Description:

I had this idea this morning and couldn't wait to create the swap! What you do is send your partner an envelope of scraps and embellishments that you'd like to see a project created with. THEN you create something with the stuff you receive and send it to the person who was your partner!!!

To break it down better-Kim sends an envelope of papers, stamped images, ribbons, punched shapes, embellishments etc to Kathy. When Kathy gets her envelope, she creates a card or other project (bookmark, pin, trading card/ATC etc) using the supplies and sends it to Kim. You do not have to use ALL of the items you receive-you keep the things you don't use. AND, in addition, you can use other items that you have on hand. But do your best to create an item that you'd like to receive yourself. I don't know if there is a place or way to show our completed items on swap-bot, if not, I'll set up a picture trail that we can show everyone what we got back for accountability purposes. I can't wait to see what creativity arises!

You should send your items in a 6x9 envelope so there is plenty to work with. AND YOU MUST INCLUDE your name and address in with your scraps-if you can enclose a label-that's bonus! DO NOT FORGET this step. I have received packages from people on swap bot that don't put their name on the outside of the envelope, just their 2 line address. This is NOT acceptable. INSIDE of the envelope you must enclose your name and full address so the recipient knows who to send the completed item back to!!!

USA and Canada only please!

What is the time frame to have the project made up and sent back? This sounds like fun!!

Saulute 01/29/2009 #

Love your idea! In this case we don't need to keep it profile exact, right? We send colors and pictures we like, because the product will be ours anyway at the end?

Rubyfreckles 01/29/2009 #

this sounds like fun :) but i'm 2nding the question blonde998 posted...

I don't have any way to enforce a time frame for the return. I will note in the description a send by date, but need input as to how long you think it should take...Is a week past the due date sufficent? You do NOT have to check profiles for this swap! The reason for this is...if my partner is into skeletons and Halloween, and I'm not, then I won't have any scraps that will accomodate. PLUS since the completed item is coming back to you you will want something that you do like in return! PLUS, BONUS, IF you get a partner who doesn't like what you do, it will cause them to step out of their comfort zone to create something they might not have otherwise attempted! They can always return the extras in the envelope with the completed project if they don't think they will ever use them. Thanks for joining! This should be a blast!

How fun. This will be cool.

I've done one of these before, but the person who is to make something is the one who got rated, not the person who sends the "parts." IOW, we sent our "parts" to the person who is assigned to send to US. The due date of the swap was for the person to make something (in our case, a collage) and send it back and we rated the person who made the item. It worked out really well this way. It's easy to send an envy of stuff to get a rating, but once you get the stuff, what is to motivate you to spend a lot of time and care creating a project and sending it out when you won't even get rated for it and won't get a "1" if you never actually do it? Just putting this out there for consideration. I can see where you might have a lot of flakers (who won't even get called on it) if you rate the "parts" senders instead of the project creators.

I agree with what euphoria says!! I would love to participate in this swap if we get to "SEND" to the person who is to send to us and we rate them on the Completed project, that solves your due date problem, too.

nicole309 01/29/2009 #

Me too! I would be totally into that!

I understand Euphoria's point about this, but I see one problem. It seems like an awful lot of work for each person to have to be responsible for making sure the person they swap with has their address. How do you keep track of that? Also, the rating for this swap isn't so much for the final product as it is the "parts". The final product is a "bonus". I will definitely make sure to stress in the description, that the return is NOT a given. What is a given is that everyone who plays will get rated on the items that they send-hopefully not crap or they will be rated accordingly AND they will have an envelope of parts to play with. In a perfect world, there would be no flakers. Since we don't live there, we can only hope that anyone who joins this swap and doesn't "bless" the sender with a completed card will not be allowed to participate in future swaps. I will definitely keep track and I will definitely drop a flaker in a heartbeat from any future swap of mine. Euphoria, if you want to host the swap you are referring to, please feel free, no hard feelings.

Kimi, there was no work at all to sending the address; we only had one person to PM our address to. And because you're going to get something back that is made with the parts you send, it would be really foolish to send crappy parts. Anyway, I just thought I'd throw the idea in for consideration. I hope the swap goes well; it's a really fun idea and I enjoyed the collage swap I joined with the same concept. :)
