INTERNATIONAL SWAP

I recently saw some images of matchboxes that had been secured in what looked like a book binding - and I thought: "that is soooooo cool!!" So I decided to make a swap out of it.

Everyone will have one partner and send one matchbox book to that partner. The book can be in one of the following formats:

  • Two matchboxes that have pages in between them (as if they were the book covers and the pages are somehow secured to them)

    • Use at least three (more if you like) matchboxes and secure them in what looks like a book binding. - or -

    • Make a small book (accordian style or traditionally bound) and put that inside the decorated matchbox.

Please don't let these limit you - let your creativity go wild!

No filling of the matchboxes is required - although you may do so if that's what you want to do. My only request as always is that you put some effort into your swap because someone else will be doing the same for you.

Newbies are welcome as long as they have COMPLETED profiles. Anyone with a no-send within the past month will be banned.

Happy Swapping!!

Sorry guys I forgot to include some links to images that may help you understand more of what I'm talking about.

Ok my mind must be super fuzzy because it's so late and I shouldn't be here stalking new swaps ;) But can you post a pic or link or instructions. Matchboxes have become my newest obsession and I want in on this one.

I would like to see a picture or some kind of link. I love making books.

Yes please, this sounds fascinating, but I can't quite picture it in my head. ^^ Would love to see a picture. ^^

Thanks!

I understand putting the accordion style booklet in the matchbox, but I don't understand the thing about matchboxes (2 or 3 or more) strung together.

Here's what I think ScullyB's referring to of the three or more matchboxes together, I ran across them in one of my books. I have made one, but could not find it to take a picture, the pictures are from the book.

Hi Everyone,

I'm sorry if my descriptions leave something to be desired. I am horrible with descriptions - but I'm working on it. The pictures that people have shared above are very good examples of what you can do. Unfortunately the etsy link above is not working anymore and that was the one that I had the most trouble describing. The most important thing is that everyone have fun and that all our partners receive a beautiful swap - so let your mind wander and create something beautiful!!

Hi!

Would it be OK if I use swedish matchboxes for this? They are 46 count so they are slightly taller than US ones, the difference isn't huge but it's noticable. If it's not OK I can fold my own boxes so it wouldn't be a problem, it would just be more convenient to use the empties I already have.

Swedish Matchboxes??? Those sound interesting if just because they aren't the norm. Now I've got to find me some! I've got three or four of these Matchbox books done now, I may or may not use one of them for the swap. It all depends on who my partner is and what they're into. ^^ I'm sooooo excited about this swap! It is my first matchbox swap and it inspired all of the christmas presents that I made. After I've got the internet up at my new house (I'm on my sisters right now) I'll upload some images to my flickr. ^^

Well, I live in Sweden so for me they are the norm :) Most people who know me know I like to decorate them and save their empty boxes for me, so I have dozens lying around. If you'd like a few to alter I'd be happy to send some, just PM me.
