Description:

Do you go the extra mile for your swap partners, but let your own projects go by the wayside? Do you have trouible doing things for yourself when there is no deadline?

Yeah. Me too.

It is time to take care of OURSELVES, and this swap is going to help us do it!

There are 2 steps to this swap:

  1. Choose a small, quick project that is for YOU, and describe it briefly in the comments section below. Gifts for others are not permitted. Swaps for partners are not permitted. This is for YOU. It can be anything. I am purposely leaving this very general because we all have such different needs and wants and talents. Choose something small that can be completed in a week or two. It does not have to be a craft item! Give yourself a pedicure...go to the movies by yourself...make time to read a book you have been eyeing...organize your swap-bot supplies.

  2. By the deadline, you will send your partners an email with the following: your swap name and the name of this swap; a picture of the completed item (or a link to pictures on Flickr or similar site); and a short email telling your partners about the item and why you wanted it, how you did it, and any struggles or challenges you had in completing it.

This will be a series if there is a demand for it. I am doing a quick project for the first swap, but we can have longer deadlines and bigger projects later on. I am a new host so please give me your feedback!

OK, here is my project: I bought myself seat covers for my car last year. Really pretty ones! I put the passenger side one on right away, but the driver's side one needed a slight alteration. I measured and pinned it, then promptly put it away. Every day I burn my legs on my blazing hot leather seat because I haven't fixed the seat cover yet. My passengers ride in style...but not me. No more! I deserve a pretty seat cover and to not burn my butt.

I prefer fewer partners, because it's hard for me to keep track (not a criticism, you just asked for opinions) But I am in either way!

TeePeeMaiden 08/ 2/2011 #

Would it be ok if I put my picture in my flickr? I don't know how to send it to anyone.

quiltncat 08/ 2/2011 #

Yes, flickr is fine. Probably preferred, so we don't have to have attachments in our emails. Great point, thanks! And @hollycm6 we will probably have less than 20, depending on who joins.

TeePeeMaiden 08/ 2/2011 #

Thanks for your reply. I will join I have to think about what I want to do for me.

Toupti 08/ 2/2011 #

I was hesitant to join the swap because I'm on vacation and often on the road so not much craft time. Then I figured this was just another excuse to postponed making something for myself as I'll always work for swaps and friends first.

Now, joining this swap, no option... gotta work for ME !!! ;-)

So, I'll be making this Letter Needle Book that I've been wanting to try for so long but been to afraid to not be good enough. Now I have to try at least ! ;-)

BTW... maybe less partner is a good idea just for rating purposes. If anybody forgets to include swap bot name in the email, it's going to be hard to track down.

I just signed up - I purchased fabric to make new curtains for my bedroom several months ago. It is still sitting on the craft room table waiting to be ironed, cut and sewn. I haven't even taken measurements of the windows! This swap will be a great excuse to finally get it done!

This month, I am trying to clean up my basement (which happens to be my sewing/crafting room). For this swap, I will take one little area and do before and after photos of the clean-up.

I am in. I am moving on the first of Sept. I tend to procrastinate and do everything else. I am taking the time and going through things and packing properly for this move. Then my craft area can be set up faster. :)

I make jewelry for people all the time. So often I think wow, I should make one of these for myself but never do. This time...this one's for me. thanks for the inspiration! ~Linda

I'm a gamer, and tend to wayside my quest for the end of a game so that my boyfriend can relax and watch TV when hes not working. When he is, I'm either cleaning or making swaps/twitter giveaways. But, I'm finally going to finish that pesky game thats been haunting me!

I may change my mind and remember something better that Ive been avoiding.

mermaidery 08/ 5/2011 #

Can't edit, but Ive decided to read a book. Theres so many I have to read!

quiltncat 08/ 8/2011 #

OK based on a few comments here and elsewhere, I have edited the number of partners down to 5. The reason I put 20 is because I personally would LOVE to see everyone's results, not just my partners'. So if anyone does not get me as a partner, but would like to share anyway, please do! You can find me at my screen name at yahoo.

It is great to see everyone's projects so far!

I want to make myself a small kawaii panda felt plushie. I've been making plushies for everyone else and I want one for me now :)

Michelle37 08/ 8/2011 #

I've had a yard of fabric I love for months but I've been putting off using it to make a small tote bag. So now I can finally get that done.

One question though, should this swap be type 3 instead? Even though we are just emailing a picture of the results, there is a craft element and a lot of effort involved in this swap. Just wondering about that.

JBolech 08/12/2011 #

Oh I'm so glad I found this swap - no more excuses for not getting this done! My craft room/guest bedroom has been a mess for who knows how long, but I can never seem go get around to cleaning the whole thing up. I've done little areas here and there, but it always just gets messy again. It's especially bad right now because I helped host a scrapbooking bridal shower last weekend and pulled out ALL of my scrapbooking supplies to bring. Now they are just sitting around in piles. It will be SOOO nice to have it all straightened up again :)

Toupti 08/15/2011 #

In the end, I realize that I would love to see everybody's project too. So feel free to email me : touptiswap at hotmail.com if you want to share. ;-)

heavenscreations 08/15/2011 #

So everyone knows I will be posting my pics in Flickr as well so that everyone can have a peak...My basement is the worst

heavenscreations 08/21/2011 #

As a few things have changed so did a priority so it is my swap...getting ALL laundry done, sorted and put away...My oldest comes home on the first

Moominbrooke 08/22/2011 #

OK! I finally narrowed it down: I have been going to ETSY and ogling the Steampunk inspired fabric and mixed-media wrist cuff images by edmdesigns ever since they appeared aeons ago. No two re alike, and I have gathered up all sorts of objects that would work really nicely. They're not that big a project, I just gotta do it for Me. Now, Finally, you've provided me a deadline! :0) Whee!

quiltncat 08/22/2011 #

Hey, no problem with changing your project! I am adding one myself - I am making myself a cute little makeup bag in addition to fixing my seat cover. Although, my car didn't start today so the seat cover may need to be scrapped depending on the prognosis for my poor little car!

JBolech 08/23/2011 #

I'm going to have to change my project too. I was unexpectedly out of town all weekend due to a family emergency, so now there's no way I can get my disaster area of a craft room cleaned up in time for the deadline (although I may still include the before pictures so everyone can feel better about their messy spaces!) Instead I'm finally going to make myself a notebook for my ATCs. Something I've been meaning to do for a looooooooooooong time! And I might just manage to get a little cleaning done too.

heavenscreations 08/25/2011 #

This is the link to my flicker. And my project

linnmarino 08/27/2011 #

I put my picture on my blog since I was having some Flickr issues last night. http://worksfromtheattic.blogspot.com/2011/08/my-selfish-swap.html Thanks for the opportunity to think of myself for a change, it was nice! ~Linda
