Love pottering and fiddling with arty crafty stuff and words. Am trying to find the ARTIST/AUTHOR within ME, after retiring from a career as an art teacher (during which time I was engaged in finding the artist within others).
I do not sign up for a lot of swaps, and I do not flake. It sometimes takes a long time for the postman to get my mail from me (in South Africa) to you - but if you've waited a reasonable time and nothing's arrived, please let me know and I will re-send.
My taste in music is very eclectic - but what really draws me is the raw-sounding grass-roots, unsophisticated folk music of people all over the world.
I watched Rocky I about five times, I think. The story is a metaphor for my life: get knocked down, keep on getting up! Perseverance conquers! Shawshank Redemption has the same message - probably why it is also one of my favourites.
Do have a look at my Crafts 'n Stuff page on my website!
I like beading, knitting, embroidery, paper crafts, designing computer graphics, dollmaking, altered books, writing, patchwork. I like rich and gaudy, bright colours or earthy, ethnic from all over the world, folk art, primitives. As Picasso said: "Good taste is the enemy of creativeness"
I've been enjoying Facebook. I am getting to know family members who live too far away to meet in person, and I keep in touch with people I know from l-o-o-o-n-g ago.
I always rate the very day I get your mail - unless there is a real problem. I do not give hearts just because you've thrown in something extra, but for the overall love, care and attention that I sense from the way that you approached and packaged the whole thing.
Please do not send me ephemera or bits and pieces for scrapbooking or making ATCs - it will take me a lifetime to use up all the stuff I've hoarded! My husband gets scared every time I receive an envelope - he thinks my swapping will eventually leave us with no space to live.
A friendly, personal note included with your send is always appreciated.

Erna, thank you and thank you for sharing your husband's website. Firstly, he is a true artist. The elements of surrealism and the social commentary in his work is very powerful. One day, and soon I pray, he will be recognized for his genius. His style in some of his works reminds me of some of the Mexican muralists that I love so much. His use of color, his arrangement of icons, all great, great work. I am indebted to you for having share it. Thank you again.
The Writer's Block Cafe is open for business. Grab a cup of coffee or tea, have a seat, post your literary work, and discuss.
Thanks for being apart of the group
