Hi!
I’m Brooklyn, from central Illinois in the United States. I’m 30 and newly single, a hamster mom to Coach Frank. Coach is my best friend, aside from Nikkole my human best friend.
I’m a part time cashier in a grocery store in town by day, but by night I’m a writer. I like to write poetry, and I like to read poetry. I love reading anything really, especially Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings.
I collect quotes and lyrics from songs I love, lines from movies I love, and positive foreign phrases, like quotes but in foreign languages. Send me your favorite quotes and I’ll cherish them forever!
I also collect tattoos, which is kind of an expensive hobby. So far I have 6. Both feet are covered, along with both ankles.
I love Christmas. Hallmark Christmas movie season is the best time of the year. I’m a very generous person, and I love spreading joy to people. I was trained from a young age to wrap presents the Von Maur way since both my parents used to work at Von Maur. The secret is that you use a good amount of tape.
My favorite tv show is the Price is Right. I also watch Let’s Make a Deal daily. I’m also an HGTV junkie. Say Yes to the Dress is another favorite. I like to get inspired for my future wedding, since I’m a hopeless romantic.
I am a huge fan of My Strange Addiction. I’ve only seen it a few times, but when I see it I get really into it. My favorite episode was the one about the guy who was addicted to eating bullets and wine glasses. I also like the one about the girl who’s addicted to eating mattresses. I don’t know if there’s a theme here, but I like episodes about people being addicted to eating or drinking something. I don’t know what that says about me. I’ve battled a self injury addiction since I was 12. I haven’t self injured in 7 years, and my last suicide attempt was 5 years ago. I like addictions I can relate to.
I also like what I’ve seen of Degrassi: The Next Generation. Admittedly, I never had the channel it was on growing up, but I used to watch it at my friend’s house all the time. My favorite character is Ellie Nash because I could relate to a lot of what her character went through. Also I loved that she had Ferret Bueller, but I was distraught when he was killed off the show. Ferret Bueller deserved better. In terms of male characters, I always gravitated towards Marco, Spinner, and JT.
I’m a huge Disney/Pixar fan. My favorite animated Disney movie is Fantasia. My favorite Pixar movie is Soul.
My favorite movie is Titanic. My favorite Christmas movies are: The Holiday, It’s a Wonderful Life, and Polar Express. My favorite actor is Jack Black and my favorite actress is Kate Winslet. My favorite musical movie is Across the Universe.
I’m a huge Disney/Pixar movie buff. I used to work for Disney, so I have a lot of insider information about the movies.
I love Studio Ghibli. My favorite Studio Ghibli film is Spirited Away, followed by Kiki’s Delivery Service, followed closely by Princess Mononoke.
My favorite singer is Frank Turner. He’s British, and he’s been my favorite since late high school, early college. He falls into the genre of folk punk, which is my favorite genre currently. I also listen to all of Frank’s friends like Nathan Gray, Beans on Toast, Ben Marwood, and Frightened Rabbit.
I also listen to emo music as well, that’s my other go to genre. My Chemical Romance, the Used, Dashboard Confessional, Mayday Parade, Hawthorne Heights just to name a few.
I also love the Beatles. My favorite Beatle is John Lennon. I don’t trust people who don’t like the Beatles.
I love Pink Floyd too. I’m a big Roger Waters fan, and I love the artistry of their music videos. A lot of the concept albums I love are by Pink Floyd. I’ve sadly never seen the remaining members in concert, but my Uncle Joe has. He told me about the flying pigs who roam through the crowd. They put on a good show, according to Uncle Joe. I’ve talked a lot in therapy in college about Pink Floyd and what they mean to me. Ideally I’d like a Pink Floyd tattoo someday. The problem is I don’t know which one to get first.
My parents wanted me to grow up as a strong, independent female. They raised me on Alanis Morissette, Indigo Girls, and Melissa Etheridge. I also later learned about Pink, Avril Lavigne, and Michelle Branch.
I like sea shanties, contemporary folk, and ska. I’m not as knowledgeable about rap, but I’m willing to learn. I like country, and I love musicals and soundtracks to movies. The Juno soundtrack is my favorite movie soundtrack. American Idiot is my favorite musical.
My favorite things to read in a letter are below:
*mail tags *open ended questions *peppermint tea *oolong tea *black tea *postcards *quotes *lyrics *phrases in foreign languages *Bible verses
My hamster’s name is Coach Frank, and he’s named after a human with the same name who was my high school gym teacher who died in 2020. The human had complications from a heart attack. He was one of the most incredible men I’ve ever known. The human led the US Paralympic wheelchair basketball team to win a gold medal in Beijing, China. The hamster has the same personality as the human and the same food motivated attitude. The hamster also has an Instagram.
I am a Christian, and I’d love to hear your prayer requests! When you write to me, please feel free to share your favorite Bible verse, Bible story, or VeggieTales episode. What was your favorite silly song from Silly Songs With Larry? Have you been on any mission trips? Tell me about them. What shatters your heart and creates a passion for ministry? I also like learning Bible verses in other languages. Share your favorite Bible verse in your native tongue.
I’m bisexual and a feminist. I am an activist for many reasons. I believe Black Lives Matter, and I’m an advocate for marriage equality. I don’t just mean gay marriage. In the United States, if a disabled person gets married, they lose their disability benefits. That is the reason many disabled people are not married. I think people with disabilities should be able to marry without losing their benefits. I also believe in animals rights, however I do not support PETA. That particular organization sexually exploits women and lesbians in order to save the animals. That’s just one reason I don’t like PETA. There’s also another organization called the Animal Liberation Front, and I don’t support them either. They’re considered eco terrorists by the government, since they literally bomb buildings and kill people to save the animals. Their message I like, but I can’t get behind literally killing people to save animals.
I’m a huge Chicago Cubs fan. One of the highlights of my baseball fandom was meeting Anthony Rizzo in the dugout before a game at Wrigley Field with my family. He had agreed to meet my family because my brother Jake was battling cancer at the time. Anthony was a nice guy, and he answered all our questions. We asked him about what it was like to go from college ball to the MLB, and he said he didn’t know because he was drafted straight out of high school. I was with my grandma at her house when the Cubs won the World Series in 2016.
I was born with a cleft lip and palate. Because of this, my taste is reduced, and I have never been able to smell. I have a noticeable speech impediment, and I have some dental implants. I’ve had at least 11 major surgeries to correct the cleft lip and palate, and my face was used in a textbook recently written by two of my surgeons. The purpose of using my picture was to show future doctors what a pretty smile looks like. So I guess I have the textbook example of a pretty smile!
Here’s a list of things I like if you’re still not sure: Dreamcatchers Joshua trees Flamingoes Keys (especially old fashioned keys) Hamsters Christmas The Nightmare Before Christmas Tim Burton movies Pumpkins Magic: The Gathering (I’d love a Black Lotus) Heroclix Rain Vinyl records Pinterest Tattoos
