Altered Book ATC

how many pages must you make? it would be nice if the book still fits in your ATC covers, I think.

There is no set amount of pages, but when I was making the swap, I was thinking that it would not be too thick to fit into a cover. In other words, make as many pages as you want, but try and keep it thin enough to fit into the plastic ATC sleeves.

WOW! now this sounds like fun! I'm in.

Can anyone tell me a good way to attach the ATC's together? I've made 4 pages till now, but I don't know a simple way to make it in to a book.

I've seen lots of book binding articles, and a cute way you could bind them in a book form is just to sew the ATC covers and the pages with a needle and thread. I would recommend using a large needle and thick thread, so it will last longer!!

An alternative would be to cut a piece of cardstock and make an accordian-fold book. You could glue the pages to the cardstock, and use a ribbon to keep it closed.

What are we putting in the books or are we leaving the pages blank?

You should definately do something creative with the pages. Don't just leave them blank! With altered books, the artists will paint, collage, stamp, draw, etc. all over the pages in the book they are altering.

Francis, Ill try to explin how I make mini books. This is what I did with my atc zines: I made the front and back covers with thin cardboard, then covered them with decorative papers. I then took a strip of card stock, abit smaller the width ot height of the ATS and made a mini accordian, little mountain folds if you will, one for each page.I then made my pages, and glued one page (just put glue on the back bottom of the page) and glued to onf the folds. The important thing is to leave enough of a "tail" one each end to glue on to your covers, the little accordian fold should be in the middle. I know it sound confusing. I'll see if I can make a tutorial in pictures, and put it up on my blogspot. Just give me some time to do this ok? This might make the book too thick for ATC holders, but you might want to learn how to make it for future uses. My zine was 11 pages long inside of 2 ATC covers! I also used a ribbon to tie it closed. It may not work for this project, but I;ll still get the tutorial made as soon as I can. I;ll post my blog spot when it's done. It'll be my first time ever making a tutorial. Who knows there might already be one out there already, I learned how to makit by looking at a book made in that format. wow, maybe the accordian page or sewing oages WOULD be easier for this! But I'll still make the tutrial for those interested. In any case, this is going to be a great little project! susi

Last night I made the pages for my altered book atc. The pages look like atcs themselves, only they are much more fragile. I don't have a theme, they are just "Off the wall" or "Out of hand" (one of these will be the title, or maybe one title for one, and the for the second. Anyway, I hope that it will be ok, i am fairly new to altered books, I've done one altered board book, another board book that I altered to put some of my art dolls in, and am working on another altered book at the present time. I wish i could scan some of the pages and send them to someone, just to get an opinion. I also am not sure how I a\will make these into a book, either sewing it together or using small jump rings, or making a book like I described above. AGH so many decions, and i am not even sure if it's any good yet! susi thanks for letting me vent, lol!
