I love the idea, but is there any way of making the "lead time" a little longer. I'm a long way from the nearest post office and can't necessarily get there at a day's notice. Also, for international swaps, 3 postcards every week is going to become very expensive.

What a lovely idea, I'm in!! On my watchlist x

For the club-Would one have to commit to sending pc's every wednesday or would that be optional?

KnittingMystery 07/28/2010 #

I just wanted to get the idea out there and the Wednesday Club started. That's why it begins within a week.

Just this swap is for 3 partners, I know what you mean about international mailing being quite an expense.

I think you wouldn't have to commit to sending weekly, Maybe there could be options, like weekly or monthly. Possibly also local & international, postage is an important consideration. When can discuss options and your ideas in the group forum as we get going. This swap is with the intent of sharing the idea, and finding interested people. So, please join the group and share your ideas.

Also, to participate in this swap, you are not obligated to join the group - but you are most welcome!

Sounds neat! I'll check out the group!

  • I'm thinking the focus of this group would be the "ordinary" things we would communicate, not what it is written on... so in that case, ANY type of postcard?? sender's choice completely? handmade, ad cards, self printed, etc?
DarbyFlats 07/28/2010 #

Awesome! Something to look forward to each week... fantastic idea! :)

I joined the group, as well.

Thinking about joining depending on how much time I will have next week. However, I am a bit worried about the deadline. If the last day to sign up is the 3rd, I think you can start assigning partners on the 4th at midnight. Assuming you will in fact assign partners as soon as possible, it will still give people a very limited amount of time to check who their partners are, choose postcards they may like, write something and mail them.

While I agree this is quick, it's sort of spontaneous, it doesn't require a lot of preparation. Send a favorite PC of yours, to let your partner know something/someplace special to you.

The plan is to assign partners the late evening of the 3rd, I've been in many swaps that assigned before the day ended on the west coast & not been able to participate. We can assign partners Tuesday at noon PDT, that would give a little more time to do your cards to mail on Wednesday.

Regarding the cards, though it is sender's choice, consideration should be taken regarding your partners preferences concerning handmade, self-printed, & ad cards. It doesn't matter to many people, it's the message that's important, but to others, it does. But the whole intent of the Wednesday Club is friendship.

The major focus of this quick swap is twofold - to send out the first Wednesday of August and to introduce the Wednesday Club group, where the future swaps will occur. If the first swap is too quick, come join the group, and have more time to plan and prepare. I'm guessing it might include options such as RAK, or participating in weekly, monthly, or occasional times.

Please know that everyone is welcome, your opinions and concerns matter.

I love the idea but would you be assigned the same partners and stay with them or resign up every Wednesday for new people to send to?

KnittingMystery 07/30/2010 #

You could choose to send to the same partners over a long time, or take on others, as time went on. You might establish long-term friendships. I'm hoping that others will have suggestions & ideas in the group.

I love this idea! Can I write my postcards now, and send them out on Wednesday? I love the idea of extending the Swap-bot idea beyond the exchange of material goods to friendship and community! (Of course, this happens spontaneously here too, but I'm happy to be part of this smaller group where the connections are more personal and intentional)

I have been trying to get someone to swap postcards weekly like you would with penpal letters and no one was ever interested. This swap is perfect!!
