About Me

My name is Becky, I’m currently living in a sleepy little village in the east of England by the sea, although up until recently I was living in London and studying fine art/photography (now officially an art school drop out though as I left to become a mental health nurse). I’m twenty-one, and when I’m not writing essays on medical ethics I spend most of my time being outside and creative.

I love vintage fashion and objects, visiting little tearooms, writing letters, yoga and collecting pretty things (thrift shop finds, floral fabrics, art cards, stationary, notebooks, etc). I knit, sew, write a lot, bake bread and cakes, take many photographs and am trying to read my way through a very big bookcase of books.

Favorite Music

Lots of jazz, especially Billie Holiday at the moment. And lots of others, mostly acoustic-y songwriter sort of stuff - Mumford and Sons, Damien Rice, Ray Lamontagne, Bon Iver/Justin Vernon, Bob Dylan, Regina Spektor, Alexi Murdoch.

Favorite Books

There are so many! My reading material ranges from Roger Deakin to Dorothy Whipple to Henry Miller to Miranda July to Nabokov - I don't think I'm very consistent! I've just finished reading The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, which I loved, and my absolute favourite thing to read is The Norman Conquests by Ayckbourne, Miranda July stories and any Patrick Marber play.

Favorite Movies

Me and You and Everyone We Know, Snow Cake, Someone Else, Amelie, Lost in Translation, My Blueberry Nights, Marie Antoinette, Enduring Love, Closer, The Misfits, Away We Go, Look Who's Talking, The Door in the Floor, Wimbledon.

Wishlist

  • Postcards from other places, cities, cultures, etc.
  • Photographs (of anything, but especially personal ones with a story)
  • Anything vintage/from the past always wins my heart
  • As does handwritten letters
  • Hair clips/curlers/bows (My hair has just been cut into a very short 1920s style bob so I'm not too sure what to do with it!)
  • Stationary/stickers
  • Rubber stamps
  • Tea
  • Ribbons (grosgrain or velvet!)
  • Paperback books
  • Not quite sure how describe these, but I've started collecting little metal figures. The kind that look a bit like monopoly playing pieces - I have Buddha, Ganesh and a squirrel so far. Just thought I'd mentioned it because it's a good example of liking strange little trinkets!
  • Foods from other places, the only thing I can think of that I don't like is white chocolate. Aaanything else, I'll try and probably like it!
  • Recipes
  • Anything handmade
  • Flower or botanical related things - fabric, paper, postcards, drawings, pressed flowers, etc.
  • Origami things/papers

Comment: I never received anything, this is the second ransom note type swap I have been in and both times I have been flaked on, very disappointing.

Welcome to the Crafting Queens!

I'm so jealous! They randomly played on of their songs on a college radio station up here, and I googled every lyric I could remember from that song. SOO good! :)

Hey! Thanks for joining the Newbie Pen Pal swap. :) Hopefully it'll be as fun as I think it will be. ~Rebekah
