Description:

What is a tip in? A tip in is a 4x4.5 inch piece of cardstock with a 4x4 inch piece of artwork on it. The left hand edge is a half inch of blank cardstock, this way these pages can be bound into a small book. This last year has been difficult for me, but I have a friend who has really been there for me. With the Holidays comming up I was trying to think of a special gift for her....but I always do that anyway, and I want to let her know just how much her support has meant to me. That is when I thought to create a special valentine just for her...and the more I thought, the more I liked the idea to make this project a swap. For part #1 you will have 6 partners, you will create a tip-ip for each partner, for a total of 6 tip ins. This will be international, so don't join if you are unwilling to send over-seas. No newbies on this one, 4.8 rating with no recent no sends. I will be running a swap for 4 more tip ins (part 2) right along with this one. #2 is for those of you that want either fewer partners, or would like more partners ( by joining both swaps you will have more pages to choose from) Any medium is welcome, but these should be your very best work. You can make your page entirely visual, write a poem, do a collage, use vintage valentines, include a pocket containing a surprize, let your imagination be your guide. These tip ins should be suitable for a Mother to give to a daughter, a Husband to his Wife, Same sex Partners to give each other, or as in my case to give to your very best friend. What I mean by pointing this out is....make them G-rated. On the back of your tip in clearly print your name, general location , and the title of your page. Optional is your e-mail or other contact info. Some cautions...please use a good heavy cardstock for your base, leave the left hand side entirely blank for 1/2 inch, do not punch holes or decorate in any way We all use different methods to bind our pages into books. Be considerate of each others work, if you use brads or wire, make sure you cover over the back to prevent your work from scratching the next page. Feel free to use chunky embellishments, just be sure to build up the corners of your work (I've used covered corregated cardboard for this) Or create a built up border around your work to prevent that rhinestone from denting the page in front of it. One final caution- DON"T BE LATE ON THIS ONE. Weall need time to bind our books, and some may need time to post it to that special someone.

So this one we make 4 instead of 6 like in the first one?

alleycat 11/ 6/2007 #

Yes Jessica, I wanted to give everyone an option to suit thier needs and time constraints. This way, we can sign up for 4...6...or10 tip ins. I like little chunky books that have at least 8 pages, but I've seen some really sweet things with fewer pages.

Would you please be kind enough to suggest some binding tecniques?I have one chucky book ,it was bound by someone with a spiral spine...they had a machine.I don't have that option this time..I want to make this special for my daughter...Thanks for having this swap.

The easiest way that I know is to use a hole punch....then either use ring binders or sew it together with some cording. if anyone has a link to more information or a tutorial, please post! I'll see what I can find for you after Thanksgiving, but I won't have access to internet over the holiday weekend.

O.k. I'm having a bit of trouble assigning parners for this swap, I don't know why because it went fine for part one. I'll keep trying, but I might have to get some help, please be patient and I'll get the problem worked out as soon as possible, Thanks, Keri

Caresalot, thanks for being patient with me...I found some good tutorials by googling book binding tutorials undr the image catagory, but I'm having a problem setting up a link....my screen keeps going blank, and there's no computer tech at the library to help me today...so as soon as I figure out what I'm doing wrong, I'll get those links set up. Meanwhile, you might want to check out the google sites yourself, thanks, Alleycat
