Description:

There are an awful lot of swaps for Christmas cards and presents, but what about us folks with December birthdays?! I love Christmas but I love my birthday too. My birthday is close to Christmas, which means being majorly overshadowed by Christmas! I'm sure a lot of you with December birthdays experience this too.

So let's celebrate each other! The premise of this swap is simple: Send one birthday card each to five people, somewhere in the world, who also have their birthday in December!

Rules: - Your birthday must be in the month of December! and listed on your profile. - Newbies welcome with a complete profile. All others must have ratings of 4.9+ and no recent 1's. - NO CHRISTMAS CARDS! - Please note this is a swap for Birthday Cards, not postcards. Usually these will be roughly the same size, but folded and sent in an envelope. - Cards can be store-bought, printed from your own photographs, or handmade. Sender's choice! But... - It's your partner's birthday, after all - check their profile to get a feel for the kinds of things they like and what they might appreciate in a card. Send something nice, of quality that you would like to receive yourself. What you write is up to you! And don't open your cards til your Birthday !

Your birth date must be listed on your profile. If it is not listed on your profile when I sort through the participants list, you may be removed from the swap.

(I borrowed this swap from @sparklingsights who hasn't been on SB since last December)

Could we write Birthday or something like that on the outside of the envelope so we don't get them mixed up with Christmas cards and open them early, please?

TerryF 06/22/2011 #

Good idea!

siouxx05 06/23/2011 #

Do whatever you want to the outside of the envelope ! Mail art it if you so desire...

northqueen 07/ 8/2011 #

siouxx05 07/ 8/2011 #

Excellent @northqueen why not join us then ? :)

Catrad 07/19/2011 #

My birthday is christmas day, so 'overshadowed' is an understatement!

How interesting swap is! I really agree to your thought. Because my b-day is close to Christmas, too! So my b-day cake is always Christmas cake.^^

BambooBailey 08/ 8/2011 #

Awesome - I love the idea of having five partners , this will make the day special. And....don't open your cards till your birthday!! Even better. Thanks for the great swap!

karmacrane 08/22/2011 #

mines new years eve !

kathyp 09/13/2011 #

I am watching this swap for now. I am currently in 5 swaps. i am a newbie and I signed up for one in the future so I have to wait to complete 1 before I can join this swap..sounds like a great idea! My bday is Dec 11..my brother's is Dec 10 (1 year apart) so to say the least, despite the holiday, bdays were a challenge in the later years.

Itti 10/16/2011 #

Great idea. I'm watching for now as I'm a newbie so can only take five. My birthday's Dec 1.

I'm excited for this one... I'm like AZSunshine, only I'm on the 21st, my sister is the 20th (a year younger) and my mother is the 14th. Pet Peeve is opening a Christmas Card that has "Merry Christmas and Happy Birthday" written inside - frustrates me. I'll be 29 this year and I still get presents that are "joint" Christmas and Birthday Presents. (tbh I'm really so sick and tired of my birthday being always pushed aside - I think its because the big 30 is coming up, but I'm likely to lose my mind this year if it happens again. - seriously a cake with any type of christmas decoration isn't a birthday cake. Getting the empty foot bath box isn't a birthday present, its shitty way of telling me I'm getting a foot bath for Christmas. Never having a birthday party/dinner/get together on your birthday or for being told people don't have the time or money to celebrate your birthday. ALL of it just makes me feel so tiny on my birthday that seriously I might lose my mind this year.) So vent aside and fingers crossed that our Birthday's might be a little more special with this swap.

This is a great idea, December babies unite! Am glad to honor the Dec Birthdays, am signed up, will make it special.

siouxx05 11/12/2011 #

@NatACT I couldn't agree more! I always hated the happy birthday/merry Christmas cards too.. Even in my online group, my birthday is too close to Christmas so nobody wants to do a lunch with me.. or they suggest we have a lunch a week or two earlier so it doesn't clash with the christmas lunch, but they won't change the date of their lunches by one or two days so I can attend. Anyway, we are going to get lots of postal love this year!!

Itti 11/15/2011 #

Anyone who is a good enough friend to merit getting a birthday card, I would send them a birthday and Christmas card even if their birthday was Christmas day.

Having said that, if we weren't close enough for me to send a birthday card, I might write "happy birthday" in their Christmas card just so they know I hadn't forgotten. But in that case it wouldn't be instead of a birthday card, because I wouldn't have got them a birthday card if their birthday had been in July.

What are your thoughts on this, people who have birthdays closer to Christmas than me?? Is it acceptable to write "happy birthday" in the card if it's someone you wouldn't've sent a birthday card to anyway? Or would it be better not to wish them happy birthday at all?

Itti 11/15/2011 #

@kathyp I used to go out with someone whose birthday was Dec 30. Apparently lots of people (me included) on hearing this went "Oh, New Year's Eve! ... wait."

Gofeen 11/16/2011 #

Ha! @Itti My birthday is Decenber 30th and even my godmother couldn't get it right. She was convinced it was on New Year's Eve so I always got my card on the wrong day. My mother would always wrap my birthday present in Christmas paper till I had a rant some years ago (but still as an adult) Now my sister makes sure she doesn't do it any more but she is 91 now so she gets forgiven if she forgets my birthday. a funny aside I have a cousin whose birthday is the same as mine. He is exactly 5 years older. :>)

Itti 11/18/2011 #

I know something like that - my mum's dad and brother have the same birthday!

As for me, I share mine with the first day of Advent - not a big deal except it meant that my brother and sister always got a present (a wrapped-up advent calendar) on my birthday but I didn't on theirs!

Itti 11/21/2011 #

Posted @Sanae s as it's got to get to Japan by the 7th. I hope it makes it.

hartline22 11/22/2011 #

I would love to join this!! My birthday is Dec 30th

hartline22 11/22/2011 #

OPPS I see it's now over:(

Itti 11/26/2011 #

Posted @betweenthetrees so hers gets there in time :)

Itti 11/29/2011 #

Posted them all except @shortmommy23 's as I need to take it to the post office, will go tomorrow.

Itti 12/ 1/2011 #

Looks like not opening my cards til my birthday (today) is not going to be an issue - one of my partners hasn't even sent it yet, and three more only posted it yesterday.

And to think I was rushing to the post office with my early ones to make sure they got theirs by their birthday.

siouxx05 12/ 2/2011 #

I forgot to click send.. And I stuffed two cards up! I can't believe I did that, but they are all posted now..

siouxx05 12/ 2/2011 #

Thank you all for joining this swap, you are all wonderful!!!
