k, this was just too juicy to pass up! i just worry that whatever i may find and think is ugly would actually be attractive to someone else! yikes. after all, ugly IS in the eye of the beholder. but dammit, i'm gonna do my best to make sure that EVERYONE would think that's it ugly! weeeeeeeeeee!!!

I've always want to get rid of my sister's kids.. and since there is no limit .....im game lol

Oh my goodness. Does this swap bring make a memory, which I shall save for my partner. What a fabulous idea for a swap. I suspect whatever I get will end up in the Giftmas Swap my family has at our end of the year gathering, but I will have a great story to go with my contribution!

this sounds like a fun swap and I actually have the perfect item for it not sure where it came from but DH found it setting on a shelf gathering dust the other day I will clean him all up and make him pretty unless I find something uglier. but I doubt it.

Hell, With the kids I will be able to give you the combo of ugly and cute..Yeah after the holidays I get so many useless un-thoughtful gifts.. like wth help am I going to do with a damn pink flamigo garden accessory.. seriously they thought I'd love it.

Oh my goodness! We had such fun with flamingos a few years ago for the winter holiday! We bought illuminated flamingos, a big illuminated palm tree and an illuminated alligator (crocodile?) and put them in the front yard. The neighbors (we live in southwestern Pennsylvania... rural to suburban area) thought we were nuts (we are). We also got small flamingo and palm tree neon lights for all the front windows. I put a Santa hat in the alligator's (crocodile's?) mouth. I loved that display. It got stolen about four days after we put it up. I am sure it is decorating some college student's dorm, but that's okay.

Last year we put glittering snowflakes, tons of them, on the big pine tree out front. VERY tacky, but I love it. From a distance, okay.... even up close.. they look like glittering Star of Davids. The neighbors avoid us all the more. Damn I love passive aggressive holiday displays.

waaaaaaaah! I'm laughing so hard I think I'm crying. An old friend of mine and I used to exchange Hideous Birthday Gifts. The deal was you had to have this gift ON DISPLAY untill your next birthday. If it wasn't on display when we visited (and noticed), that meant we could take ANYTHING we wanted from the other's person house. The ugliest thing I ever gave her was a door-length New Kids On The Block mirror. A year is a long time to have that thing in an entryway.

If anyone flakes on this swap, we should all BOMBARD him/her with ugly things! Ha hahaaa.

Did you know the Japanese word for "hideous" is surprisingly close the to Japanese word for "cute"? I just love the idea that a gazillion US women could approach a Japanese woman (hell... she could be Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, Singaporean, etc, and they would just assume "Japanese") and tell them their child is "kawaii" and pronounce it wrong and really be telling the woman her child is hideous.

We are going with the glittering snowflake/Star of Davids, but we think we will mount them on stakes and line the driveway rather than wrap the big pine tree. It was a nightmare trying to get those snowflakes off the tree! Took us until May (but we did turn them off in January... we do have some tact).

However, we are also consider making some lawn ornaments. I wanted to do a Santa with a martini glass watching a hula dancer, but that is a bit mundane. Maybe make some big martini, wine and scotch glasses, illuminate them and spell out the word "Cheer!" in red and green blinking lights?

We had a pink fuzzy bathmat with dingleballs all around the edge. It was UGLY. My grandmother bought it at a yardsale about 25 years ago. I took it to college and dyed it purple. Wasn't my little sister surprised when she opened her wedding shower present a few years ago to find....the baatthhhmatttt...I bet she has it stored away to give my daughter when she gets married! :)

Our other Christmas tradition involved presents from the animals. I have no idea where the pony got the big ugle tiki mug. I think he snuck in to the thrift store!

I was in a thrift shop today looking for books and I thought of this swap and decided to take a look around. OMG! there are some REALLY ugly things out there, the winner by far was a wall clock which someone collaged the word coctail with a bunch of pictures of drinks they cut from a magazine. It was horrid, really and truely... but I just couldn't bring myself to buy it... I just couldn't send that to anyone. Can we just do ugly-up-to-a-point?

Last night I went to the thrift store, there I found an old-school vintage cymbal monkey that winds up. These toys have always creeped me out. I think it started in the 6th grade when I read Stephen King's The Monkey.
