About Me

I am often filled with wonder about the world around me: such as the early morning mist rising in the valleys; or the grain growing in the fields; but as well the geometries of a Gothic cathedral, the fresh water from the tap, or the beauty of a mathematical equation. Thus, I love reading popular science books, "So that I may perceive whatever holds // The world together in its inmost folds."

On Letter Writing

Writing is a way of telling stories, exchanging ideas, perceptions, insights – a lovely way of having a dialogue. And, with some luck, one not only meets interesting people, but even gets to know some friends.

And, interesting stamps are like little postcards on an envelop, like greetings from a distant land.

Favorite Postcards

are those from foreign lands and distant shores, which makes me yearn to travel once again. Interesting stamps are a lovely add-on.

Favorite Books

oh, where to begin?

  • Navid Kermani´s "Along the Trenches, A Journey through Eastern Europe to Isfahan"
  • Tim Birkhead´s "The Most Perfect Thing: Inside (and Outside) a Bird´s Egg"
  • Johnjoe McFadden´s "Life on the Edge: The Coming of Age of Quantum Biology"
  • Jan Zalasiewic´s "The Planet in a Pebble: A journey into Earth´s deep history"
  • Matthew Walter´s "Why We Sleep: The New Science of Sleep and Dreams"

  • Menno Schilthuizen´s "Darwin Comes to Town: How the Urban Jungle Drives Evolution"

Comment: I can't believe some buildings in Passau still have cannonballs stuck in them. It's still odd for me to imagine because nothing in this country dates back further than 1620. Thank you for the postcards and history.

Comment: Thank you for the great postcard from Seoul. It is probably my first one from this city so it is very exciting to have it. I love to get new cities that are out of the USA.

Comment: Thank you for your letter, it was very fast! Your handwriting is beautiful! The topic of the book you addressed is really interesting but I’m afraid I wouldn’t be able to read such a book, I applaud you for doing that :D best wishes from the Netherlands

Comment: LOL!! Markus!! What a great PC!! The castles would not look as impressive on a smaller PC. I just remember reading books with castles described as being terribly drafty!! Did you sign up for this swap to be rid of your one oversized PC?
Response: Hi, Monica, I am happy you liked this postcard. Many years ago, I visited Hohenschwangau, and came home with several oversized PCs, which over the years, I sent to multiple friends. The one you received was the last one. As we are still in lock-down mode here in Germany, it will probably take some time until I can visit a historic place again, come home with an oversized postcard, which I then can use in an oversized PC Swap. :) Again, I am happy you liked it :) Many greetings and stay save, Markus
