Hi, I'm Mia! I am a stage manager, meaning I work backstage on theatre shows, making sure rehearsals run smoothly, everyone is safe and all props and set changes are ready for shows. This means I spend quite a lot of time away from home, working on shows elsewhere. In my spare time I love reading, exploring green spaces and watching theatre shows. I have a degree in Ecology from Bangor University, so have spent quite a lot of time in North Wales, and really enjoy doing and learning more about conservation and environmental research. I really enjoy doing postcard swaps, I have a massive collection from buying postcards wherever I go and my family and friends getting me postcard packs for birthdays and christmases. I love to use people's profiles to pick out the postcard(s) i think they'd really enjoy, or ones I think may be different from their current collection. My favourite postcards are weird, whacky, strange shapes, designs, very specific or odd!
I love anything interesting and different. I recently read Butter by Asako Yuzuki and Ella Minnow Pea by Mark Dunn and both have really stuck by em for different reasons. I love books that comment subtly on society through people's lived experiences. How society treats queer people, women, it's own citizens etc and how that changes based on the actions of a few people. I also enjoy young adult fiction and classics, but get less of a feeling of satisfaction and intrigue when I finish these books, rather than something that's modern fiction or speculative fiction. My absolutely most favourite book is A Beautifuly Foolish Endeavour by Hank Green.
My three favourite movies are: Fantastic Mr Fox, I really beautifully crafted movie with messages of anti-capitalism and looking after the earth, as well as some really brilliant editing choices and found family dynamics. St Trinians, a chaotic and thrilling 2 film series, with girls getting revenge and causing havoc, whilst living together in a boarding school. The Princess Bride, two lovers go through hell and back to be together, and along the way collect a group of rag-tag friends, who were initially contracted to kidnap one of them. Lots of cool cameos and great gags.
