Description: | |
The best way to try a new technique is on something small, like a quiltie. If you're new to quilting this is a good way to try a traditional [or new] block before you make a batch of them for a bigger quilt. Also a good way for those who have quilted to spread your wings -- try applique, embellishment, paper piecing, collage, an art quilt. The picture here shows two postcards with a central picture [the bird] from one fabric and the borders sewn on log cabin style using selvages off fabrics. They could have been quilties instead of post cards. So for this swap: make a quiltie --- size, less than 15" and bigger than 6^ square [could be rectangular]. It will have batting inside, a backing and be bound or you can apply the backing "pillowcase style" and if you don't know what that is, ask in the comments and I'll explain) Also write your name on the back or on a label. Also add a brief note telling your partner what technique is new to you. You'll have one partner and three weeks to make it. This is a group swap so all group members are eligible, and that means it's international. Rate your partner of sending a completed quiltie, not on perfection of execution. Of course, you can begin sewing as soon as you sign up if you wish even before partners are assigned. |
