So my boyfriend is kind of a genius apparently. I don't know if anyone else thinks this is a neat idea or what, but I thought it was great considering 1. I love handmade postcards 2. I love handmade bookmarks, and 3 I am cheap and like minimal postage!

So here is the general idea.

Take cardstock/thin cardboard/old or ugly postcard etc, decorate the front with drawings/paintings/collage

Write a nice little note with quotes or a joke or something pleasant.

Outline two (or three depending on the size you choose) bookmark shapes lightly over where you wrote.

Send to your partner naked.

Receive postcard, read note, admire the craftiness.

Cut out the outline. (Punch hole/add ribbon if that's what you like)

ENJOY!

So that's the basic idea I hope other people like the concept because I think it's really kind of creative and different.

This will be international because it's inexpensive. You will have three partners. One postcard to each. Newbies are allowed with a filled out profile. Anyone else may join, however, if you have a poor rating, please email me so I can make sure you'll take things seriously!

Fun fun fun!

Okay, I love this idea, but I want to make sure I have it clear. So the bookmark you're sending will be a piece of postcard, and you write your partner's address on the blank side along with a note and mail it as is? If it has a tassle or a top or something will it go through the mail okay if it's not in an envelope?

I think the idea is to make a postcard to send. When your partner receives the postcard, they will cut it into bookmarks and put a ribbon/tassle in it, if they want.

Something like this? (but better designed)

You could punch a hole and add a bit of ribbon if you wrap it in a little plastic and tape it down in the cut-away scrap area so it doesn't get caught in the postal machines. If you leave it hanging they might charge more for handling.

I like this idea!

I think the idea was for the sender to send a postcard with two bookmark outlines on it... It is then up to the receiver to cut them out and add the tassle.

Yeah, my idea was what panda said, however, since there are so many creative ideas I think we can leave it up to interpretations if you'd like. Essentially my thought was to make a homemade postcard with a neat design on the front. Write a note on the back and then lightly draw the outlines of bookmark shapes over your note. Once the partner received it they would cut out the shapes, and add tassles if they wanted. But the other ideas are good too!

Great idea, I'm in! (I love making bookmarks!)

I did an ATC swap like this - only mine went overseas so I didn't save any on postage! But the design challenge was fun. I think this makes for a fun challenge, too.

I really enjoyed making these -- I hope to see more swaps in this vein!
