Shabby Chic Description:

Shabby chic items are often inspired by old French linens. Whites and worn or bleached out pastels are favorite colours. Fabric is often stained with tea to give it the look of old fabric. Bleached and faded are terms often applied to the style. Lots of lace. The essence of shabby chic style is vintage, antique and distressed..but Clean and Neat! Pink, mint green, and soft aqua are also popular colors seen in accessories and fabrics. Popular Shabby Chic items are made of vintage linens, chenille, vintage chandeliers, feature birds, swirls, damask and anything with roses on it. It is a soft, relaxed, feminine and romantic style that looks comfortable and inviting

For this swap you will send your partner a jar full of Shabby Chic items, AND a altered notebook (standard 8 1/2x11). Altered notebooks are cheap to make and a lot of fun. You can personalize the notebook with your partner's name or initial. Please make it match your whimsy jar.

For the whimsy jar, send beautiful, unusual and useful Shabby Chic craft items. Your items should be Brand New with the exception of vintage fabric and lace. You will have 3 weeks to put it all together. Send a package that makes your partner feel good when she opens it.

                          Guidelines:
  • You jar must be at least 5 inches tall. It can be glass or plastic. If you're recycling, make sure your jar is clean (smells good) and the label is completely removed.

  • You can include a FEW bigger items but don't forget the smaller whimsical items. That's what makes a whimsy...a whimsy. Bigger items can be included separately, in your shipping box.

  • Please read your partners profile. Fill your jar with Shabby Chic crafting goodies, according to the crafts that they do.

  • You Must decorate the lid of your jar. I just received an undecorated whimsy jar and it was very disappointing.

  • Make sure the altered notebook matches your whimsy jar (make is Shabby Chic too). Notebook size should be a standard spiral notebook (8 1/2 x 11) or a composition book.

Here's a few good examples of altered notebooks. Flickr has some great examples as well.

I'm going to watch this for now. I would have joined in a heartbeat if it was the notebook only (one of my favorite things to do is alter notebooks), but I have not done a whimsy jar and I'm concerned that I wouldn't find appropriate things to fill it. I'll look around, though, and join up if I do. Thanks.

I'll add a list of ideas to the top to help out Euphoria.

i'm going to have to watch this swap for bit... need to clear out some of my swaps before i can join, but.... oh i love it! i just got back from a vacation in PARIS! and i totally fell in love with the style. i'd love any French goodies if you can find them! :) i'm so excited! i'm going hunting for a jar this weekend!

i hate to ask this, but is there a price range for this swap? i don't want to send too little or way too much! i like to be generous, but i tend to over do it sometimes, too. $15 maybe? let me know! thanks!

CraftySenorita 05/20/2009 #

I'd say between $8-$12 should be enough. If you want to spend a little more, that's up to you. If I found something that was perfect for this swap, I would definitely spend a few extra dollars.

I wish I could join. This is all of my favorites. I love vintage and shabby chic. Looks like fun. But I dont have enough ratings yet. I have been flaked on twice so I havent joined anymore.

i only have one request: please don't send dolls or images of dolls. for some reason i find them very creepy! :) hope this isn't too much of a challenge! thanks!

CraftySenorita 05/23/2009 #

lol If I get you, I promise I won't.

This swap looks wonderful! If I wasn't a newbie I'd join, but I don't have enough shabby chic stuff to fill a jar. I'd rather swap just a notebook.

CraftySenorita 05/31/2009 #

Pryor, You have to actually go out and buy stuff to full a jar. Most swaps on here require you to spend some money. Don't worry, you won't be a newbie forever! Get some smaller swaps under your belt 1st , then you can join the swaps you like.
