I am a HUGE cat lover. My indoor kitties are Earl (gray shorthair) and Blackberry (black with yellow-green eyes) -- they are both rescue kitties and I love them to bits!
I teach plant biology at a university in South Carolina. My hobbies include travel, reading, gardening, knitting, sewing, cross stitch and papercrafts.
I have been lucky enough to visit many wonderful places: Europe, Kenya, Mexico, and others. But there are so many more places I would love to see!
This summer, my husband and I are planning to hike from one side of England to the other along Hadrian's Wall - that's been a dream of mine for a long time.
I believe that tolerance and kindness are the most important virtues. The world is an endlessly amazing place because of diversity in all its forms.
Lord of the Rings and Chronicles of Narnia
Mysteries of all kinds - especially historical
Anything by: Hilary Mantel, Deborah Crombie, Kate Morton, Ruth Rendell, Jane Austen, Peter Ackroyd, P.D. James, Dostoyevsky, Barbara Pym, Charles Dickens
University Challenge, documentaries, Have I got News for You, Parks and Recreation, Call the Midwife, Sherlock, Lewis, Dr. Who, Star Trek TNG and Voyager
Papercrafts - I like making cards best, but I also scrapbook when I remember to take some photos!
My scrapbooks and cards are usually either (1) really clean and simple or (2) old-fashioned and collage-y. I recently started a smash book with lots of washi tape and office-themed papers - that's been fun too.
Sewing - right now I am on a quest to develop the perfect pants pattern that actually fits me.
Knitting - I'm learning to knit two socks on one needle.
Postcards from around the world and items that reflect different cultures
Anything handmade - I love to see my friends' creativity!
Cats, squirrels, rabbits, cute animals of all kinds
Anything with a plant, flower or botanical theme
Geek stuff: DNA, computers, math, biochemistry
Rubber stamps,scrap paper, rub-ons and non-kitschy stickers
Japanese kawaii, crafts and sewing books
Washi tape
Cute office supplies
Almost any color except orange (which is embarrassing, since that's our school color)
Medieval and Renaissance time periods
Old ephemera like stamps, postcards, etc
Cross stitch floss and knitting yarn, especially hand-painted
Coffee and tea - all kinds - I am not picky and I need my caffeine!
Anything that smells pretty: soap, lotion, lip balm, you name it
Chocolate: all kinds but white and milk chocolate are my favorites! Oh, and salted chocolate and that chocolate with the bacon bits in it - yum!!
Gothic, fantasy or dark stuff
Kids, school and baby stuff
Branded things like Disney or Pokemon
Dollar store merchandise

I love the photos of your kitties! :)
Hello! You have some great resolutions for this year, and I wish you all my luck in achieving them! I think I may need to add the 10 minutes of housecleaning to my list! I think it's a great idea to keep tidy, yet not overwhelm yourself. Same with the 15 minutes of writing a day. It seems easy to do, but don't give up when you're feeling tired or lack the motivation! Push yourself to do it everday and you will enter 2014 feeling great about yourself and your accomplishments. Keep a positive mind frame and never give up!
Have a GREAT new year!!

Hello!!
You have such awesome and achievable resolutions! Go you! You will have a clean house, some excellent writing, and no debt in no time, I know it :)
Here's to an amazing year,
Alex
As we enter the New Year of 2013 I hope you are able to work on your resolutions and achieve them by 2014. It's easier to remember them when they are in list form and you see it often (I put mine in my planner so I can see it daily). It'll remind you about it and give you that little push to work on them as well. I know it's not easy, but a little bit will go along way. The first step is a start, its the journey after those that will determine where you'll go :)
