Description:

Fall is just around the corner and what does that make you think of? Cold hands! What warms our hands? Mittens!

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO?

Make a pair of mittens for your pal! How fun is that?

Sign-up closes September 15th, and packages must be mailed no later than October 31st.

Minimum requirements to participate:

  1. Make and send a pair of knitted OR crocheted mittens to your pal.

  2. Include some additonal surprise (example: candy, magnet, cool craft tool, holiday ornament).

NOTE: I had one blog set up but that one got goofed up somehow so the link below is a NEW one.

I've created a blog for the swap for us, it's at http://www.mittensmittensmittens.blogspot.com/.

You'll find ideas there as well as other information on the swap.

Q: Who can join?

A: Anyone!

Q: How will I know who my pal is?

A: After sign-up closes Swap-bot will e-mail you asking you to log in and view your pal's name and address.

Q: How will I know what colors or fiber preferences my pal has?

A: There are questions at the bottom of this section for you to answer. Please send your answers to mittenswap@yahoo.com. After sign up closes I will send you answers from your assigned pal.

Q: What happens if I can't send my package by October 31st?

A: Please do not sign up unless you can commit to this deadline.

Q: How much should I spend on my pal?

A: I suggest a minimum spend of $15 (for mittens and the extra surprise) - NOT including postage.

QUESTIONS: SEND TO mittenswap@yahoo.com:

1)What fibers do you prefer for mittens?

2)What are your top 3 favorite mitten colors?

3)One of our participants, Mother of Purl, came up with another question (good catch!):

What size mittens do you wear, small, medium, or large? If you don't know the actual size you can take measurements.

Provide all of the following:

a. Measure around your palm (don't include your thumb - my sister did that once and it took me a few minutes to figure out why her hand measurements were so much bigger than mine!).

b. Measure from your wrist (bottom of hand) to the tip of your middle finger.

c. Measure your thumb from the webbing between your thumb and forefinger to the tip of the thumb.

I suggest an additional question should be "Small, Medium, or Large mittens for you?"

How about crocheted mittens?

Hi Sam,

I don't see why not! The only thing is I don't know of any crochet patterns on line to link to for those who might need to have some ideas for crocheted mittens.

If you do, please send them to mittenswap@yahoo.com and I'll add them to the blog I set up for this.

Thanks! Patty (Coordinator of Mitten Swap)

THANK YOU!! to my mitten swap partner who sent me the most BE-A-YOU-TIFULL mittens. I wore them today to work and they match perfectly my brown outfit. Luxurious warmth as I passed from my house to car and cold steering wheel to waiting for the BART train to waiting for the Genetech shuttle bus. Thanks... very very useful items and so damn perfectly knitted!! I appreciated the almost genetic engineered perfection of each stitch.

I sent my mittens eaons ago and have heard nothing from my partner. I aslo haven't gotten any mittens from anybody else. Is the post office confiscating mittens for their workers?

MOP - I'll check into your mittens issue with your pal. I know a few people were going to be late. I'll get back to you!

The lovely lady who is sending my mittens from Estonia I'll be happy to wait for. But I sent extra stuff with the mittens to my partner, and she seems to have fallen off the face of the earth. Her blog says she just moved, and I wondered if that could be a factor.

I am so sorry I missed the deadline for this, I just found your site this morning. If you do this again I would love to participate.
