About Me

02/16/24: Post to the US seems to be taking longer than usual. If you're waiting for something from me do get in touch as it will be on the way and I can give details. Likewise, if I've not rated it's because it's not arrived yet, but keep faith! It will get here eventually :)

Hello! I work in education and journalism I love the fact that so many people across the world work each day to help young people grow up to be the best possible adults.

I live in London which means I use lots of British stamps including ones of the Royal family!

My main loves are postcard and stamps, and I especially love getting messages about what's going on in the news/current events in your country.

I collect stamps. I especially love stamps that feature: - women - education - political events or politicians - elections - social issues - charities - seahorss But, honestly, I just think stamps are beautiful and tell such cool stories about their country that I don't really care what is on them.

Things I really like on postcards: - governments - politics - national events - the colour yellow! anything yellow! - odd or weird or ugly cards -seahorses

Some of my favourite postcards have been offbeat - fluorescent orange apes, photos of people taken in warped mirrors, jokes in other languages.

Other things I like: - pop music - foooood - random small museums (e.g. umbrella museum or butter museum)

But my ABSOLUTE FAVOURITE is if you can WRITE A LITTLE ABOUT SOMETHING THAT IS IN THE NEWS in your country: could be a big election, an environmental issue, or a small funny thing you saw recently. I really love the news.

Favorite Music

Greenday, Barenaked Ladies and...country music!

Favorite Movies

Harold and Maude, When Harry Met Sally, High Fidelity and all musicals!

Favorite Books

I don't really read fiction but I read LOTS of magazines and non-fiction - about stamps, science, life, decorating, art, music, film...anything that is real life!

Dislikes

Not a lover of cute animals. I like ugly and weird animals. You know, creepy ones that people won't go near or have never heard of.

Water. Terrified of it.

Sending Likes...

There is a place in my heart for anything you send but if you want to send me into a spin, here are my favourites:

  • Anything related to government: elections, politicians, government buildings, news items

  • Anything related to famous women: scientists, archaeologists, pilots, dancers, nurses, anything!

  • Anything about education: schools, universities, degrees, stationery, teachers, pupils, uniforms

  • Yellow! All yellow.

  • Unusual, weird, funny, bizarre cards.

  • Seahorses!

Beyond that I also like:

  • Food (esp national dishes)
  • Vintage postcards of towns/villages
  • Quotes from famous people

But most of all, if you are sending a postcard and there's any space:

Please write about something in the news in your country! It could be anything: a crime, politics, local news, celebrity news. I used to be a journalist and I just really like news :)

Comment: Laura! I want to shout out to you like meeting an old friend at the airport after a long time away :-) SO enjoyed this letter, thanks for the further exposition once you realized it was for me. And LOVED the garden catalog(ue) and special postcards. Yes, smelling flowers is one of my favorite parts of experiencing them. Jasmine is possibly my favorite flower in the scent category :-) So much more to say, i will need to write back ASAP! Wishing you well!

Comment: Thank you for the fab PCs I love them, thank you for not choosing touristy cards, I love them when they are sent as naked cards from the places they show but not as part of a swap that are sent blank. I'm especially happy as I have a first-class stamp to match the Monkey card that I can use. 😺 The envelope and the Star Wars stamp added a lovely extra. Thank you.

Comment: Thank you for all the lovely postcards. FYI, I received the swap in a USPS plastic bag as both ends of the envelope were open. The adhesive had not failed but the paper itself had torn. All the PCs you listed were still there.
Response: Thanks for letting me know. Royal Mail have introduced new machines which seem to be munching things that sent perfectly fine until a few weeks ago, will be rethinking my strategy going forward! Glad it all got to you anyway ❤️

Comment: thank you for the interesting letter, Laura. I appreciate the recommendations for both, the movie "Anatomy of a fall" - just watched the trailer, exciting! - and the book "Anita del Monte laughs last". Love the sound of the Polish language! I have been to Krosno and the southeast of Poland, very beautiful. See you in another swap!

Comment: Your letter arrived to Wisconsin safely! I enjoyed reading about your bank holiday. It’s so nice to have some time to spend just climbing life the way you’d like. I hope the ragu came out well. I enjoyed reading about your writing history! I love that you’ve kept the mini diaries and that you set that PO Box up during Covid. That was a fantastic idea!!

Comment: Thank you for the card! :-) Lol the artist definitely seems like an acquired taste!
Response: Still can’t fathom why I bought it 😂 Thanks for the heart regardless of its sheer ugliness!

Comment: Thank you for the nice choices. Your envelope did not fare so well in the mail system. The back flap was open, stamps ripped, and bent envelope corners. Ugh!
Response: Oh no, I picked the Whale stamp for you specifically and used my plainest envelope to try and avoid this - what a shame! Royal Mail has put in a bunch of new automated machines and they seem to be wrecking so many letters. 😔 At least the postcards made it to you!
