Hello, my name is Ashley. I am a 35 year old wife and mother to six. I have recently started creating and journaling again. We moved to a pretty isolated area right before Covid hit, and I have been wanting to reach out and connect with others who share a love of creativity, stationery, journaling, hand lettering, calligraphy, etc.
I often feel like a scattered page novel with no real linear progression since I have hopped around in regards to careers and studies. I was an archaeologist, anthropologist, podcaster, cashier, and speaker. I am also starting to breed corgis after owning them for a number of years. The one main thread I would say is philosophy and classical studies.
I currently homeschool my children since we move often and the stability outweighs the time investment. Homeschooling also allows me to share my passion for global cultures and cuisines, art, history, mythology, and so much more with my children. One thing that I wish I didn't have is my sailor sass mouth...one too many bombs have been dropped.
I have an eclectic taste in regard to music. I prefer vinyl over digital as a general rule.
Classical: Philip Glass is my modern favourite.
Other favourites include: Radiohead, Tom Petty, The Doors, Pink Floyd, Weezer, Tori Amos, Band of Horses, Mumford and Sons, Bobby Vinton, Conway Twitty, and I listen to a lot of music from my Roma hertiage.
I read an awful lot of nonficiton on a regular basis; however, I was a prolific reader of ficiton in my school days. I even read my entire middle school and high school libraries...I had a friend or two I swear...LOL
Favourite genres: mystery, mythology, philosophy, psychology, spirituality (anything really) , ethnographies, classical studies.
Favourite authors: Agatha Christie, Matt Haig, Anais Nin, Henry Miller, Henry James, Ayn Rand, Ken Follet, Arturo Perez Reverte.
I also love to read cook books!
Journaling and commonplacing have been a main stay throughout my life. I have recently gotten into collaging and junk journaling.
I am also starting to learn how to draw and paint with watercolor/ gauche.
Paper crafts, lettering, and letter writing are also a common way to spend a Saturday afternoon.
I love the idea of looking at someone's profile and building a swap that will spark joy. It seems pointless to send something that would not be enjoyed.
Some themes I love:
-vintage ephemera
-Astrology, crystals and galaxy
-vintage botanicals/ animals
-Vintage lace, floral and tea time, coffee
-Gothic, spooky
-Travel and international
-Books
-William Morris designs
-kawaii themed and Asian designs
