About Me

I have a gorgeous 1-year-old son. I spend most of my days with him. He is such a charmer! He is a shameless flirt. He's got these beautiful brown eyes and gorgeous dimples! I could go on and on...

I have a year left before I finish my degree. Four years? Yeah, right! Me, I'm on my sixth, seventh year. Lost count. Anyway, I'm really close to finishing up my bachelor's in history and a teaching degree.

I am starting up a polymer clay business with my mom. It's still in the infancy stage, though. I've been in other swaps before, through the Polymer Clay Central website. I got addicted and one of my swapmates suggested this website.

I love science fiction. I am a huge Star Wars nut. I also love to read. I am always up for trying new things, seeing what's out there, other people's interests. If you send me something that you like, who knows, maybe it will become one of my favorite things.

I also like things from other countries. It's cool to get to know another culture and that's something I definitely want my son to know.

I'm a cat person. I have three: 2 blacks and a tabby. I'm not much of a dog person, though.

Favorite Music

Hmmmm...well, I like all sorts of music. I especially like hearing way-out-there, not on a big label artists. Ethnic artists are loads of fun too! My father is a muscian and a music professor. My earliest memories are of walking through the halls of UW-Milwaukee to my dad's music classes.

Currently, I am in to alternative rock. But I want to introduce my son to all sorts of music.

Favorite Books

Oh lord!!! I LOVE to read. Right now I am on a sci-fi kick but, again, I love being introduced to new authors.

Favorite Television

Psych, Monk, Magnum PI, The Closer, Babylon 5, Ghost Hunters, UFO shows, Disaster shows, natural weather shows. I am a fact freak so the Discovery Channel rocks!! Mythbusters is so cool. Oh, and I love cartoons. Scooby Doo, Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, and anime.

There is one thing I absolutely don't like. The CSI, true crimes shows. It's more a personal thing then the shows suck because I don't think that's it. I just can't watch shows where women are brutalized and murdered and such. I'm going to include movies here too. I don't like sappy romances or movies where the two lovers don't get together, i.e City of Angels, Message in a Bottle. I love comedies, romantic comedies, sci-fi, action/adventure.

Favorite Crafts

Well, I love art. I like to draw, to create. I can sew a really awesome scarf, the likes of which you have never seen. But, my biggest craft thing right now is polymer clay. I also want to do some fabric work. Blankets and scarves. I like to use fleece, cotton, flannel, basically something warm for a scarf or heavier for a blanket. Nothing printed, just plain because I stitch designs on them.

Food Allergies

I have a lot of food allergies so I probably won't sign up for too many swaps of food exchanging. But if I do sign up for a recipe swap, I am really good at substituting. My allergies are wheat, dairy, peanuts, spearmint, olive oil, and green tea. My son has allergies too so if I sign up for something to do with children, no polyester clothing!

I love recipes. Seeing what other people like. I like trying new food too. So, whatever recipes you send me, don't worry about making sure my allergies are not in them. I am a pro at substituting. The only things I can't substitute are yogurt and cheese. There are no good brands that make fake yogurt and fake cheese.

If I sign up for a swap that includes candy or something of that sort, my boyfriend has a HUGE sweet tooth so whatever I won't be able to eat, he will!!

Heritage

I love my heritage! I have 13+ different ethnicities in me. My son has even more!! They are all over, Europe, Asia, Africa, the Americas. So if I'm in an international swap, I would love to know about your country!

Likes

I love elegant, simple things. Then again, when it comes to jewelry, I love the ones that pop out at you. However, as much as I love earrings and necklaces (I don't wear too many bracelets), I only wear them at work. Otherwise my son would rip them off.

I love the Orient. The simplicity, the complexity, the mixture intrigues me.

I'm into dragons, fairies, but no unicorns.

I love history, especially new takes on it.

I am a single mother. I would love anything that is a mother and son. I have a moose mom and son reading and that's all so far.

Anything with my son's or my name. So...either Alaina or Gabriel. I've never found anything with my name on it but I can still hope and dream!

Stationary. I am a letter writer and I have lots and lots of relatives to write to.

Dislikes

I know this is going to sound wierd, but I don't like cheesy crafts. The ones that look like they were just slapped together. I'm not much on country styles.

No Pink! I'm not a girly girl. Never have been.

Nothing Patriotic. Nothing political.
