Do you like working on projects that can easily be taken with you to work, appointments, on the bus/subway, in the car, on vacation, etc?? I know I do!

This round of the Knit Kit swap is for small projects -- socks, lace scarves, baby items, kitchen goodies like dishcloths/potholders, pocketbooks, washcloths, etc. Any projects that you enjoy knitting and can take on-the-go!

This round of the Knit Kit swap will be a PRIVATE SWAP. That means that signups are by invitation only. This will cut down on flakes -- I want everyone to have a good time, and to know that their package will be arriving! If you know any great swappers who would enjoy this swap, just PM me their email address and I'll invite them to join in. Reliable, good swappers ONLY please!!!

Please fill out the swap survey (I will be adding it here very soon!!) and post to the swap page so that your partner knows what sort of small project you want to make, and about your other preferences/allergies, etc. I encourage everyone to contact their partners and get to know them -- that just makes the exchange more fun for everyone! And we all end up making new friends that way as well!

Knit Kit packages should have a minimum value of $25

Kits should include:

  1. Yarn, pattern, knitting needles and notions to complete a small knitted project (please send the type of project kit requested by your partner (i.e...socks, scarf, etc).

  2. A small knitting bag that the project could call home. :)Store bought, hand made - it's your choice. :) There's lots of cute little bags out there that could be used to carry small knitting projects!

  3. Summer or vacation related goodies -- for example, puzzle books for in the car, travel cup/mug, easily toteable knitting supplies, a book, flip flops.....just summer fun/trip related goodness to go with your knit kit.

Please don't send cheap acrylic yarns, broken knitting needles, or other unusable/undesirable items to your partner. Send out a package that you would love to receive, and your partner will also love it!

Just have fun with this swap -- give your package a theme if you like, decorate the box, send a fun pattern....whatever strikes you! Be creative and have a good time! That's what swapping is all about!!

1.What sort of small project(s) kit do you want to knit?? (i.e. socks, lace scarf, dishcloths, potholders, small pocketbook, etc) --I love to make lace scarves using fingering weight or sock yarn--

2.What are your favorite colors? Are there any colors you don't like?? --My favorite colors are jewel tones of blue and green and autumn shades, but I pretty much like any color but pink. And I'm not overly fond of pastels.--

3.Are there any types of yarn you really enjoy working with?? Are there any fibers you don't like?? If you are allergic to any natural fibers, please let your partner know! --I love soft yarns. Any natural fibers like wool, wool blends, mohair, etc. Soft acrylics are not bad either. But I can't work with plastic-y/rough acrylic yarns as they tear up the skin on my hands while I knit. --

  1. Do you have any allergies -- pets, certain fibers, smoke, scents, foods, dyes, etc. --I am VERY allergic to cigarette smoke. So please if you smoke, air out the yarn before sending or I could have an asthma attack. And please no floral scented candles or other goodies...they make me sneeze. --

    1. What sort of extra goodies do you like?? Is there anything you prefer not to receive?? Are there any goodies that you would really really loveeeee to receive (i.e you really need a new tape measure, or your travel cup's lid just broke, etc.)--I would really love to receive some stitch markers. Please don't send any chocolate or candy as I'm diabetic and can't have the sugar. I can have cocoa or flavored coffee once a day, so I can have stuff like that. Just not candies/chocolate unless it's sugar free.--

6.Is there anything else your partner needs to know??? Nothing that I can think of.....if you have any questions, just PM or email me! :)

JP 04/29/2007 #

eeeek...questions 4 and 5 had a mind of their own. Wonder what I did to make them indent like that?? LOL. :)

PREFERENCE SURVEY (Please post your answers in the comment section of the swap so your partner can personalize your knit kit!) 1. What sort of small project(s) kit do you want to knit?? (i.e. socks, lace scarf, dishcloths, potholders, small pocketbook, etc) I’m learning how to knit socks so a sock pattern would be great or a future goal is lace – so a simple lace scarf pattern would be nice too.

  1. What are your favorite colors? Are there any colors you don't like?? My favorite colors tend to be in the non pastel purple and blue color family. I don’t care for pastels, pinks and yellow.

  2. Are there any types of yarn you really enjoy working with?? Are there any fibers you don't like?? If you are allergic to any natural fibers, please let your partner know! As far as I know, I’m not allergic to any fibers; however, would prefer a non-itchy yarn or fiber.

  3. Do you have any allergies -- pets, certain fibers, smoke, scents, foods, dyes, etc. I’m allergic to cats, dogs, smoke, scents, and fruit acids.

  4. What sort of extra goodies do you like?? Is there anything you prefer not to receive?? Are there any goodies that you would really really loveeeee to receive (i.e you really need a new tape measure, or your travel cup's lid just broke, etc.) I’ll leave to extra goodies to my partner, but please no coffee – while I’m not allergic to it, it really doesn’t like me. Tea and chocolate are always good choices if you’re thinking along that line.

  5. Is there anything else your partner needs to know??? Not that I can think of right now. If my partner has any question, please email me.

Are there any fibers you don't like?? synthetics, unless they're an element in some funky handspun

  1. Do you have any allergies -- pets, certain fibers, smoke, scents, foods, dyes, etc. SMOKE

  2. What sort of extra goodies do you like?? Is there anything you prefer not to receive?? What sort of small project(s) kit do you want to knit?? (i.e. socks, lace scarf, dishcloths, potholders, small pocketbook, etc)

PREFERENCE SURVEY (Please post your answers in the comment section of the swap so your partner can personalize your knit kit!)

  1. What sort of small project(s) kit do you want to knit?? (i.e. socks, lace scarf, dishcloths, potholders, small pocketbook, etc)

I'm definitely a sock knitter, but have so much sock yarn. I'm not sure if I need more :) I have been knitting some dishcloths, since I bought a new house, and I love to knit scarves. I also really enjoy the Noni handbag patterns.

  1. What are your favorite colors? Are there any colors you don't like??

My favorite colors would have to be reds or greens, but anything goes. As long as its "pretty".

  1. Are there any types of yarn you really enjoy working with?? Are there any fibers you don't like?? If you are allergic to any natural fibers, please let your partner know!

I like working with wool. Don't like working with mohair. It makes me sneeze, though I'm not allergic. I usually don't like cotton, either, but I absolutely LOVE Knit Picks Shine. The worsted weight is great for dishcloths (hint hint)

  1. Do you have any allergies -- pets, certain fibers, smoke, scents, foods, dyes, etc.

I'm allergic to antibiotics. As long as you don't send those, I think we're good :)

  1. What sort of extra goodies do you like?? Is there anything you prefer not to receive?? Are there any goodies that you would really really loveeeee to receive (i.e you really need a new tape measure, or your travel cup's lid just broke, etc.)

Hmmm... I wouldn't mind getting whole bean coffee as I just got this kick a*s coffee maker that grinds the beans and brews it all at the same time. Also, I love loose leaf tea. Um, chocolate is good, as is anything knitting related. Books are fantastic, too!

  1. Is there anything else your partner needs to know???

I love these "kit" swaps! They are so much fun. I'm looking forward to getting to know someone new :)

JP 05/ 4/2007 #

Oh grrrrr! Just gotta vent gals...lol. The gal I was sending to for the Spring purse kit swap was very late in sending out her package.....so I emailed her and told her that her package was being held until her partner received from her. Fair solution, right?? If she sends, her package is mailed by me. If she flakes, I send the package to her partner.

Well, the swap deadline was April 20th. The postmark on the package her partner received yesterday was May 1st. Her partner rated her a 3 saying thank you, but it was mailed 10 days late.

So as promised the late sender's package is going to the post office today. But....in the meantime, the woman rated me a 1 saying I constantly harrassed her and that she never received a package.

THANK GOD you can now respond to ratings. I am hopping mad!!! I sent her TWO emails about her late package. That's it...all professional and polite. And I held her package because her swap was still marked unsent nearly a week after the mailing deadline passed.

These knit kit swaps are going to stay "Private'' from now on. No more flakes and bad swappers!!!!

I had to put an explanation on my profile about the bad rating, plus respond to it. She rated me a 1 out of spite and retribution -- Grrrrrrr!!!!

Oh well....as a swap coordinator, I'm happy. Her partner received her package! And I can explain away the bad rating, as what she says isn't true.

And....now these exchanges are by invitation only and filled with all good and happy swappers!

It will be a great change!!!! :)

winemakerssister 05/ 4/2007 #

It was ME -- Juli got a "1" because she took care of ME. Juli, I'm so sorry! I just left a comment on your profile page -- I hope that helps.

I'm glad you were able to set up this swap by-invitation-only. And thanks again for all your help and encouragement during the swap.

Hi! 1.What sort of small project(s) kit do you want to knit?? (i.e. socks, lace scarf, dishcloths, potholders, small pocketbook, etc) In my country the season is Fall, almost Winter, so I would preffer a sock project or a mitten project.

2.What are your favorite colors? Are there any colors you don't like??I dont have favorite colors, but I dont like much dark colors. (The weather is dark enough, jajajaj)

3.Are there any types of yarn you really enjoy working with?? Are there any fibers you don't like?? If you are allergic to any natural fibers, please let your partner know! I really enjoy with every tipe of wool, or natural fibers or blend of these, because I try to do not use acrilic fibers, (only for embellishments o blended with natural fibers).

5.What sort of extra goodies do you like?? Is there anything you prefer not to receive?? Are there any goodies that you would really really loveeeee to receive (i.e you really need a new tape measure, or your travel cup's lid just broke, etc.) I love tea blends, specially loose leaf tea, chocolate, cup chocolate. Something that I need that I would love to receive could be stitch markers, because I cant find them in my country.Something for entertainment it would be fun too, like something to read. I dont know, everything will be fine, they are only ideas.

6.Is there anything else your partner needs to know??? I love knitting and swapping, so everything will be fine. Enjoy the swap!

lizandjuan 05/ 8/2007 #

I LOVE to knit socks! Any kind of yarn will do, in any colors! Surprise me!! Any extras or notions would be okay; I'm not fussy. Thanks so much in advance!!

nifferjjl1980 05/ 8/2007 #

I would like to preface this by saying that I'm really not picky as long as it's yarn store quality, these are just ideas. Part of the reason I do these swaps is to mix up my stash a bit with things that I don't have yet!

  1. I'm a sock addict! SOCKS!!

  2. Let's see, I like having someone else picking out my colors b/c I get stuck in a rut picking out the same things over and over iwthout meaning too!! So all I'm going to say is nothing too bright, but really, anything goes!

  3. I'm afraid to answer the favorite colors! Let's see, I love purple, greens, blues. I don't like brights necessarily.

  4. I like hand dyed yarns. Merino wool. Super soft, not scratchy. Just an FYI. My favorite sock yarn is Socks That Rock. So I like good quality stuff. I'd love to try something new by an independent dyer. That's always fun.

  5. I get really upset when I'm sent a swap that smells like smoke or has pet hair on it!!! (past expierence)

  6. Extra goodies? fun stitch markers would be nice. store bought candies. i love sugar!

tyra 05/ 9/2007 #

Hi Juli. Sorry I am a bit late with the answers to the questinons to the swap. 1. As a project i would like to knit a lace scarf. 2. The colours I like ar all kind of blue and lome green. I am not so fond of orange and yellow. 3. I like all kind of natural yarns. No acrylic. 4. I am allergic to besticks and cats, but that would not be any problem in this swap. 5. I am a coffe and chocolate drinker and I love chockolate. Hugs from a cold Sweden. Ingrid

TriStateLinx 05/ 9/2007 #

Thanks for the invitation Juli. That was sweet that you thought of me.

I just would like everyone to know that I do not have any preference on yarn, nor do I have any allergies.

All and all I like the surprise of swapping. Just as long as my partner like what he/she is sending, that is fine with me.

Thanks once again.

What sort of small project(s) kit do you want to knit?? (i.e. socks, lace scarf, dishcloths, potholders, small pocketbook, etc) ~~~~~~I haven't done socks yet so I think those are out. Other than that I am open for anything.

What are your favorite colors? Are there any colors you don't like?? ~~~~~~I try to stay away from bright colors. I'm not a fan of bright orange or green but like more subdued colors.

Are there any types of yarn you really enjoy working with?? Are there any fibers you don't like?? If you are allergic to any natural fibers, please let your partner know! ~~~~~~All good here. Whatever works for the pattern or you think my be best than I'm all for it. I'm not allergic to anything.

Do you have any allergies -- pets, certain fibers, smoke, scents, foods, dyes, etc. ~~~~~~No allergies though I profess that I do not like smoke or wet dog smells.

What sort of extra goodies do you like?? Is there anything you prefer not to receive?? Are there any goodies that you would really really loveeeee to receive (i.e you really need a new tape measure, or your travel cup's lid just broke, etc.) ~~~~~~Goodies...hmmmmm....a new tape measure would be nice since my kids take off with the one I have but I try to be easy and if you like it I'm sure I would too. I do love crossword puzzles though.

Is there anything else your partner needs to know??? ~~~~~~I have no idea. I like to think that I am an open minded person so have fun with it.

What sort of small project(s) kit do you want to knit?? (i.e. socks, lace scarf, dishcloths, potholders, small pocketbook, etc)

  1. I just learned to knit socks so that would be ok. If not anything will do but I love socks!!!!!

What are your favorite colors? Are there any colors you don't like??

  1. I love all colors really. My favorites are purple, blue. red, green, black, really anything goes variegated also

Are there any types of yarn you really enjoy working with?? Are there any fibers you don't like?? If you are allergic to any natural fibers, please let your partner know!

  1. I don't like scratchy stuff but I don't have allergies so anything will work. Think natural, soft yarn.

Do you have any allergies -- pets, certain fibers, smoke, scents, foods, dyes, etc.

  1. No to allergies of any kind

What sort of extra goodies do you like?? Is there anything you prefer not to receive?? Are there any goodies that you would really really loveeeee to receive (i.e you really need a new tape measure, or your travel cup's lid just broke, etc.)

  1. I love surprises! Anything sent would be loved.

Is there anything else your partner needs to know???

  1. If so email me!!!!!!!

  1. What sort of small project(s) kit do you want to knit??- I enjoy knitting socks & dishcloths, but I’d like to try some fingerless mitt, or maybe something in lace, which I’ve never done- I’m ready for something different
  2. What are your favorite colors? Are there any colors you don't like??- I like jewel & earth tones; I don’t like neon shades
  3. Are there any types of yarn you really enjoy working with?? Are there any fibers you don't like?? - I like most natural fibers & particularly like merino, alpaca, & Egyptian cotton; I avoid worsted wool except for felted projects- it makes me itch
  4. Do you have any allergies -- pets, certain fibers, smoke, scents, foods, dyes, etc. – I have an asthmatic at home, so no smoke-scented yarn, please
  5. What sort of extra goodies do you like?? Is there anything you prefer not to receive?? Are there any goodies that you would really really loveeeee to receive – I wouldn’t mind some cute stitch markers, or foldable scissors, but love surprises; (I love chocolate, green tea, & honey)
  6. Is there anything else your partner needs to know???- I’m an intermediate knitter & only use wooden knitting needles; you might drop by my profile or website(s) for anything else.

  1. What sort of small project(s) kit do you want to knit?? (i.e. socks, lace scarf, dishcloths, potholders, small pocketbook, etc)I've been making scarfs and bags lately. Socks would be nice but I'm just learning to knit them.

  2. What are your favorite colors? Are there any colors you don't like?? Black, all shades of red, earth tones, olive/navy green. I'm not too fond of pastels.

  3. Are there any types of yarn you really enjoy working with?? Are there any fibers you don't like?? If you are allergic to any natural fibers, please let your partner know! I'm a bit allergic to wool but if it's good quality and not too 'itchy', it's not a problem.

  4. Do you have any allergies -- pets, certain fibers, smoke, scents, foods, dyes, etc. Smoke, some foods (inc. herbs but I can always offer treats to my freinds if they're not suitable for me!), yarn that looses a lot of colour while working with it might cause a problem too.

  5. What sort of extra goodies do you like?? Is there anything you prefer not to receive?? Are there any goodies that you would really really loveeeee to receive (i.e you really need a new tape measure, or your travel cup's lid just broke, etc.) I'd loooove to receive kool-aid for colouring my yarn as it's not available here. Also neat stitch marks, bamboo needles etc. - but I love all neat surprises!

  6. Is there anything else your partner needs to know??? E-mail me if there's something you need to know :)

PREFERENCE SURVEY (Please post your answers in the comment section of the swap so your partner can personalize your knit kit!)

What sort of small project(s) kit do you want to knit?? (i.e. socks, lace scarf, dishcloths, potholders, small pocketbook, etc) - - I would love to make more socks (I am into "Monkey socks" and would not mind some special yarn for those...

What are your favorite colors? Are there any colors you don't like?? - - I like pink, green, blue, turquoise, not in love with dark colors - hard to knit in low light or neon brights.

Are there any types of yarn you really enjoy working with?? Are there any fibers you don't like?? If you are allergic to any natural fibers, please let your partner know! - -no allergies that effect knitting - don't love cotton sock yarn - but do like the softness of bamboo or other "different fibers" making toufooties socks right now - soy based yarn. do't like acyrlics or eyelash type novelites at all either.

Do you have any allergies -- pets, certain fibers, smoke, scents, foods, dyes, etc. - - none

What sort of extra goodies do you like?? Is there anything you prefer not to receive?? Are there any goodies that you would really really loveeeee to receive (i.e you really need a new tape measure, or your travel cup's lid just broke, etc.) - - a new travel mug would be good, or storage for my sock needles would be nice (they are all over the place... Is there anything else your partner needs to know??? - - I really am easy to please, I love swaping and its fun when the package is special. I travel alot in the summer and it would be nice if the project was appropriate for taking on vacation.

KnittingCateling 06/ 2/2007 #

I sent my package today, and I have a warning for other swappers in the US who may be mailing international packages.

When postage prices went up a few weeks ago, the surface shipping option for overseas destinations was eliminated. I did not understand this before I went to the post office today, and ended up spending nearly as much to ship my package as I had putting it together.

I am not bitter about this, but I do wish I had understood this change in mailing options when I was putting the package together. I could have made different choices and put together a lighter kit that would have fit my partner's preferences just as well, and saved myself some shipping costs.

I'm sharing this here in the hopes that some other swappers can learn from my experience.

Happy swapping!
