Description:

Okay, so I love Amigurumi's. They're fun to make and so adorable! I also have an abundance of yarn. I'm sure most crocheter's/knitters know my dilema!

So, this is going to be part of a series of swaps. Each swap will have a theme and we will have "traveling" Amigurumi dolls!

The first theme is "Make Your Amigurumi". It's sender's choice on this one! Make any kind of Amigurumi doll you wish, name him/her and write a little bit about them. (Come on, we were all kids once! Make up a story for your little guy!) Send the Ami, along with the story to your partner.

Here is where the fun begins! Your partner will take a picture of the Ami (again, be creative!) once they receive it and will email (or snail mail, your choice) it back to the sender so they can see where he's going!

I'm going to have at least one theme every couple weeks. Some will be simple, some will be difficult. Basically, you will decorate your Ami friend according to the theme and send it to the next stop. At each stop a picture will be taken and sent back to the sender, so you will see all the Ami's on their travels around the US!

I'm going to give a month for this first swap as we live in a busy world and sometimes it takes a day to make a doll and other times it takes longer!

So are we making a new ami for every swap based on the theme or just dressing up the one to match the theme?

chrissygee 07/10/2010 #

We are just dressing up or adding accessories to match the theme. :)

ooooooooooh! I'm so obsessed with crochet right now. It's literally all I do. LOVE IT!

wackywallflower 07/10/2010 #

I have some questions... is there a size suggestion? 5 inches? smaller, larger? Secondly, does it need to be a person doll, or can it be something else?

chrissygee 07/10/2010 #

I think the one I'm working on is about 3 inches tall. You can make them as large or as small as you like as long as they can be decorated! :) It can be a person, animal, fruit...whatever you wish! Variety is the spice of life. :)

YAY! I'm so excited for this one!

i love these! but i cant crochet...how do you make them with knitting?! and can anyone tell me what this difference is between a plushie and an amigurumi?

wackywallflower 07/13/2010 #

@thegreengriffin I used to knit stuffed animals all the time before I learned crochet. can you use double pointed needles? They were my best friends, haha. I could be wrong about this, but I think when most people say amigurumi they usually just mean knit or crocheted cute stuffed animal/doll, and plushies are usually sewn with fabric...? that's my understanding.

I don't collect stuffies, but this sounds like lots of fun! I'm going to start looking for a pattern. Will they eventually come home?

Here's a cool link for free patterns-both knit and crochet. http://freeamigurumipatterns.blogspot.com/search/label/fish

I am taking a class in 2 weeks on how to crochet these lovelies, hopefully I can join on another round.

Sorry guys, I've been out because my laptop cord decided to take a crap! But I'm back and to answer questions, eventually I would like for these guys to come home. :) Thanks for those who have answered questions that others had that I didn't get to. mattsmom49, I'm planning on having a few and want to make them "jump in" friendly, so I hope to see you there!
