Response: Oh, gosh, that wasn't your fault. It's just one of those weird things that happen sometimes. Thank YOU for your patience!
Response: I'm so glad you liked it! I really enjoy using my sizzix machine for embossing and for die cutting. But I don't get it out nearly enough.
Response: You can either PM me, or just drop a letter into the mail whenever you fee like it. No hurry. Hope you feel better soon!!
Response: A "notecard" is a flat card with space for a message. That is what I sent. And I added a "shaker" feature to the notecard. I am sorry it was not up to your expectations. I am guessing that you assumed you would receive a folded notecard in an envelope, however, neither folded nor envelope was specified in the swap description. My bad luck, since I can only go by what the swap host puts in the swap information.
Response: Oh my! That is a LONG time in transit. Thanks for your patience!
Response: The bird picture is from National Geographic. I got a 2-year subscription pretty cheap, but never read it so now I'm trying to declutter by cutting them up for postcards. I LOVE my Kindle Paperwhite cuz 1) it is LED side-lit so I can read in bed without a lamp on to keep my husband awake. I can highlight amusing phrases and mistakes and my notes, and export them to a PDF later to save in my book log. And there is on onboard dictionary to look up words. Oh, and I can check out and download book in about a minute without a trip to the library. I keep a book "wish list" so I cherry pick titles from there with great success over randomly stumbling across things at the library. I thought I'd never switch from paper books, but now I think I may never switch back!
Response: Yes - powder and heat embossing gun for tbe bird. Stuff left over from when I used to make cards. I've always liked the 3D texture of embossing. It's fun to get out the old stuff every once in a while!
Sorry about the delayed response. I'll get back to you about a letter.
Response: Rumpkin pIe. I LOVE that!!!
Response: Yes, I embossed it using a Sizzix Big Shot and an embossing folder I found on eBay. I bought the machine to make 100+ XMAS cards using a fancy folded card die cut. I also used it another year to cut 150 snowflakes out of aluminum soda cans. I try to get some use out of the machine now and then. Thanks for the nice compliments! You take care as well!
Response: I did send out a few cards last month with a mix of sniff and non-sniff stamps. I must have been in a fog cuz I marked the non-sniff cards as scratch-n-sniff and not the sniffy cards. So I DO have a history of leg-pulling. If accidental. But YOURS was the real thing. Way to go, USPS, thinking outside of the box!
Response: You are right - rhubarb stuff is a lot harder to find. In the city and older suburbs around here, pretty much everyone has a plant in their yard. There is a bakery across town which makes flaky crisps pastry folded over a rhubarb filling. I find a fair amount of jams and preserves, but I'm not a fan of toast so we have 2 or 3 jars hoarded in our cupboard (note to self: get on that - maybe I could spread a jar on a batch of sweet rolls). Oooo, for some reason, another fav just popped into my head - cassis/black currant. Also hard to find, except in Canada and the UK.
Response: Pentel Hybrid Dual Metallics. I LOVE those pens!! They sheen in two colors when you tilt it in the light.
Response: Oooo! How do you like Smithsonian? I'm thinking about getting one more magazine to fill time instead of looking at my phone so much every day.
Response: Heads up! You're gonna wanna read Let It Snow twice. There are several intertwined stories, and after you finish you're going to want to go back to see the connections you missed the first time around. That's one of the reasons it's fun to read every year.
Response: I am SO EXCITED that I finally learned how to do zippers! I like to make lined zipper pouches to keep things sorted like my charger cords and my gel pens.
Response: I never really thought about farfalle pasta much, so I was super excited when 1) it turned out to be butterflies, and 2) I actually had butterfly paper in my stash. Good luck with the exams! Keep on crack a lacking at them!
Response: It's funny how much free flying birds bother some people. I think it's delightful. Although I used to have nightmares about my birds getting loose out of the house. >shudder< Thank goodness that never happened! (And I hope that it never does!!)
Response: I think that Jiffy Bake is generic Bisquick - which is pancake/waffle/biscuit/etc mix. Just add water - no oil or eggs (usually - I only do biscuits so maybe it's different for pancakes or waffles). I like to get generics and store brand stuff whenever I can.
Response: It's one of the better cereal box backs for sure!
Response: I am totally rationing those stamps! I only got two or three sheets and now you can't get them from the post office any more and I'm kicking myself. I'm too cheap to pay more than face value on eBay to get more.
Response: Traveling with the bird is a whole big fuss with a medium size dog crate we got free on Craig's List. We actually have FOUR (all free), given how much parrots like to chew it makes sense to have backup crates. It's pleasantly surprising how many people are giving away free dog crates. It took a coupla months of pre-trip practice drives to get her used to being in the car, and then in the car in the crate. She did so much better than we feared she might! She was even great in the hotels (a huge FAIL in our practice sessions - overnight in the crate did NOT work at home).
Response: I'm so glad that you liked it! You could run a string thru it and hang it outside in the sun somewhere. Not exactly super classy, but kinda fun! And shiny!
Response: Oh, don't try to play that disc. It's covered in paint and you should not put that into your player. Could get paint all over the optical reader. It is intended to be purely decorative.
Response: Glowing coconut balls and flying bats are NEVER out of season!!
Response: Probably a good mother! These "chunks" were so old that I made them years ago, stashed them away, and only found them again last month. I really like PB Cap'n Crunch, but I don't let myself eat it very much!
Response: As far as I am concerned, Birch Beer, Root Beer, and Sarsaparilla are all pretty much the same thing. Some are spicier, some are sweeter, some have a lot of vanilla. Some Root Beers are more different from each other than Root Beer and Sarsaparilla. I love them all, and like to try any new ones that I find. I'll be so jealous if you are able to go out for a weekend drive and come home with a case of Birch Beer!! Oh, and BTW, I think that there is WHITE Birch Beer which is clear. It can also be brown, red, or blue. If you DO try to get some, be sure to try more than one if you have the option!
Response: So glad! I think it is probably more interesting than the original.
Response: Thanks! Yes - I have an embossing machine. I have been going nuts this fall buying cheap cutting dies from eBay. I thought I'd do some embossing while I had the machine out.
Response: Thanks! Happy Holidays!
Response: I'm so glad that you liked it. I'm still excited about my new white marker!
Response: It worked for her husband and two kids. YMMV!! ;)
Response: I'm so glad that you liked the Snowman postcard. I love making shaker cards, and this has been one of my favorites.
Response: Glad you liked it! Did you have doubts about keeping your typewriter? I definitely want to hear about that!!
Response: So glad to hear it! Thanks!
Response: Whew! No glittery explosions in the machinery on the way!
Response: It's so weird how long it takes the USPS to return problematic mail. I sent that at the start of Feb and didn't get it back until almost March!! Well, I'm glad that it finally got there!
I get my return address stamps on eBay from seller "holmesstamp". They have a huge selection, and reasonable prices.
Response: I'm so glad you like it. It's always a relief when a fabric postcard arrives. While I have had very good luck sending hundreds of them, I'm still always afraid that the post office will have trouble.
Response: Oh, but there was a message. You must have overlooked it.
Response: I'm so glad that you enjoyed it! I had fun writing out my answers! Happy Swapping! And now back to today's one activity: watching a hip hop dance tutorial DVD. Not DOING it, just WATCHING. But you have to start somewhere! :)
Response: Glad you liked it! And glad that you don't have to disown me cuz of my current situation. Heh.
Response: WHAT? I'm more of a Baum Wizard of Oz books person, but even I have read Harry Potter (and seen the movies)!!
Response: I have a Sizzix embossing machine. I like it more than I thought I would. This year, I die-cut more than 1000 pieces for my holiday cards. And I do cards like this for swaps. So it gets some use!
Response: I'm sorry to see that you are disappointed with the card. The black light feature was just an insignificant bonus in case you had access to a light. It's too bad that the other decorations weren't to your liking.
Response: You're not missing a whole lot if you don't find a black light. It was just a little bonus.
Response: I made my own plate.
http://sharongiles.artdfw.com/making-your-own-gelatinglycerin-plate/
I watched videos on youtube to get ideas for how to use it. Then we just winged it. It was fun!! I've only printed twice, but I left my table up in the middle of the living room so that I can do it again. I suppose I should do it, or put my stuff away, huh?
Response: It tastes very LIME. You can try it for $1.07 at Taco Bell during their happy hour 2-5pm. Or buy a more expensive bottle at a gas station. I think it's still around - but for sure it's at Taco Bell. I do NOT like regular mountain dew. AT ALL. Mountain "EEW". Heh.
Response: I've got a Sizzix Big Kick. I buy embossing folders on sale at JoAnna and on eBay. I'm really liking it. I emboss way more than I cut with it.
Response: Don't wanna be a stuff pusher, but I am liking mine. I have been buying embossing folders at joann fabric and on eBay. The machines can cut too. I'm not as into that, and the cutting dies are more expensive than the embossing folders, but I did get one cutting die that I am using to cut snowflakes out of soda cans, which I think is pretty neat! My machine is a sizzix big kick. I had to pay for a few other things to get started: a pair of cutting plates and this "book" thing with flip open "pages" to help adjust the various dies to the right height to go thru the machine. I think that's called a "multipurpose platform". And of course a bunch of embossing folders. So the startup cost is about $150. I bought my machine on eBay. Shipping was expensive, but it was still cheaper than buying new online.
Response: Okay...sounds like it arrived safey. I haven't had much trouble with the Mennonite Fold envelopes, but sometimes the post office mangles them.
Response: I'm so glad that you liked it! It's always a treat to know that I helped someone have a good mail day!
Response: Hee hee. Temporarily stalled. I realized recently that I need to set up a table to do some mass production. I had been working in smaller batches on the floor, but that's gonna kill my back. I have a table picked out, but I need to clear, um, well, LAST YEAR'S Christmas card production supplies (I guess now that I'm busted - so lazy!) off of it before I can make room for THIS YEAR'S cards. I was JUST thinking today that I need to get on that.
Response: I'm so glad that it got there safely! I have had almost no problems (knock on wood) sending fabric postcards internationally, but I do worry a little bit every time!
Response: Glad to hear that it arrived safely, and pleased that you like it!
Response: I haven't sent my cards yet! You can't possibly have gotten one from me yet. IT'S A MIRACLE!!! ;). Seriously though, I haven't mailed my cards yet for Feb.
Response: W00T!! I'm so glad to hear that it made it to Singapore safely!
Response: Sizzix embossing machine! I just got it and am having fun using it!
Response: I'm still learning how to use the pressure cooker. Last week I made red beans and rice (just the beans part) and they turned out nice and thick just like they were supposed to. Not like my last bean project which accidentally turned out to be watery soup instead of nice and thick.
Response: OMG. Really? I didn't even do anything weird this time. I don't remember putting in any enclosures...just magazine pages. Letter, and magazine pages. Did I wrap the thing in packing tape? Or did the plain old paper envelope just fail?
Response: Glad you liked it. I just got an embossing machine and I'm going a little wild embossing and cutting things. I'm really pleased with how crisp the impressions are.
Response: I'm glad that you enjoyed it. Once upon a time I made a bunch of self-mailers in order to try to burn thru some scrapbook paper I didn't think I'd ever use. I like using the folds to break the letter up into smaller chunks. I think it's easier to read, and it's kinda fun to do. Type type type turn. Type type type turn.
Response: One of the classes I took was for making light-sensitive polymer plates for printing. You make a transparency with your image drawn or printed on it, then expose the "raw" polymer plate to UV light thru your image. Everything not protected by the drawing gets soft and you wash it away in a scrubber. Then you "bake" the plate to make it hard and you can print with it. The jellyfish came in a set of images I bought at Barnes & Noble (did you know that you can buy clip
art collections? I did not!). I drew the zentangle. The swap card is a combo of type and polymer plate.
Response: Yaaay! So glad you liked it! (yes, Pilot Parallel - I need to use mine more)
Response: My postcard to you is sitting in the office mail room in Minnesota, USA. They're fast, but I KNOW they're not THAT fast! :) Did you rate me by accident?
Response: I got that postcard stamp in a lot of used rubber stamps from eBay yeeeaaaarrrrs ago. I have no idea which company made it or if it's still available. It is a good one, isn't it? There are probably others (maybe not this exact one, but retro-looking things) available if you google a bit.
Response: I'm so glad it got there. Usually I don't worry about ratings (since they're not required, I don't like to hound people for them), but I feel better knowing that the naked mail arrived.
Response: I'm not a big follower of illustrators, but I do love Shaun Tan. I saw his Oscar-nominated animated short a few years ago, and now I own a bumch of his books.
Response: I'm so glad you like it! I only have about 20 of those envelopes, and I'm being very stingy about using them. It's great to know that it made an impression!
Response: Oh crud, I don't remember a thing about a lost carpenter. PM me a hint. (I love those stamps - I bought a whole sheet on eBay and parcel them out only to very special recipients - so glad you noticed!)
Response: Heh. I didn't put the two together: googly eyes and contact solution. I'm a poet, and I didn't even knowit!
Response: I love love love love to use Scotch Brand Quick-Dry Adhesive. No-run formula. Mess-free, precision tip. Photo Safe. It's just white glue that dries clear, and I've had really good luck with it holding (I tried some clear Tombow on old stamps this winter and every single one of them fell off - SO BAD). They USED to have a better, finer, tip. I don't like the new tip - precision, snort, not so much - so I bought my own tips on eBay and got luckily they fit.
Response: I have finished all of the Lincoln Lawyers, so went back to Harry Bosch. I've read two, I think, so I must have picked up #3 and #4 now.
Response: I'm so glad you like it! I JUST threw out the envelope the tape came in cuz it's been quite a while and it was getting pretty ragged. I moved my tape into a ziplock. But I was able to find it at the top of my recycle can: http://www.wishywashi.com/
Response: Oh, I'm glad! Then you can answer questions and stuff. Too bad the whole last bit is throw-away what with the "we already booked it and worked THAT out" before you even got the letter...
Response: You can make it without a sewing machine. Pretty much need an iron, tho. And if you don't sew the edges, you probably want to use pinking scissors to finish the edges or sew them by hand so it doesn't peel apart. Ooooooor, you could find something thick, like a rubber hot water bottle. Oh, gosh, just make one out of leather like the original. All you need is a craft knife and a hole punch then! The nice thing is that you can make any size you want. Be sure to look at videos of how people have filled their books. Talk about a big time suck!!
Response: It's always a relief to hear that weird naked mail arrived safely. I just blew an entire weekend watching videos on how people are using their midori/faux-dori/other planners. Man, there is a lot of stuff you can stick in there. Glad you like it. One thing: your profile says that you are into fabric journals - I'd love to hear about that.
Response: It IS delicious!
Response: Oooh, they're so good. If I didn't mention both, root beer and diet orange crush both work!
Response: Oh, tell me about it! I am resisting mostly successfully (that box is actually pretty old). But I would cave in a heartbeat if I saw a Mickey's Banana Flip!
Response: Lemme know which story was interesting, and I'll be sure to tell you more about it!
Response: Errr, I already forgot about that one. I think I did start scanning all of my letters to you so I may have to check that. Hopefully it won't make me want to crawl into a hole and hide. And YOUR drunken letter was hilarious.
Response: Whew! I was nervous that either the USPS or the Canadian post was gonna pitch a FIT about the cloth bag envelope. You should reuse it - that was the plan (not for mail, but for whatever you need to put in a bag).
Response: Oh, duh. That's a good idea. Watch your mailbox.
Response: Just minutes ago I put in a new toner cartridge and everything is spiffy! I probably sent your card before I put in the first reflll and it was defective, so I actually had to replace it twice before I was up and running again.
Response: More for me! ;)
Response: Took me a minute to remember what I sent. I believe that all of my cards this round were vintage USPS pre-paid postcards. I bought a few different lots of assorted cards on eBay. USPS sells new versions with the right amount of postage. You have to add extra stamps to the vintage cards to get them up to current postal rates. FYI - they make pre-paid envelopes too and you can find vintage versions on eBay.
Response: I just ate the last of a box of Sugar Cookie pop tarts. I only buy them when I see tempting seasonal flavors, and usually I'm disappointed. But the pumpkin and now the Sugar Cookie were both better than usual.
Response: I'm so glad you liked it! I had a lot of fun making the JFK stamp. It inspired me to make a whole set of presidential artistamps. The others are all Saturday Night Live actors impersonating presidents. I made the set into a stamp booklet like you might get from the USPS.
Response: So glad you liked it. The library is like a candy store: so many tasty things, and ever better it's all free free freeeee!!
Response: So glad you enjoyed it. I hope next week is better!
Response: Well, keep at it. You're already way ahead of me just for trying!
Response: I DID make that! I stood on a chair with one hand on the ceiling and one hand on my camera leeeeaning over to try to get directy above it to get a square-on picture of my quilt on the floor. I was a bit shocked that it turned out! It was one of the first VistaPrint cards I ever made. Those fabrics are fairly representative of my obnoxiously bright fabric stash!
Response: Yeah, I liked it to so I figured it was worth a try. I believe you're talking about the one they sent back to me for being two small. I RECEIVED two cards from the same era that weren't any bigger. Go figure!
Response: I'm so glad that it arrived intact! I stayed up late twice to finish the book. It was hard to put down. It may be time for me to catch up on some of his books that I've missed.
Response: About ten years ago now (yikes, has it been that long??!!??!!) I declared the Year Of The Purge. I made a little progress. But, man, I'm fighting an uphill battle! It IS nice to get rid of things, and like you say, it feels like I actually have more cuz I know what's there and I can see it and I've gotten rid of the distracting things I don't (and won't ever) use!
Response: Oh, I'm so glad! I never register mail or take pictures of it, but after I dropped the re-send in the box I worried that if another one got lost I had no way to show that I'm not a horrible flaker! The more I think about, the more convinced I am that I sent the first one in a cereal box envelope and that the mail system just didn't like it!
Response: I got a letter from you! thanks!
Response: Glad you enjoyed it! I cleaned out a scaree corner of our family room, and found a stash of stamps that a friend sent me. I got to use them, they are no longer part of the clutter. Score!!!
Response: Did you get the all white plain one? I have no idea what it was from. Probably backing for a stationery set or some other flimsy paper thing.
Response: Hmmm. It kinda turned out. Kinda. We kicked it back and forth on the porch for 1/2 hour or so. It froze HARD to the sides, and it was TOUGH to get that out. But the middle was still fairly mushy. I stirred in the rhubarb sauce. Didn't get lovely streaks, more like a rhubarb shake (it mixed in too well - I have no idea how you'd ever get lovely stripes of "flavor"). Then I froze it harder. It was DELICIOUS. I put a kitchen aid mixer ice cream attachment on my Christmas list. I dunno if I'll ever have enough room in our freezer. But I am kind of on a mission to clear out some space. No point in keeping mummified food in there til doomsday. Especially when I could use the space for an ice cream maker instead!
Response: I love my typewriters. I do have a few that I don't like, tho, so they aren't all the same. I love my portable Olympias. They are fairly large, but the touch it wonderful. The Hermes Rocket feels rickety to me. Full sized machines may be more generally acceptable than portables since they are probably all more substantial. Good luck and enjoy if you decide to get one!
Response: Whew! So glad the postage was enough.
Response: I got the crayon at Dick Blick. It is one big fat plastic tube, with a rotating cartridge of different color crayons inside. You spin a dial to line up the color you want, then push a lever to poke the crayon out the writing end. I couldn't resist it, but never got around to using it until the June swap.
Response: Oooo! Antarctica would be an excellent trip!!!
Response: Oh, don't give it another thought. It's nice if people leave a rating, but it's not something I wait for (I just hope people will let me know if they don't get my swap).
Response: Glad you like it. I'm not much of a tea drinker, so the tea was mostly for me to make sure that it fit. You'll have to put in your own tea!
Response: Yeah, sorry about the old lady health woes whining. But hopefully the modern twist of sarcasm and black humor bought me a save. I have a rule that you're not allowed to talk about ANY health issue with someone more than 10 years different in age. So at least I'm following my own rules.
Response: Man, are you a fast rater! I just put that letter into the mail!
Response: They were goooood. If you see them next year, definitely snap up a box or two!
Response: That's too bad. You might consider putting a note in your profile if there's something people can do to make it easier for you.
Response: I would HIGHLY recommend an Olympia SM9 Cursive machine. Manual (non-electric), built like a tank, with a dreamy hefty no-nonsense touch. Fairly big for a "portable" - I wouldn't carry one around on the bus, but small enough to stow under my desk or in a clost. I loooved my Selectric, but it was truly huge - a behemoth, and the SM9 feels as substantial without the annoying electric hum and a much more reasonable size. Reviewers ding it for being too plain, but I love that it's very utilitarian. Sorry to natter on about it, but I love love love that typewriter.
Response: yeah, I love the tree face too! Glad you enjoyed the card.
Response: So glad you liked it!
Response: Glad you enjoyed it! I'm so jealous of your profile list of favorite things. Man, what a great list!
Response: Banana pudding....I can't tell you how much I love all things banana. Cream pie. Pudding. Popsicles. Malts (real bananas or syrup). Banana bread (no chocolate in it, please). Banana granola. Banana taffy. I have banana lotion. I have banana shampoo. I have banana (flambe) perfume. I. Love. Bananas.
Response: It's 105 now. I broke my own record. I have a whole month and then some to set the new record even higher. Don't tell anyone (in case I don't make it), but I'm hoping to hit 120: 10 per month average.
Response: I love bug eating fuzzy bats, but I'll never touch one in the wild! There was a huge story on public radio this summer about a girl who got bitten by an injured bat she was trying to help. She developed full-blown rabies. The doctors her put into an experimental coma to minimize brain damage and she survived. I saw a related article about some people (in South America?) who they think may have natural resistance/immunity to rabies thru repeated expose from biting bats. Yikes! I left my cute little buddy undisturbed in my eaves.
Response: In the return address label, Harrison Ford (as Deckard in the move Blade Runner) is checking for missing teeth after getting beat up.
Response: Yeeeeaaaaah, after reading a couple myself, I think I'd make my next one less twirly and aim more for wavy. Thanks for the heart!
Response: They give good cardboard!
Response: I hate their frosting. I don't mind (as much, but they're still not GOOD) fruit "pop tarts" (generic or brand name) with no frosting. But they're nearly impossible to find.
Response: Glad you liked it! I like the angry gnarly tree, and the cider's pretty good too! I had some on tap at a bar last night. I'm hoping it'll be popular cuz itll be easier to get.
Embossing: I think finer ground powders make cleaner impressions. I have a lot, but tend to use the ones that work better.
Response: I can't remember if you guys angry orchard or the Irish cider. My current favorite is Crispin, but I like the Angry Orchard.
Response: We were across the causeway in a public park (Space View Park, but still, a fair distance from the launch pad), so it was a little like watching a teeny tiny Tinkerbell firefly rise up into the sky. Even so, it was majestic and it was hard not to cry as you watched it (I am NOT a cryer, but those are PEOPLE going into SPACE in that little bug). I'm so glad I made the effort to go down to watch it. It was fun to hang out with my dad, and it's nice to know that he got to see it too. It was the day before his birthday. Kewl all around.
Response: Don't worry a second about taking your time to rate. I'm a notoriously late rater, and I never ever check to see if I received a rating (but I do expect people to let me know if they didn't receive anything). Glad you enjoyed the letter. Your "wholly epic summer" sounds grand, but is kind of a tease since I have no idea what you're doing!
Response: Glad you liked it! It was my first time trying something like that, so I wasn't sure how it would turn out.
Response: Gesso, collagey-bits, and water-color pencil. It was my first time ever using gesso, so I was a bit nervous. I got the idea from the book 'Journal Spilling', cuz I really like the look of her pages. So far, I'm encouraged. I may not be arty, but this was a reasonable facsimile.
Response: I felt ambitious this month!
Response: I love embossing!
Response: Glad you liked it! :)
Response: That was an unlabeled bonus. Cut a stack of tiny paper, staple in where the "matches" would go.
Response: I've been MAKING books with cereal box covers and junk mail envie insides. But I am STILL too scared to try using one. I need to start an envelope of clippings and notes that I want to save, and then start gluing them into one of my books.
Response: Glad you liked it. I love making these books, but I'm still getting over how weird it is to have envelope "paper" with its security prints and windows. I keep making them cuz I'm still to afraid to try to use them!
Response: It doesn't feel too lucky this weekend since I still have to rake and then mow and then weed-kill (evil creepying charlie took over). Gah! I hope it keeps raining so I can put it off a little longer!
Response: So glad you liked it! I need to get motivated to get back to those baby quilts. Grrr. It's always something!!
Response: You are SO not a dullard! I made sure I raised up my game to keep pace with your amazing profile!! Don't wait to get a new ribbon - drop me a note sometime in ballpoint or crayon or pointy charred stick!!
Response: Yea! So glad it got there safely. The other one is going to the Netherlands, so I'm hoping it doesn't run into trouble.
Response: FAIL! But I'm still trying...
Response: Oh, that album is really good. You should try it!
Response: Fine Arts Degree = BIG. FAT. LIE. I am an artistic doofus!! 104 movies in a year is my personal record. It helped that one of the theaters I liked ran a few series of really old movies. That got me going fairly regularly on weeknights which helped jack up my numbers.
Response: I'm so glad! Keep signing up!
Response: Hahahaha! One of the three cards that I sent out got returned because I forgot to address it. I figured maybe I was in a haze, so I resent all three even though only one came back. You can expect to receive a "bonus" card sometime soon!
Response: Glad you liked it. I finally followed my own suggestion and made a set of bigger cards. It's good to hear that it made the trip - 44 cent postage is still the best bargain going!
Response: Use it! Use it! Use it! I looooove my embossing powder. I think the little bit of 3D texture and the rich colors are my fav parts. I've slacked off on stamping - and card making in general. But I still like to get out my embossing powder and these swaps are the perfect excuse.
Response: I'm glad that you liked the stamp. No worries about a reply. I'm hopelessly behind myself. You'll get to it when (and if) you get to it.
Response: All of the fountain pen inks that I know of are water-based. None of them would cover waxy pencil. Some fountain pen inks are waterproof, some of the Noodler's brand inks are "bulletproof": waterproof, UV proof, bleach proof, acetone proof. However, even the waterproof and "bulletproof" inks may streak and run when wet. The writing should remain visible and legible, but the color may change as some non-permanent components wash away.
Response: Take your time. No pressure at all from me. I have a HUGE pile of letters I need to answer myself, so I totally relate!
Response: I got that stamp as part of a lot of mail-themed stamps. It's been one of my favorites. Glad you like it!
Response: Wow. I put this in the mail this morning! Thanks for the super fast rating!
Response: Great guess - you're right! Although they DO make a lifetime pen: http://www.cyberspacepens.com/pens/Fisher-Space-Pens/Lifetime-Pens.html
Bangkok was fun, and I love that quilt. I made it as a present, but them gave away another one instead because I liked it too much.
Response: Did I ever respond? Check out mppclub.org, and Bill Porter at http://www.theolatheposte.com/
Response: Thanks for the super speedy rating and for understanding about the spam eater. I'm so glad that you enjoyed the videos. Music is such a personal taste, it's hard to know if someone else will appreciate what you might hear in something.
Response: Was that the space shuttle PC? At the time, it was SUPPOSED to be the last launch of Atlantis. Today NASA made a liar out of me. Too late to change the PCs!!
Response: I sent this. I marked it sent on time. I have feedback from my other partner who got BCCd on the EXACT SAME EMAIL for this swap, so clearly I sent SOMETHING. I have no idea what happened to your email - check your SPAM filter. You never contacted me to report a problem other than leaving this this rating. You are rude, hostile, and your accusations are not supported by the facts. If you can re-post your comments in a more civil tone, I will re-send an email for this swap.
Response: Sorry! We are more accidental vegetarians - not big meat eaters. But I loooooove cheese. I do use some vegan recipes from "Simple Heavenly", tho.
Response: No problem. Glad you enjoyed the letter!
Response: Yep, those are my parakeets. They're very suspicious of new food, so I was really shocked to come home and find that they had made such a mess out of that strawberry.
Response: haha. A few people have been confused by "substance" and "quality", like you have to write something profound. I've just gotten so many "letters" which don't amount to much more than a postcard, that I wanted to make it clear that this is a L.E.T.T.E.R. If you don't want to WRITE something, then p'raps it's a good time to consider whether a "letters and writing" swap is really a place you want to go!
Response: The instructions say "dreams"!!! I dunno if this would ever turn into "plans", but it won't if I stop dreaming about it!
Response: Oh, man, yeah. Birds rob you blind if you have a strawberry patch. Both robins and bluejays eat berries. Others probably do too. And pet birds.
Response: Glad you enjoyed it. I filled out the questionnaire as soon as I registered for the swap so it was easy to get it out the door fast!
Response: I'm so glad you liked it! I showed it to my husband without warning and he laughed so hard he nearly choked. Thanks for seeing the humor beyond my terrible lack of drawing skills!
Response: I sent a cardboard chunk cut from a beloved and irreplaceable long discontinued product package for a non-profile, "Letters and Writing" flat-mail postcard swap. I shall let Ms @evieroz' comment speak to her manners.
UPDATE: since my first response, I have received PMs from others who have received very unkind remarks from Ms. @evieroz as well. It seems that kindness and discretion are not among her finer attributes.
Response: I'm glad to hear that you like the fish! I was nervous about how it would turn out being my first try.
Response: Whew! I can stop holding my breath now that I know it arrived. So glad that you like it. It was my first "flower" bowl (I've made other shapes).
Response: Glad it got to you so quickly after 2nd mailing! And I'm very glad you like it! My mother in law gave me bunch of old birdseed bag. I've been making all kinds of things out of them. But beware - postage doesn't stick well to them ;)
Response: I don't know the official name, but that sounds about right. Packing tape to right side of image. Immerse in water for a coupla minutes. Rub paper off the back. Rinse. Stick to an old-school transparency sheet. It's a miracle that the front and back stay stuck together cuz the tape isn't sticky anymore!
Response: Yea! So glad he got there safely!
Response: Our third kid was too scared to come to the door - SCORE! It was a light year. Dunno where all the kiddies were!
Response: Yeah, that's me. After quitting my job a few years ago, I decided to have some fun with my hair.
Response: You don't need a black light for the stamp book - no hidden surprises for you. I originally made the stamps to put on mail that I did write on with black light ink, so my friends would know to get out their light. Tanglecraft got me into making books. Since the stamps were already made I was halfway to a book so that was the second one I ever did.
Response: I can't put dear hubby in The Ex Files!!!!
Response: I think I said this, but it's photo-polymer. You have to make some kind of negative with your image(s) on it. You lay the negative over your photo-sensitive polymer, then expose it to UV light. The exposed bits get hard, but the parts shielded by the black part of your negative stay soft. You wash out the soft bits with water and a brush. Then you dry the plate, and put it back under UV light to harden the whole thing. Viola - you have a printing plate. There is a book-making/printing shop here where I rent time on both the platemaker machine which does all the exposing and washing for me. It's like a 3-story easy-bake oven - washing on top, then a compartment with the UV light, and a dryer compartment on the bottom. I don't know if you can get equipment of your own for a reasonable price or not.
Response: It's an old pic. I quit my job many years ago and took some time off to goof around. I bleached my hair and cut it super short. I laugh every time I see that picture!
Response: I'm so glad that you liked it. It's a fun design, so I keep trying new combinations of colors and shapes.
Response: Hahaha. I did NOT put anything in the package other than gum, recipes, and my note. I did re-used the envelope, tho. I'm wracking my brains trying to figure out what might have been in there from whoever sent it to me.
Response: Well, it was a lot of fun putting it together. I'm thrilled that it hit the mark!
Response: Check out mppclub.org They've got really good instructions for how to get your own postmark. So glad you liked the ATC tear out. I loved the idea but wasn't sure how it would play out in practice! I got a Excel pounce wheel to do the perforations. It cost under $10 online.
Response: I'm so glad you enjoyed the card! It was a thrilling thing for us to see. It's so cool that you saw a shuttle on the 747. That would have been sight!
Response: I'm glad you liked it! My first attempt, the postal service did not contribute much artistically, so I added the zentangle this time to make sure it arrived with more than a stamp and a cancel!
Response: I've got a pile I've been saving, but I haven't thought of a fun selvedge project. Got any suggestions?
Response: No worries about the timing of your rating. I'm glad to hear that it got there safely, and glad that you like it!
Response: I left the weathered art completely naked, as per the swap requirements: "At the end of a week, bring your art in, let it dry if it needs to, then write the addresses on the back of the actual art itself and mail them naked to your partners." I also paid the USPS non-machinable charge for items which do not play nice with postal machines. Half the fun of sending unusual mail is the special plastic bag and note from the USPS. ;)
Response: I'm so glad that you liked my stamps! It was a lot of fun to make them. I had a coupla stamps made (Ford, Nixon, Reagan) which I like to use next to the "real" stamps of the same name (I bought a whole sheet of Nixon on eBay for just over the face value). This swap inspired me to expand my collection and put them into a book.
Response: Yea! I'm so glad you like them! They are super funny if you can find the real Reagan, Nixon, or Ford stamps on ebay and use them alongside the fake ones. I bought a sheet of 50 Nixon stamps for face value, and need to stock up on Ford and Reagan.
I got a pizza wheel thingy with a pointy star for a wheel from a site that's no longer around. I googled the brand name from the handle, and found the same thing (Excel Pounce Wheel) here and at Dick Blick online: http://www.in2art.com/art-supplies/excel-pounce-wheels
The glue is "Lick & Stick Remoistenable Envelope Glue" by Green Sneakers. I've seen it in stores, and it looks pretty easy to find online.
Response: Me too! I got a great set with squash, beans, and corn which are supposed to all help each other grow better. Sounds really intriguing, but I need to find a spot to plant them!
Response: I'm so glad you liked it! I had a few of the stamps made already, but made more so I could complete a book for an upcoming swap. It was so much fun that I made a bunch and am slipping them into other swaps.
Response: That is part of my real plan should I ever win. I think I need to work on the wording, tho!!!
Response: I'm so glad that a) it got there and b) you liked it!
Response: I just started doing Zentangles, so I'm still in the "excited can't do enuff of em" phase.
Response: I have extras, and all the swappy balls coming. I need to figure out what to do with them now. AAAAAAAAH! That's gonna be a lot of balls!!!!
Response: Happy to hear it!
Response: I'm so glad it got there, and that you enjoyed it! I love that you can mail weird stuff.
Response: Well, at least now I know I wasn't losing my mind!
Response: Yep, I love making fabric postcards. Glad you liked the K notes!
Response: It was a private dial-up system, but there were a lot of people logging in to use an old "chat" type system.
Response: I love using cut up old boxes as postcards. I don't remember which one was potatoes. It's not french fries cuz I've never gotten them in a box. I'm guessing it was potato chips.
Response: I'm so happy that you enjoyed it!
Response: Scaree! And what a mess it caused you.
Response: I'm so glad that you liked it. My Zine and more swap package is on the way to you. I hope you like it. I loved your Faux Postage packet!
Response: Fabic postcards are a lot of fun. Maybe if you make one for your granddaughter you'll get hooked on them!
Response: Thanks! I'm kind of a quilting hack, so I was shocked that it turned out.
Response: Thanks! I am really happy with the way Kennedy and the SNL stamps turned out.
Response: I'm so glad you liked it. I love postoids, including silly big fabric ones.
Response: Yeah, after 25 years I upgraded to my first electronic machine just so I could get the fancy stitches and letters.
I'm a total hack when it comes to sewing, so you just just give it a try. You can get a decent machine for under $100. Take a look at the Janomes, if you're interested. You might be able to pick up a used one for nearly free and pay $50 to get a good tuneup.
Response: Thanks for playing! I'm still new to hosting swaps, so I'm glad it went well for you.
Response: Whew, thanks for tracking it down.
Response: Whew! Glad you liked the googly eyes. I think that they are hilarious, but I'm always afraid that I'm the only one who thinks they're funny. I found a good deal on them and stocked up so I like to throw them on things.
Response: Oh, I'm so glad! I've had that photo for years but could never figure out, until now, how to use it. I nearly screamed when I came home and saw those little guys cuz I thought there had been a terrible accident. Good thing it was just strawberry carnage!
Response: It was about making a holiday card, with pictures and text explaining the process. Does that ring any bells?
Response: Haha. Yes, you are correct. I think that I did identify the quote on my other two PCs. I was too busy moaning about getting hooked on those books this late in the game. New Moon kinda did it for me - the movie, that is. That darn sweet werewolf kid. Gah.
Response: I'm so glad you like it! I was in a rush and didn't make one for myself, so now I'm jealous!
Response: I liked the recipe part, too! It was an unexpected surprise.
Response: Thanks for being so kind. Man, I swear I am still having nightmares about how to decorate that can, and it will probably always haunt me. On the upside, I feel better about the journaling prompts inside the can and that's (hopefully) the more important part! :)
Response: Aaaah! You're making me blush! But I'm really glad that you liked it.
Response: Heh. It was a crazy week. I had made the 20 questions well ahead of time, and I was too rushed when the participant list came out and, whoops!, forgot to include my ID. Thanks for doing the math to figure out it was me!
Response: Oh, my. Now that you mention it, I bet that I did forget to put my name/id on my 20 questions letter. Whoops!
Response: Oh, I am so glad that you liked them! They were a lot of fun to make. Thanks for your enthusiastic response.
Response: Glad you liked the card! I got the PC stamp as part of a lot of used stamps on eBay. I think that stampfrancisco might have one like it.
Response: I'm so glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for the nice message!
Response: Oh, nice! I've only heard a coupla canaries, but they do have a lovely song.
