UPDATE!!
I have a watchlist of swaps that I will be completing during the month of July, then I'm taking a short hiatus to focus on my delivery August 3rd. Hopefully he will stick to the schedule, but if there is an early delivery, I'll let any swaps I am currently in know of any delay in shipping. Just thought I'd give a heads up. Not flaking or planning to, I just don't want to miss a send deadline while in the hospital :)
BACK TO THE USUAL PROGRAMMING...
Hi! Well, I'm a recent BA graduate of Kent State University. Majored in International Relations and Applied Conflict Management. I'm the proud mother of a wonderful 8 year old girl and soon to be born son. My husband and I recently moved to the Boston area (his home town) from Akron, Ohio (my home town), so I've found myself a bit lonely and disconnected from the big city life. I hope that through swap bot, I can make some new friends and share my passion for cute and occasionally useful stuff.
When it comes to music, I'm pretty much all over the place. I love country (both classic and some modern) and classical music (used to play in the orchestra in high school, but I still play when I have time :) Not a huge fan of the stuff that is coming out now, although I do like Dave Matthews Band, Jack Johnson, Dala, Train, and Smashing Pumpkins. I also love regional music like bluegrass, blues, jazz, and both traditional Japanese and modern J pop. Pretty much if its good, I'll give it a try. No rap or R&B though!!
Hmm Books. I have a slight book addiction. Classics from Byron, Edgar Allan Poe, and Bronte. Manga of all kinds. Children's books, especially fairy tales from around the world. Scary books, mysteries, and light hearted. I have read the twilight series like most of the world's population and the host. Recently finished a new personal favorite Freedom, the sequel to the Daemon (loved it!!!) Before we moved, I lived in the library pretty much. The library was our weekend outing and during college they practically had to kick me out! I even enjoy reading textbooks. I also end up finishing cover to cover before we even hit midterms. I'm such a nerd.
I'm kinda combining movies and television because I watch them both from the same source (the interwebs). I absolutely love anime, but my taste has matured from the times when I would get my japanese fix on anything thing with pink hair to a more refined sense of plot and character development. Like everything else in my life, no genre is taboo for me. Everything from Akira, Evangelion, and Ghost in the Shell to Eden of the East, Kogepan, Hello Kitty, Anitique Bakery and the -no naku koro ni series (umineko and higurashi). I don't do dubs as being used to speaking Japanese its weird to see mouths moving, but English coming out :P
American TV is pretty much limited to Sci fi, 70s-80s cartoons and shows, and a sprinkle now and then of lost (thank god its finally over!)
Foreign films, Independent, and Sci fi are also my favorites. I usually don't follow fads, although I do find that things I liked years ago then come up as popular now (grr emo vampires!!!!)
Photography, sewing, quilting (I'm a noob), scrapbooking, drawing, coloring, crocheting, stamping, stained glass, pottery, and mixed media stuff. The stained glass and pottery are on hold until we get a nice house to set up a studio for me. Can't have a newborn crawling over glass. Right now, I'm working out of minimal conditions until we settle here. I've commandeered the dining room as my craft area until our son is born in August. Then we start looking for a bigger place to put all my craft babies in.
Favorite colors: Blue and Green (not a huge fan of pink, but I like pastels and neutrals/earthy colors too)
Housing style: I'm a big fan of clean, natural, and comfy. woods and whites/ creams, then I pile all my various interests on top of that. More of a forest cottage kind of girl (its killing me to be so far away from greenery here in the big city!!!)
Characters and themes: I love chococat and other sanrio/Q- Lia characters( foods with cute faces on them...), also cute woodland animals and dragonfly. (I am not a fan of spiders. They freak me out!). Space stuff, gardening, hedgehogs, badgers, wolves, video games, and sciencey things are great. Japanese and Parisian stuff are also on the good list. No Jungle themes, thanks.
Food allergies: cheese, nuts, and mushrooms ( although I do love cute pictures of mushrooms). Everything else is fine. Love bacon!!!!! and salad...oh and desserts
I hope this helps when swaps are matched up. I appreciate everything I receive as much as I love to see people enjoy what I give. I'm hoping that throwing out a few ideas will help make the process successful for both sides.
I'm still a noob, but I figured since I've done a few, I'd say what you can expect out of me.
First, I will only ever have 5 swaps on my plate at a time. I think thats plenty enough without getting burned out. All the other swaps I plan to join are on my watchlist and I only join them when I have a free slot. I know other people love joining a bunch at a time, but honestly, I think its a bit silly. I'd rather be confident in finishing the swaps I'm on before I add more and sometimes, I find that swaps I thought were cool really don't appeal to me after putting a lot of time into another swap.
With that said, I don't start on a swap until partners are made. That way I can customize what I want to do to what they are interested in. Unless it's sender's choice for an arbitrary thing.
I've had one experience so far that has taught me... do my own mailing. i.e. Hubby knows nothing about international shipping :( I won't mark items sent unless I have put them in the mail myself. I also try to get them done in the same week that partners are assigned. If there is any problem, expect to be contacted. I know I hate waiting around for something only to find out it was never even shipped.
Expect to be rated same day I get the package. I rate five if its on time with stuff in it. I'm not quite sure why there is no 4....... Would be nice to have if its complete, but late. Or on time, but not complete.
Once I get a few more swaps under my belt, I'll try hosting some of my ideas. please feel free to send me constructive criticism and comments, so I can learn and get better at this. I'm always happy to hear where I can improve in the future :)
