I am a weirdo...
I have a teenage son who was only a year old when I joined Swap-bot! I love animals and would like to have been a vet but know I would end up adopting all the strays and bawling at all the sad bits. I often prefer animals to human adults, they are just so much nicer! We have the cutest cat the in the work (naturally haha) called Maggie-Mae, and a Syrian Hamster called Marshmallow. Maggie is much more interested in Marshmallow than he is of her.
I would love to write books for children.
Another goal I dream about accomplishing is to study psychology and then progress onto child psychology. The workings of the human brain fascinate me! Unfortunately I am lacking the funds at this present moment, but you've gotta dream a dream, right?
We have recently moved to a suburb just a few minutes away from the beach (yay!), and the change of pace is awesome! Cape Town really is the most beautiful city :D
I currently work for myself from home, making tiny dollhouse food, figurines, fairy garden stuff, jewellery and other goodies from polymer clay.
I really enjoy being creative and dabble in a few different crafty hobbies. I am a very keen miniaturist and belong to our local Guild Of Miniatures, a group of truly amazing and talented people! I am learning a lot by attending the wide variety of workshops on offer. We make projects that I intend using to furnish and fill the Victorian Dollshouse (scale 1/12 inches) that I have been working on decorating, electrifying etc for the last 6 years or so. It is nearly ready to be lovingly kitted out with all the hoarded treasures I have been collecting and making over the last 20 years! One day I would like to create a creepy/ spooky dollhouse. I am drawn to weird and slightly macabre (with a cute or humorous twist) things.
I am quite into scrap and smashbooking, ATC's, art journalling, and magpie journals are SUCH FUN to put together as swaps as well! I just love all the cool supplies and amazing ways there are to showcase your memories. Paper crafts and collage are my jam!
I have been practicing my crocheting skills and love to make Amigurumi (so cute!), and ultimately I want to scale down the size I work in, to suit my miniature purposes. I have hopes of trying to earn a bit of cash by making goodies that other miniaturists simply have to have!
I also enjoy making personalised keepsake books as gifts for friends for special occasions. I have dabbled in fabric painting, graphic design, lino-cut prints, drawing, painting (again something I would like to have a go at in mini form), card making and I have also been building up my collection of ATC's. Making and sending them is a great creative outlet for me, as is messing around with acrylic, as well as, rubber stamps.
Anything Steampunk fascinates me and I am currently working on a 1 in 12 scale Steampunk gypsy-style caravan. Rockabilly is awesome too!
I have a lot of fun working with Polymer clay. The quirky jewelry items I make I have sold at craft markets, but now I mostly sell from my Facebook page as 'Tiny Shiny Delectable Collectables'. You can check out my work here: https://www.facebook.com/delectablecollectables/
Besides flexing my crafty muscles, I don't mind partaking in various forms of gentle exercise like walking and yoga, with the emphasis on GENTLE... I don't enjoy: cooking (but i do like baking) ironing, standing in queues, too much TV, cruel people, crowded places, canned laughter, insensitivity, cockroaches and chilli.
I like a lot of different artists and genres but some of my ultimate favourites include:
The Beatles, Everclear, Foo Fighters, AJR, Queen, Chris Cornell, System Of A Down, John Lennon, Blur, Offspring, Pixies, Soundgarden, Queens of the Stone Age, Dresden Dolls, Lily Allen, IAMX, Daughter, The Killers, Message To Bears, Of Monsters and Men, Cass Elliot....yes, music is very important to me, and feeds my soul.
There is nothing better than being able to get cosy in your nest with a great read, yummy snacks and an uninterrupted block of time! Some fave reads: The World According to Garp Confessions of a Bad Mother Lord of the Rings Return of the Native The Harry Potter books Dexter books Journey To The Centre Of The Earth Around the World In 80 Days The Bridget Jones books Autobiographies of interesting people any miniatures or scrapbooking mag books about psychology
Shows I can't resist: Friends (never gets old), Dexter, Doctor Who, Big Bang Theory, Modern Family Santa Clarita Diet Crime documentaries Favourite You Tubers And yup, Netlfix is my friend!
I am also collecting all of Tim Burton's movies. Incidentally i would love a copy of Tim Burtons book :"The Melancholy Tale of Oysterboy"! Just shamelessly putting it out there... (pre-loved is fine by me) ;)
