Hello all! My name is Andy and as you can probably tell from my handle I'm from Mississippi. I'm a former drama student and currently a chef. I'm engaged to a wonderful crafty lady (CraftyApple on here). I'm interested in all kinds of creative endeavors from writing to home brewing sodas and wine making. I'm a bit of a sculptor and an amateur painter. Recently I've gotten into puppetry, but I haven't really made anything yet.
Likes:
I'm a huge nerd. I love science fiction. Things in the vein of Asimov's Foundation series and Rendezvous With Rama fascinate me, but I can enjoy some fairy tale fluff like Star Wars as well. Ghostbusters was my absolute jam as a kid.
Older cartoons like Thunder Cats, Fox's X-Men Cartoon, The Real Ghostbusters, and even obscure titles like Project Geeker or Cadilacs and Dinosaurs I absolutely adore.
When it comes to comics I prefer mor eindependant products like Hellboy and BPRD to the current state of the Marvel universe. Never really cared for DC outside of the Kyle Rayner run of Green Lantern and some one off Batman stuff.
Any Jim Henson product is on top of my pile of favourites. I was practically raised on things like Labyrinth and Dark Crystal.
Subtler fantasy in the style of Tolkien (actually in his style not what most people call Tolkienesque) and Anne McAffrey are my favourites, but I can foray into more high fantasy things like Terry Pratchett's work. The Dragonlance series (especially the earlier works) hold a special place in my heart. Urban fantasy I can take or leave. I like Jim Butcher and Diana Rowland, but not much else.
I'm a table top gamer. I am usually the game master when I get to play and I'll run anything from Urban sci-fi to political fantasy horror mash-ups. I've played everything from AD&D to FATE and Savage Worlds.
Dislikes:
Not really a fan of "fairy tales". I don't mean like folklore and the like (which I find facinating), but the fairy tale aesthetic doesn't hold much sway for me.
Glittery and cutesy aren't in my repertoire either.
Dusty pastel colors actually make my skin crawl.
