Description:

Don't you hate it when you can't send something because customs won't allow it or because it'll spoil far too easily? Fruit salads, fried eggs, french fries, burgers, steak kebab are but a few foods that don't mix with mail. Think about it - a double cheeseburger inside a bubble envelope...uh-uh.

Now it's time to put on our thinking caps and figure out a way to send unmailable items. Can't send ice cream? Send an apron (recipe cards, T-shirt) with the image of an ice cream. That Thanksgiving turkey too big for the dinky flat-rate box? You could send turkey magnets, egg timer, or shopping lists.

The item can also be something edible like chilli seasoning mix (can't send beef), jerky (can't send beef/chicken), fruit jello (can't send fresh fruit), fruit roll-ups, Ceasar salad mix (can't send veggies), etc.

For this (ever so strange) swap you will:

  • Have 1 partner and spend at least $7 on the swap.
  • Send 1 edible item that's related to a non-mailable (perishable) food. Examples: Powdered fruit juice, apple bars, jerky, salad seasonings, fruit pudding, cheese noodle mix, veggie rice mixes, etc.
  • Send 1 non edible item that's related to a non-mailable (perishable) food. It can be hand-crafted or store bought. Examples: An apron with burgers, recipe cards with chickens, a T-shirt with an ice cream on it, an egg timer shaped like a pig, a notebook with a fruit on it, dishcloth with milk bottles on it, etc.
  • A note telling your partner a bit about the items.
  • Package your items appropriately. Glass items and fragile foods should be wrapped and boxed to prevent breakage. It's a good idea to use a plastic baggie for anything that can leak, melt, or tear open during shipping.
  • Please send items in their original, sealed packaging for health and customs reasons. Be sure to check expiration dates and only send in-date food items that will not expire before reaching your partner.
  • Send and rate on time. On the rare occasion that you may need to send a bit late, please contact your partner AND the swap coordinator before the swap deadline has passed.

If you have any questions, feel free to post here or send me a p.m.

P.S.: I did not try to mail a Thanksgiving turkey..it was a llama! xD
