Got a second?
I'm creative soul with more ideas than I know what to do with and I love listening to other people's ideas. For therapy I like to knit, crochet, bead, glue, sew, draw, paint (with watercolors), upcycle high quality 2nd hand clothing & goods, photography (digital cellphone), create online memes & photobook gifts for friends & family.
I'm 53, married to the love of my life of 26 years; a mother to 7 grown, independent free-thinkers - his, mine and ours; grandmother to 14 wonderful spirits, ranging from 1 in college to a 1 month old.
I'm a part-time student at a Michigan university, working on my 1st Bachelor's degree (finishing in Dec of 2015, Yay!) and a full-time student of life. I believe in continuous learning. There is so much in this world we miss when we close our mind.
I have a Facebook page. I don't play online games (virtual or reality) and I don't accept friendship requests from complete strangers. If you want to friend me, mention Swap-bot and your swapbot name, I'll accept.
I love animals and we have a 4 year old AKC registered black lab. We began training him for service as a therapy dog 2 years ago, specializing in Alzheimer's, aphasic stroke and cardiac patients. He loves kids, the elderly, cats, dogs, goats, sheep and yes, mini horses. He even has his own pet friendly Facebook page (with my permission), American Patriot Thomas Jefferson. It's rated G and geared towards people who need a pick me up, something to smile at, mainly 4 legged comedic antics. I would love to receive pictures, videos with very short heart warming anecdotes about your pets to share on TeeJay's page.
Recently I moved in with my mother to help her out with her day to day activities. She's a busy lady so she keeps me hopping.
I've played the piano for 47 years now. Taught home-schooled students who needed state approved music credits piano & music theory for 7 years. I also volunteered/taught public elementary/middle school children with transient behaviorial problems piano/music theory at the local public school, spending 1/2 hour a week, after school with them. All the children showed improvement in math, reading and attention problems, usually with in a month, and most never went back to "detention". Loved it!
My training has taught me to love and appreciate all music & true talent. I always wanted to learn to play guitar, just couldn't handle the feeling of the strings pressed beneath my fingertips.
My favorite music is Broadway, particularly anything by Andrew Lloyd Webber, John Williams and the late Jonathan Larson...genius. I love going to the local theater and watching live performances. The last play I went to was Red, White and Tuna. No music just a great play!
My least favorite type of music is anything that dehumanizes or objectifies another human being - can't be said enough.
My taste is rather eclectic. Most recently, I finished the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series. I'm currently hunting down 2nd hand copies of the Outlander series. I'm not a fad reader, i usually wait 'til the hype and movie run is over before I go looking in resale shops for well-loved books that have been donated to charity. I could spend all day in 2nd hand book stores.
The first thing I look for in a new area is the 2nd hand bookstores; the second thing I look for is grocery stores.
My head has been so full of textbooks, (yes, 2nd hand) this last year, it's about all I could fit in. My favorite author of all time is Jane Austen. I think J.K. Rowling, Nicholas Sparks and John Grisham are wonderful too.
No offense to anyone but I don't read Harlequin romance novels. I can pick up a few books at a second hand shop and join in on a swap, but I have no time or interest in the popular genre. I have friends who do, they let me know what's good and what's not. And, finally, no, I have zero desire to read "50 Shades of Grey".
I wish I had more time for them! I Love movies! Especially movies with the "man against all odds" theme. I love it when people show their best when things are darkest. I also love comedy. Go figure.
I loved "Cinderella Man", "A Beautiful Mind", both the A&E version & Hollywood version of "Pride & Prejudice", "Cold Mountain" just about anything Disney/Pixar and "Soul of the Game". I'm a fan of almost anything with (My top 12, in alphabetical order) Sandra Bullock, Gerard Butler, Bradley Cooper, Sean Connery, Russell Crowe, Johnny Depp, Robert Downey Jr., Clint Eastwood, Goldie Hawn, Audrey Hepburn, Dame Helen Mirren, Barbara Streisand & the late Robin Williams.
I have a saying that my grandchildren have all adopted, "cartoons shouldn't make you cry", but Disney/Pixar has been so great at that lately we have to buy a box of tissues to go with every DVD we buy - 2nd hand of course, the movie not the tissues.
Because of my school/work/volunteer schedule, I frequently binge watch - saving up weeks to watch later. Please don't ruin it for me.
As a whole, reality television bores me but I love documentaries and historical/anthropological research.
Recent fiction favorites are The Outlander, can't wait for the 2nd season. I finally succumbed to the Game of Thrones series - binge watched all 5 seasons "On Demand" in June. Can't wait for the series to start up again.
I love British humor, the double and, yes, the triple entendre is a gift. Grew up on Benny Hill; owned all 5 seasons of The IT crowd - fell in love with it the first show. Loaned them out, never got them back. Love "{insert any country's name} Got Talent" and I'm a long time fan of The Big Bang Theory, Bones & Castle. Ever since they killed off Dr. McDreamy, I can't watch Grey's Anatomy.
P.S. I have no interest in the Kardashian planets, or their spinning satellites. Please, they are absolutely a bore to me.
