Hello! My name is Kaycee.
I am an 20-year-old college student who is a long-time dreamer, adventurer, and maker of things. I also happen to be completely enarmored with holidays and any sort of cultural affair.
I am working full-time as my aunt's caretaker at the moment and going to college for a bachelor's degree in Business Marketing and Communications. For transport, I enjoy driving my car, "Senor Gerald McNally III", to school or biking to the local nature center on "Starship Enterprise".
Myself (left) and my friend, Crystal (right) - yes, we are at Disneyland :)
I grew up in a world of fantasy, supernatural, and magic. As a young girl you could see me dressed like Belle from Beauty and the Beast while carrying Bram Stoker's Dracula and Tolkien's The Hobbit.
My ridiculously cheery and friendly personality is practically impossible to hide (not that I would anyways). My friends love to joke that I'm made of confetti and glitter and happy endings. Which I am, obviously, hahaha.
Lovely and elegant with a dash of morbid spice. I am the die-hard romantic who loves a wild adventure and isn't afraid to get her hands dirty.
My friend @jenniecide , and I finally got into Pottermore. I could have sworn I was in Hufflepuff (yay, badgers!), but alas I have been placed in the Lion's Den (kind of like Neville). If you have an account send a friend request to OakRose30994. :)
I'm also a bit of a nerd if you couldn't tell already. I enjoy being indoors and outdoors equally. Miss' Prepared, I am. I carry a first-aid kit and stamps in my purse religiously; should the day call for it I also carry ribbon and twine.
Update
I will not be joining any swaps for the next month or so. A good chunk of mail has gone missing on both party ends, and I mean to correct it immediately. All of my partners in this situation will be receiving a personal message with details.
On a personal note, my home is in chaos at the moment. My mother decided on a whim to move all of my things into our misc. room and left it all piled in bags and boxes to be rearranged. My roommate is also packing up for a move across country. It seems everyone has been hit with a late bite from the Spring cleaning bug.
Each swap is crafted with love and care - I'd love to keep all these pretty things I send out, but alas, they are off into caring hands.
Should you find that you have not yet been rated for a swap, please do not hesitate to contact me. Chances are it either hasn't arrived or has gone missing in the post. The same goes for not recieving my post.
(Scroll down to the 'Rather Not' section of my profile for allergies and things that will cause my nose to crinkle.)
My favorite story types/genres would have to be: fantasy, steampunk, historical fiction, fairy tales, and story-in-a-story. (I'm not sure if that last one makes any sense, haha.)
Sherlock (BBC), Merlin (BBC), Leverage (TNT), Once Upon A Time (ABC), Doctor Who (BBC), The Avengers (Marvel), Disney (Classic Animation), Frankenstein (Mary Shelly), The Hobbit (J. R. R. Tolkien), Lord of the Rings (J. R. R. Tolkien), Flowers for Algernon (Daniel Keys), Harry Potter (J. K. Rowling), Lord of the Flies (William Golding), Aubrey-Maturin Series (Patrick O'Brian), To Kill A Mockingbird (Harper Lee), The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes (Sir Arthur Conan Doyle), The Hunger Games (Suzanne Collins)
I absolutely adore bright, happy colors! Pastels and neons are not particularly cared for, but appreciated all the same. I've always lived in rented houses where the walls were beige. Hence, my love for colors with more pop.
Classic animated Disney characters are simply lovely. I also love the artwork created by Mary Blair, Kevin Kidney, Jody Daily, and Shag for the Walt Disney Company. My mother works for Disney, hence, the love for it!
Anything nautical! Ships are a love shared by my Grandpa and I. My grandfather was in the U.S. Navy as a navigator and gave me his old stamp collection. Any loose stamps with ships or sailors is deeply cared for.
The olympics are an amazing time to get together with family and cheer our favorite athletes on. My brother is an olympic weight lifter and thrower (hammer, weight, shot put, discus, etc.), so any olympic paraphernalia will definitely have me jumping up and down in excitement.
Board and card games are always so much fun! If you know any dice games message me! I've always wanted to learn. I love playing: Disney Trivia, Chess, Life, Clue, Black Jack, Old Maid, etc.
As for a definite 'rather not', I am severely allergic to olive trees. Please avoid sending anything that is made out of this plant. Olive oil and olives seem to be fine when used for cooking or on a pizza, so it's just the tree pollen I am allergic to. Thanks!
The smell of cinnamon makes my nose itch. It is very overpowering to my senses. Please try not to send anything with a powerful smell, as I will probably sneeze! This also goes for cigarette/cigar smoke (just about all tabocco products really). My asthma loves to flare up at the smell of smoke and freshly cut grass. Thanks again!
I adore just about every piece composed by Hans Zimmer, Howard Shore, John Williams, and Alan Menken. Non-English music is quite fun to listen to. Quirky, upbeat music always catches my interest, such as: Big Band/Swing, Folk/Traditional, Gypsy/Pirate. If you think I may like a song or two, email the title and artist to me or make a mix CD. It'd be really cool to hear some more cool beats!
I love creating new things!
I sew things by hand because my first (and only) sewing machine decided to eat the thread and bite my fingers. I will be trying again sometime soon I think. I want to make a hobbit costume for the movie coming out in December and it would be a real pain to attempt handstitching the entire ensemble.
Working with different sorts of fabric is fun! I adore making little pins and hair clips for family, friends, penpals, and swaps. Ribbon is a bit of an addiction. (Gosh, I need a job!)
I just recently learned what smash-booking was through this website and realized (not to sound terribly hipster) that I had been doing it for years! I am quite excited about this really! I thought I was the only one to journal in this way, hahaha.
As I have a ridiculous love for the holidays and many sorts of geekery, I am planning on opening an etsy shop this summer! It will have all sorts of said related items and I am nervous/excited to do so! The wreath pictured above was handmade by me - it's huge! (It's still hanging in my living room, whoops!)
If you have any of these items that you are willing to part with please send them my way. I will love them dearly.
