MESSAGE TO MY SWAP PARTNERS: I've fallen slightly behind due to a few unexpected bills I had to pay out (vet and car repairs to name a couple). I will try to get your parcel out, they're all ready to go, however my car is out of action for the minute until it gets repaired. I'm so sorry for the delay and will try to make up for it with the parcels themselves. Thank you! xox
(If you don't want to read this amazing attempt at babbling, please skip to the bottom =) )
I'm Leigh, I'm 20 from Essex in England, and I'm a swapholic.
Probably the biggest thing to note about me is that I'm a big history nerd. I've been reading about the Tudors since I was between 4 and 5 years old, so that's about 16 years? From them I've just gone backwards, and I would say that the Medieval period is my favourite period of history. As such I also truly adore the Arthurian legends, as well as the actual factual history behind "Arthur" - though there isn't much of it. I also love "Celtic" mythology (I put Celtic in speech marks, because alot of it is Irish based and mistakenly labeled as celtic, depending on the date it dates from - the native Irish are Gaelic). I think there is something about the whole magic and mystery behind these legends that appeal to me. Sometimes I wish that I lived back in the time of these people, because modern life, for me, is lacking in wonder. However, I'm glad I live in these times because it means I can feed my history habit haha. I work in a museum-in the Museum of London, come and visit me!- and will be starting my degree in history in October. I ADORE anything to do with history, and I would say it is my greatest love. I say I adore history, but I (controversially, considering where I work) think the Romans are overrated. They didn't civilise us, they showed us a didn't way of life. Grrr it gets me wound up.
After history, I would say my next biggest love is Cricket. I support the English cricket team and Essex too because that is my county, however they play so much, I often forget to check the scores. I will defend my beloved English cricket team, right to the very end. Despite the fact we played something like 15 matches recently without winning any of them. It's ok though boys, I still love you. And well done girlies! Brilliant work!
Apart from Cricket and History, I love flowers and animals. I often feel really at peace when I'm surrounded by nature. I'm not much of a city girl to be honest, I'd much rather live somewhere like the lake district, which is amazingly beautiful. My favourite flowers are (are you ready for this?) Chrysanthemums (though not the daisy types - Spider Chrysanths are my favourite), Lillies, Lobelias, Gerberas, Roses, Daffodils and Tulips. I love anything Floral and Cottagey and Vintage, I guess. Interesting fact: I was training to be a florist before I got my job in the museum and continue my original plan of becoming a history teacher. Another interesting fact: The strawberry is a member of the rose family.
I love Wales. It's my favourite place in the world. I love the language and the culture, and the beautiful scenery. Its a beautiful country with so much history and mystery steeped in the surroundings. I'm learning Welsh now =)
I love Celtic Mythology and kind of the whole fantasy genre. I love Lord of the Rings and Julliet Marrilier books. The whole intrigues me =)
I have a dog and two chinchillas and we seem to have adopted the most beautiful cat. I'm a big animal lover. Ducks and Dogs are my favourite (equally of course), but I love every animal except Spiders and Snakes (whome I only slightly dislike).
I love the water. I love to swim and need to get back into it, and would love to learn how to sail and surf one day. As such, I also love old seafarers tales about mermaids and things.
I love to read. I'm a big reader, usually historical non-fiction or fiction, or fantasy. I don't really read anything else. I'm reading a good book at the moment, called Britain AD, which is by a famous archaeologist called Francis Pryor. It's all about using archaeology to find out more about the Anglo-Saxons, Celts and (more importantly, for me anyway) to find out who King Arthur was. Of course we'll never know who he really was, which is appealing because it doesn't take the mystery out of the legend of the man himself, however don't read it if you don't want the legends themselves to be stripped of their mystery, as he pulls them apart practically within the first chapter on Arthur (about 25 pages into the book =S).
My favourite colour is Green, without a doubt. But I also like Teal and Blue, Turquoise and all sorts of green/blue combinations. I don't really like gold, but I do like silver. Very cool, me.
I love the 1930s/40s; everything about it. The music, the blitz spirit, the fashion even the food! When my Grandparents tell me stories about the war, I often wish people still lived the same kind of way. You know, apart from the war and rationing haha =)
I like to knit and I'm learning to crochet at the moment. I also like scrapbooking and have just recently got into making ATC's. The ATCs are particularly special. Its cool to think that in a 200 years time, people might be looking at our artwork in museums, just like we do today with the Victorian valentines cards =).
