Description:

This is an international swap. You will have 2 partners and make 2 tip-in pages for each of them (2 x 2 = 4 total tip-in pages.) The size of these pages will be 4 inches by 4 inches. The left half inch margin should not be embellished with anything heavy. The margin can be decorated but should be flat so your partner can punch binding holes if they want to do so.

A tip-in is a page designed so it can either be inserted into another book or bound along one edge. You are encouraged to use fibers and other embellishments on the page to make it "chunky"...just remember that the left 1/2 inch should be flat.

You'll make each of your partners 2 pages. The first 4x4 page will be Moulin Rouge themed: vintage cabaret & Can-Can girls, Paris in the early 1900s, Toulouse Lautrec, the red windmill, or scenes inspired by the Moulin Rouge movies. The second 4x4 page will be Absinthe and/or Green Fairy themed. You decide whether you send identical designs to both partners or whether all 4 of your pages are different -- but your partner should end up with 2 pages, one for each theme.

Your pages will be 4 inches x 4 inches each. Your tip-in paper should be sturdy cardstock. These pages will be handled, so use good heavy stuff. You can draw, paint, collage, sew, do digital -- it's your choice.

To participate:
--Sorry, no unrated swappers for this one. The final sign up date is a ways out. Please become rated before signing up. --You must have a rating of 4.8 or higher. I will review all sign-ups and remove people who show a recent trend toward 1s or 3s.

sounds like fun ... are both sides of each 4x4 page decorated?

On the back please include your Swap-bot name, your real name & where you are located in the world. You can decorate the back or not...your choice.

I love this site by Lisa Vollrath and her article about tip-ins is terrific. You have to register to read it, but the site is free and there are lots of other articles, photos and even some free things to download! http://www.gomakesomething.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=47&Itemid=2

You might also want to check out this group on Flickr (I have a few things posted in the pictures...and seeing helps to make it clearer...) http://www.flickr.com/groups/tipinart/

This website offers a pretty good explanation and example pic: http://mapleleafartistry.blogspot.com/2007/03/first-altered-book-tip-in-purple.html

I was asked about sizes -- my idea was that these would be 4x4 with no extra border...but what's this group think? Do you want 4x4 PLUS a 1/2 inch on the left side? That would make these good to punch and put inside a book. If we add a margine you'd have the entire 4x4 surface with design PLUS a 1/2 inch along one side.

Let me know if you have an opinion one way or the other.

I think 1/2 inch left is better then you can punch a hole and not worry you are ruining the design

Partners assigned this morning. Please work 4x4 PLUS 1/2 inch along the left so pages can be punched.

You decide whether you send identical designs to both partners or whether all 4 of your pages are different -- but your partner should end up with 2 pages, one for each theme. Your tip-in paper should be sturdy cardstock.

You should at least include your Swap-bot screen name, real name and city/country info on the back. If you want to decorate the backs, I'm sure no partners will complain, but decorating the back is NOT a requirement. Just work carefully and try to have a clean back to each tip-in.

I've got home computer problems, so have limited internet access. I probably won't have this fixed until after Christmas, so if I am slow to respond to any questions, please know I am not ignoring you!

New computer...everything is good now!
