Description:

Do you LOVE collecting fabric and could always do with more? Is traditional patchwork your thing? Maybe with a modern twist? Charm squares are a great way to build a fabric collection as well as providing the basis for great looking quilts! The idea is that every piece of fabric in the quilt is different and some quilts have 100's! Simply send five different 5" squares of fabric to each of your five partners, making a total of 25 squares of fabric that you will be sending out. Please cut your fabric squares accurately. This swap is International and open to newbies who have a fully filled out profile and swappers who have a rating greater than 4. How do you get a heart? I will leave that up to your imagination! Happy Swapping!

I started collecting fabrics for a charm quilt ages ago and never finished! I think this swap just might inspire me to pull out that box of fabric and start sewing! Here's a bit of interesting info and history of Charm Quilts .

Thanks for the recommendation, TeraBACat. It is a lovely site. Time to raid the stash!

Do the fabrics need to be washed before cutting? I'm getting ready to cut and just thought about this.

I have my squares cut already, not washed.

I soaked mine. Maybe they won't shrink.

Generally fabrics should be washed before they are cut. Good girl that I was (note past tense!)I( used to wash fabric as I bought it, before I stashed it LOL. That said, I also attended classes at a well respected quilt shop here in South Aussie where that was not done, particularly for wall hangings. Suggestion: let your partner know one way or t'other!

I just read on the forums that it is good practice to post a comment when your swaps have been sent out. So, groundhoggirl, Griffie, Baetty Bagwell, Kesthegeek and Rug Rat your nickels were mailed on Monday Sept 24. I have been quilting and sewing for more years than I care to mention. I do not prewash my fabrics. Todays fabrics do not shrink enough to make any difference. I personally prefer all that sizing in the fabric as it makes it easier to piece. This swap did not say anything about prewashing, so I didn't. I would, however if the swap required it.

Thanks for that, Zizzybob! Parcels on their way to groundhoggirl, Blue Leaf, kesathegeek, buhnuh and Rug Rat, too. Fabric unwashed! I will check in again once I get back from Sydney. Enjoy the week, all!
