I am new to Swap-Bot, so please point me in the right direction, as I feel a little confused with how things are done here. But I am a quick learner and I have hostessed swaps and have swapped a lot, a few years ago, in other places on the internet. I enjoy meeting and getting to know other quilters from other areas in the world.
Hi, I am a stay home wife/mother/quilter, from Orange Park, FL.
My Husband is a trucker, so he is gone most of the time. So I try to fill up my life and time with lots of things. My children, going to church, with my animals, and a lot of my time with making quilts.
My husband is still my best friend, and is very supportive of all of my obsessions, especially quilting. He is a fun loving type of guy, and he works so hard to support his family. We are all non-smokers.
My children, are 21 and 17. My daughter works full time, and goes to school full time. She is a very busy person. I don't know how she does it, but she does. My son is still in High School, and enjoys a lot of sports, and is very girl-crazy. Aren't all teenage boys?? :)
We have 4 dogs, and 3 horses. We enjoy going to horse shows (barrel racing) on the Saturday nights. I try to ride and go trail riding at least 2-3 times a week. My hips are bad, so it is hard to walk sometimes. But riding seems to be very good therapy for me and I always feel good afterward, but I never over exert myself. My son is very into his horse, Coco, and loves to ride with me.
About Quilting, I consider myself to be an intermediately skilled. I have been quilting for over 10 years, but there is always so many new things coming out to learn, I don't think I will ever be an expert. :)
I learned a lot from my Grandmother and Great Aunt Hester when I was younger, and then the rest is self taught.
I enjoy making lots of different types of
quilts. I find that I make more Novelty type or
Themed Quilts. I have made a lot of I Spy type
quilts or Themed quilts, if I may... Jars, and Boot
blocks, Advent Calendar type quilts.horse Ice Cream cone quilts, Hot Air balloons, Monsters, Fairies. etc. etc
I really like to make 12" blocks that have a certain size middle with a novelty charm in the middle of it, like Churn-n-Dash blocks. The center is 4.5" and just the right size for a novelty type fabric..and a tone-on-tone fabric to match, make a really cute block, and even a nicer quilt.
My favorite techique? ...I like paper-piecing, strip piecing, but my real love is Needle-turn applique. I just love it, I have a take along project that I take to Doc appointments, of all red "hearts", all different kinds of reds. I have been working on it for years...LOL, not sure when I will think that I have enough, I just enjoy having it to take along to work on.
Fabrics I really like and collect are ~ I collect Candy and Food Fabrics, and of course, Horse Fabrics. And lots of Tone-on-Tone fabrics. I collect Red, white, and blue tone-on-tone or print Fabrics, too. Jewel-toned Batiks, and 1930's repro print fabrics. and last but not least, I love med to Large Floral fabrics.
My current projects are~ I have several in the works. I am the type I will work on one for a little while, then work on another for a little while, then go back to the first one. I actually get a lot more quilts done this way, but every once in a while, one will become a UFO, cause I have run into a snag on something with one of them.
What I am working on right now....
1.)I am currently working on collecting Horse themed fabrics for a Memorial Quilt (which is a Horse-themed Quilt) for a dear friend of mine who's husband just passed away in Dec. I have made 2 memorial quilts before this one. One was a "fish" themed quilt and the other was a "fairy" themed quilt.
I have pics of the Fish Themed Memorial Quilt in my Flickr Photos, if you would like to see some of my quilts and projects, please click on the link above to view some of them.
2.) I am also working on a BOM that my local quilt shop is offering called Star Soup in Batiks. Making mine with Kona Black for the background, so the colors should pop when it is done. Should be awesome when completed! I am really excited about this one.
3.) I also have too many UFO's, I am trying to complete one of them every other month or so. ...after all these years, I finally found a way to organize my UFOs that works for me, so it should be easier to complete some of them.
I only make tops and send them out to be
quilted at the local Quilt shop. I used to have a short arm sewing machine, with a Grace Quilt frame set up, but I found that I really didn't enjoy the actual quilting of the tops, as much as I enjoy making the tops. So I guess I am considered a "Topper" and not an actual "Quilter", LOL!!!
I don't really have a favorite color, or
manufacturer of fabric. I like them all, and some a lot more than others, just depends on what project I am working on at the time, AS long as they are 100% cotton, and feel like silk. :)
...and the only ones that I find that I really don't like are PLAIDs and POLKA-Dots, or fabrics that you can see-thru. Just don't like them.
I am looking forward to making and getting to know new friends and swapping with everyone.
Thank you, Kim
We enjoy listening to all types of music. My favorite is Country. In my family, there always seems to be a radio on playing music of some sort. I would rather have the radio on than the TV. My kids have grown up listening to music, more than TV. And when I am by myself in the house, I really love listening to Celtic Flute music, so relaxing.
