I am just beginning my first year as a middle/high school science teacher. While I am looking forward to having my own classroom, it also is completely terrifying.
I can be a rather random person: I bounce around topics when I talk and I bounce around among hobbies and projects fairly often.
I have a wonderful pet rat that I adore!
I love reading- mostly fiction (fantasy, science fiction, fanfiction, etc).
Some of my favorite reading books include:
- Artemis Fowl
- Harry Potter
- The Inheritance Cycle
- October Sky series
- Enders Game (first book only)
- Monster Hunter series
- Green Rider series
I also really enjoy comics, which I basically only read once they come out in treasuries.
Some of my favorite comics include:
- Calvin and Hobbes
- Foxtrot
- Farside
- Pearls Before Swine
- Get Fuzzy
- Mutts
I can be rather geeky when it comes to my television shows. I nowhere near that stereotypical 'fangirl' level and I will probably never attend an event for any show, but I do definitely spend an hour or more amusing myself with some internet thing related to a show occasionally.
That said, some of my favorite shows include:
- Doctor Who
- Sherlock
- Firefly
- Stargate SG-1
- Grimm
- Star Trek: TNG
- Merlin
- Leverage
- Supernatural
- Eureka
- Warehouse 13
- MASH
- Basically any documentary show with Attenborough
While I do watch movies, there just seem to be less of them that stick out in my mind than television shows.
Here are a few I can actually remember to mention:
- Little Shop of Horrors
- Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog
- My Life in Ruins
- The Day the Earth Stood Still (the original)
- Toy Story (1 through 3)
- Mulan
I enjoy basic quilting and have made a few quilts, but I do tend to work on a project in an on again-off again fashion. I love fabrics of all colors and patterns!
I also enjoy origami in a rather on and off fashion.
Occasionally I take photos for the a wordpress weekly photo challenge where you are given a theme to express.
Crude humor is not my thing, but I do appreciate other humor- especially sarcasm, irony, and wit.
I run/jog - but pretty casually and rather slowly. As long as I am not on the couch and hopefully a bit faster than a walk I am fairly happy.
Stickers rock! I have been savoring the idea of expanding my sticker collection to use on graded papers in my classroom.
Any fun classroom supplies are also appreciated. Nice pens, sharpies, colored masking tape, bulletin board decorations, etc are great!
Any neat science items, ideas, or activities you would like to share are great.
I enjoy puzzles- logic puzzles, regular puzzles, mind benders, bent nails, etc.
Card and board games also are fun! A few you should definitely check out are Flux, Chrononauts, Qwirkle, Set, Tri-bond, and Blokus.
I like earrings (for pierced ears), brooches, and other jewelry.
I collect coffee cup sleeves and would love to have some from new places! Any with your favorite cafe logo, or any fun/interesting ones you would like to send my way would be exciting! Please only clean ones :-)
I have also begun collecting bottle caps to hopefully one day use in making a table top. I would love some more diverse caps!
I enjoy cooking and baking. I like to try my hand at cakes and cake decorating fairly often.
I like to try a variety of foods, both homemade and in restaurants. Thai, Indian, Vietnamese, German- anything really!
Dark chocolate is the best!
I am addicted to good coffee!
Tea is also good! Fruity teas are usually a bit weird to me, but I am up to trying new ones.
Dragons are neat.
I like a great variety of animals: rodents, opossums, bowerbirds, mudskippers, birds of paradise, squids, snakes, amphibians, worms, spiders, slime molds, etc. Pretty much anything is cool with me. I have been rather hung up on mantis shrimp and pangolins lately, for example. Cats and dogs are nice, though I usually pick a more unique animal for something like a toy or sticker.
I do not have any allergies.
I am happy to receive about anything in a swap- it is more about the interaction than the item for me.
