Journal Swap

Is this going to only 1 partner or will it be sent around to everyone who signs up?

Hi, is this an international swop, and maybe it would be an idea to have a minimum size journal, as I have been involved in ones before and if someone sends quite a large journal and then gets say a mini one back...may not be happy bunnies?! Alex

That would be fun if it were sent in a big circle and you ended up with the same one you sent out.. To get to know more about everyone in the swap and put a face to the name.

yeah-same question here-is it gonna be international? I also like the idea of the journal going round in a circle...you could fix a maximum size so shipping doesnt get too expensive...or maybe have a smaller circle of five people or something in case a lot of people sign up...hopefully

if it's a circle that goes around I'm in!I did one before and everyone sent one out and got one back in the end that was all decorated by people all over the world. It was great!!

mmmm circle journal sounds fab...maybe hard to organise though? maybe if this is not a few of us could get together via swap forms or email and start one between us?

Yes this is international - I'm not sure how swap-bot can do a circle journal.

I guess that each person sends on the the to your partner each time you get one.

My only concern is that you get your journal back. I've done some circle and never gotten my my journal back.

I guess if we want to do a circle journal that everyone's rating must be a 4+ to participate.

So is it decided that this will be a circle journal swap? As cool as it sounds, I'm a bit iffy about that because of the high cost of shipping, but I can drop if that's what everybody else wants to do.

I guess I'm confused. I thought this was just a one time deal and then maybe starting another circle journal swap? Also, I'm not sure it would be fair to the people who have signed up for this swap who don't have a rating yet to kick them out so it could be a circle swap. ... but that's just my two cents.

Just a reminder this is going to be a round robin. You will each get a partner and when you get a journal you should send it on to your partner.

Okay, this may sound dumb, but the journal that we send to our partner; is that the journal they will finally end up with?

Do we need to write anything more than our name and address in the front of the first journal before sending it to our partner?

so eventually we'll all work on everyone's book - all 14, correct? So, in otherwords, this is now a traveling one. That's ok - I'm cool with it - but it has morphed from what I originally signed up for.

I, too, have participated in rr's, decos, etc only to have them never return home. That being said, I am participating in a traveling altered book here on swap bot. I think we need some basic rules (especially now that I have some experience) The traveling AB group decided to start a yahoo group where everyone put their info in the database - plus of list of who mails to who. We agreed on a 2 week turn around time. That being said, there appears to be a bottle neck! I haven't gotten a book in over a month! The longer the lapse time, the more likely things are to get lost, forgotten, lose their priority!

I just checked back in to see the change - I have already made my journal for my partner and it will not work for a round robin.
May I just suggest that everyone confirms with the host that we are doing the round robin. If the general consensus is so, fine. Otherwise, I think we should stay with the original description.

That being said - I will go along with this swap either way even though I signed on for the round robin with Gram's Button Box.

i'll do the round robin if it's the general consensus too, but it's frustrating since it's not what i originally signed up for.

i think a round robin could be really cool. i think we need some more quidelines though (ie. how long you have until you ship each one, etc). im just really excited to start this... so i just need to the go ahead on whatever kind of swap this is. i also think if it is a round robin one, it would be a good idea if we all checked in once in a while on here in the comment section or something, just so we all know that the journals are still moving and whatnot. hope that makes sense!

I'm sending the journal to my partner on the way to work in an hour -- I hope the fwe pages I did at the beginning are what's wanted since I've never done a shared journal of any kind before - finally decided to just do my thing and learn from the other journals as they cometo me ... if this works, which I hope it will.

hey, im sending mine out this afternoon. basically, i just wrote a little intro about myself and now im leaving it in your hands. i cant wait to get all of you journals and help beautify them. i dont know about you guys, but i'll do my best to send the journals on in 4-5 days once i get them (i know we all want these back in a timely fashion!). thats all for now.

I'm liking this now that I'm getting a feel for it -- got my first journal, added some stuff according to the sender's list of preferences and have just put it into the mail to the person I sent the first journal to. So curious to see each one as it arrives ... a little hint of what each person is thinking/doing. Neat.

I was not able to withdrawal from this before deadline. I didn't know it was going to change to a round robin. But I think we sorted it out, as I contacted the person who was sending to me, and the person I was sending to. Now they are just going to bypass sending to me, and it should work out just fine. Although I did receive a journal and I did write in it, add a little embellishment for fun, and wrapped it up and mailed it off. Hope you all have fun! - Chelsea

I had mine all ready to go out, but received one from Mercourier today, so I am going make mine a little better, I wasn't sure how or where to start this is my first rr, I now have a much better idea. Kudos Mercourier, it looks awesome. I will send both on to Meg later today, I hope that's okay. Please let me know when it arrives....

I sent my book to Chelsea. She emailed me saying that she needed to drop out but she would work on mine and then send it on to the person she was assigned. She asked if I would just skip her and send directly to the parner she was assigned. I have agreed to do that.

Today I received Ellen's book. I will try to complete it tonight so that it is dry enough to send on tomorrow morning. I will be mailing it (and subsequent books) to Marieka in the Netherlands. Ellen, your book will go out no later than Wednesday April 18.

I received your journal today Julie. What a fun package! Thank you! : ) You're right, my favorite theme is Halloween and spooky stuff. I'll get started on your journal tonight.

Help! I rec'd the two journals from Ellen today - both are LOVELY by the way : )

According to what Ellen has said, these belong to Lynnete and June. Neither has a name or address inside and one of the came in a plastic bag with a sticker that said Mary Boatright of Huron, SD

I know there are 2 similar swaps going on (I know, because I am in both!) and it gets rather confusing!!! Mary B is Grams Button Box and she is hosting the journal round robin #1 - I think she is in this one, too.

I am going to swapbot msg June. Lynnette & MaryB for identification and addresses.

I've emailed the hostess on a couple of things but haven't ever gotten a response - so may I ask a BIG FAVOR?!?!?! Please, please, please put your name, address and screen name in the book??? I am so anal about this, I know - I know how badly I want my own book back and not lost - I wish to treat all of your books the same way!

Holy cow, have I messed up? I thought I was very careful to pass along the correct journals - and yes, I am in two round robins too.

In a swap journal I have listed both swaps and the participants in each - I am recording when I receive and when I sent it out. There shouldn't have been an error but ...well, never say never.

I think what I have done, is used a plastic bag from Mary B since all four came in plastic. Just a mix-up with the bags.

I believe that the journals do have the id of the original owner in the first pages. Jeanne3k, can you double check.

Man, I do hope there has not been a mix-up. I apologize in advance if there has been.

On the happy side, Grinch sent along Megan Cross's journal today. Megan, it's got a brand new cloth quilted cover, courtesy of June (calendar girl) and it's looking lovely. I will play with it for a day or two then get it on the way to Jeanne3k - my partner.

At first I'm sorry for not posting here before, but my grandmother suddenly past away and I had other priorities the last weeks. I can tell you that I have sent my own journal and ellen's journal to molly (triceramolly) yesterday. I had a lot of fun working in Ellen's journal it was a nice disstrection. No, she's sending to Molly - triceramolly according to her messages when I read back. Why not email suefitz and get her to check who sends to you? It will be terrible if someone isn't sending!!

No, I know that Molly is sending to me because she messaged me a while ago, but it's been about three weeks and I haven't gotten it and can't seem to get a hold of Molly. I'm kind of hoping she'll see this and maybe can tell me what post she used or if it went back to her for some reason. I would hate for her journal to be lost in the mail... And I don't mean to be a pest about this, but I was so excited when this swap started....

I'm fine with making a new journal but please give me a week to make one. But we've to ask ellen what she thinks of it. And I still haven't receive jeanne's journal which was sent over a month ago to me by chelsea.

This is the other Julie, and no I haven't received a journal to date. I was also in another swap with Sue and dropped a note to her when I sent the swap. I've also tried contacting her through swap-bot with no reply. I've also tried contacting Molly with no reply. I just want to decorate some journals and finally get mine back!

I have heard from several people in this swap, about how some problems seem to have erupted - unfortunately, the host has not posted to this comment section in almost two months.

all I can say about this swap is that I'm very sorry - it IS very possible to run a successful round robin swap - but the host has to take some major responsibility for it, tho.

I DO know that she has been online, and in swapbot, as she has signed up for my FAST turnaround swap, #3417 -

I hope that you hear from her, and again, I'm really sorry if this swap ends up as a loss. I hope that it does not totally sour any of you to the concept of a round robin.

I hate to be that person again, but I think that this journal swap is dying. I mean, we know at least two people aren't sending and it's such a disappointment for the rest of us!

So I would like to propose a new idea - a private round robin journal swap. Then, those of us who really want to do it, could do it.. and hopefully organize it a little bit better.

I don't want you all to think that I'm proposing this lightly - I mean I don't like the idea of abandoning a swap, but this one just doesn't seem to be working out.

If we did do this, we could send the journals back to their original owners and they could use it for the private swap. I wouldn't mind hosting the private swap, but it would mean a commitment from anyone who really wanted to join.

I totally agree with Julie. I think it's better to find out who will participate and who's not intressted in participating any more. This way we all will be sure that we receive our own journal back at the end of the round robin. I'm very sad that ellen's and my journal are lost. Julie and I are together in an other round robin and it's all going so much easier comparred to this swap.

Okay, everyone, time to skip Molly and Suefitz. I can start a new journal or just continue working in the ones that come by me. I'm easy. Marieke, do you need the address to send to instead of Molly or do you have it already?

Isn't a good idea before going on with the circle to find out where every journal is the circle. And is everybody still intrested in doining this swap? I just want to make sure that we don't have to go to all these problems again. As you can see some people haven't posted to the group for a long time are these people still playing in the swap? I think setting up a private swap like Julie wrote about is a good idea. Than we're sure that the people are committed to this swap. Please everybody let us hear what your ideas are and what the best sollution is in your opinion? How do we have to go further from here. Sorry again for my english.

This is TERRIBLY embarrassing - but Ellen is already aware of this.

I do not want to drop out. I don't even know what to think any more!

I must be totally honest with you women. My job ended last month and I have had no income since April 13. I knew it would end, as it was a work study position thru school. I wasn't terribly worried as I was promised a significant amount of a debt owed to me. (yup, girls, I fell for the check's in the mail!)

I am pounding the pavement looking for work. I have had to cash in a small IRA just to keep my daughter and I afloat. I do not know when I can expect the check. I have exhausted my savings. My phone and internet have been shut off. I won't be able to check any msgs or postings until Tuesday when the public library reopens.

I still have 3 journals. The last 3 you sent to me. They are all done and ready to go - I'm just waiting for some more cash to cover the postage to Europe! what should I do? send on to Marieke? I think my journal is totally gone. Chelsea (who dropped out) sent it to Marieke back in early APril - she should've had it by now.

This swap has been the most disasterous one. VERY poorly thought out!!! I was angered when it changed but when I learned it had it was too late to drop out. I feel like my personal troubles are only adding to bedlam. Please know, my swap sisters - that I am not a flake and that I may be late in mailing this out due to my financial situation. It HAS to imporove - it just has to!

Good news. Today I finally received Jeanne's journal. I think I took forever becaurse it wasn't sent by airmail. But at least It's here, by the way I love the little box-thing Jeanne, great idea, I don't tell the rest. And you can sent the journals to me, I'm not a flake either, just worries about the whole swap. Take your time Jeanne and sent the journals to me when you can miss the money. Other things are more important for you at the moment. Or maybe you can sent the journals one by one if that's cheaper?

Haven't been checking because I thought the swap died someplace. I recieved a journal way back near beginning of swap and had sent out mine -- sent out the second ... end of story so far as I know except reading your comment just now. I'll be glad to stay in swap if there's some clarity about who to send to, it sounds like my original partners were okay, not flaking at all.

Two journals arrived today from Megan. I'll put them back in the "flow" by the end of next week. It's good to have a sense that this is moving again. Hurray!!

Hello ladies, I haven't been following the comment flow here, but I would still like to continue with the swap, though I have received anything since the first week. I believe I got one from Mercourier and sent hers and mine on to Meg within the first 7-10 of the swap. I have heard nothing of mine not have I received anything further from Mercourier. I would love to get mine back and also work on those that I have not yet received.

Julie do you have a scanner? If so can you please scan the pages I did, my scanner isn't working so I couldn't scan the pages ans I would like the have a copy for myself.

No, I didn't get a job but my sister got an unexpected bonus at work and said she will pay for this and future mailings to keep me in the loop!! gotta love those siblings!

still no job - but I am so much better spiritually and ever optimistic! I mean I have filled out so many apps and faxed my resume to countless scores of employers it can only be a matter of time. the law of averages just HAS to kick in sooner or later.

I really miss having internet access at home - it is hard to squeeze in everything I want to accomplish online when you only get 30 mins at the public library!
