Back in March @tiaragoth hosted a public version of this one which I had a lot of fun with (even though I got flaked...twice...oh well)--I have her permission to do this one, and will be using a little of her swap description. For this swap you will be making one steampunk charm for each of your five partners. That way by the end of it everyone will have a variety of charms made by other people for their charm bracelet (or whatever else they want to use them for.) Anything goes as long as the charms incorporate the steampunk theme and are durable enough to wear on a bracelet. The charms can be made from scratch using whatever you like, be it metal, beads, watch parts and gears, clay, felt, shrink plastic, fimo, wood etc. Or, if you prefer, you can alter existing items such as bottle caps, scrabble tiles, dominoes, poker chips, chipboard shapes, pendants, and vintage lockets by embellishing with the appropriate imagery and anything else you fancy. As far as size goes, I'd say as long as it's bigger than 1/2 inch it's fine. Don't forget to put a jump ring (or similar) on your charm! Spend time on these and make something really great that you would like to receive. I shouldn't have to define steampunk for you guys, right? But I will provide one small caveat--it's not just about the gears! Gears are great, but just involving gears doesn't necessarily make something steampunk (and a gear with a jump ring does not a charm make!) Just something to keep in mind when you're making these. You have a full month for this, (longer if you sign up early) so you have plenty of time to do a really good job. |
