Description:

I have been once again encouraged to use my reusable shopping bags because of a wonderful project my friend did on the ecological hazards of plastic bags. Please watch the below link for ecuational motivation to be more green.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=phnuizjfP70

For this swap you will send ONE bag to FOUR different partners. Thus you aquire a variety of bags and four should do the trick next time you are out shopping. You must send 4 new bags worth 1-2 $ each with the tag still on. These bags are relatively cheap and you can find fun and colorful bags. Please nothing dreadful. Also, you must send a note to greet your partner, and extras are up to you.

You must be a loyal swapper ( no flakes), have a 4.5 rating or higher, and you must rate your swap once received.

Thats it, enjoy my bag lady friends!

=(

What a pity! I have so much liked having bags made in USA and send other from France where we can find some nice bags ! City

scrapwithstyle 06/29/2010 #

what if new and unused but w/o tags?

ctyankee 06/29/2010 #

I like the sound of this, but how does one avoid sending a bag that your swap partners could purchase locally? In other words, it would be better if it was specified that the bag should come from a local store instead of a chain ... or if it's a chain store, that it's regional & not located in the areas where you'd be sending them. This would require a bit of googling, but I know I would not be happy if I got a bag from a store I could easily get to around here. (And I have quite a collection!) What do other people think???

honeysucklescafe 06/29/2010 #

To city700---I know trust me, I prefer international because I love to receive international items, im just afraid of shipping. If I had to send 4 bags overseas I am not sure how much it would cost, I once sent something to spain and it cost me 18.00.

To scrapwithstyle---as long as it looks new and is new and you write to your partner that it is new and that it just does not have a tag I think that should be okay!

To ctyankee----I would agree just a plain publix bag is not so fun, but how about if the bag was decorated. Like if i bought a few publix bags that had a breast cancer awarneess, a theme, or colorful picture I think that would be fun. I am not wanting to be too complicated, but I do want everyone to find something fun and colorful, nothing dreadful, or plain.

what do you guys think about international...do you think shipping would be high?

THank you all for your input, I am more than willing to adjust and make accomodations.

pickleme 06/29/2010 #

I agree with ctyankee and don't want bags I could get myself. I take this into consideration when doing a swap. I live in NY but am currently in CA, so my bags will come from there. Watching for now.

kimmer 06/30/2010 #

I dont know what publix is. how about if we each say what bag we will be sending - maybe we could avoid too much confusion?

I would send black bags with a large pink ribbon from sunflower market here in arizona.

gypsyinthecastle 06/30/2010 #

This looks interesting, but I'm new. What if it's a bag made by me of reclaimed materials, spefically cat food or horse food with a picture of the animal on it? All are clean. I'm just starting to noodle on this project as I've accumulated about 30 of them to create with and this would give me some motivation to get the project done.

MAKE THIS INTERNATIONAL PLEASEEEEEEE =[

honeysucklescafe 06/30/2010 #

OK to everyone who has signed up would you mind if we switched to international?

Bags--I think we will all get something new and fun if we all committ to buying something that is unusual and colorful, I feel confident that all of our different personalities and tastes will bring us something different than we would probably buy for ourselves.

Gypsy, I love your creativity and idea, and I think you should create that swap, or maybe we can do that next time. Thank you for the great idea!

ctyankee 06/30/2010 #

To kimmer: I like the sound of your bag. Anything from a place called Sunflower Market has to be fabulous!

To gypsyinthecastle: That's a great idea, but it would take time for me to accumulate such "material."

To honeysucklescafe: According to the USPS, a 4-oz first class large envelope to Spain would cost $3.76. To be really sure of the cost, I would have to take the package to the post office & have them weigh it for me. I will not have my car available to do this until Saturday, & the deadline to sign up is tomorrow. Some bags have square bottoms & inserts (grocery bags) & others are much larger bags made out of plastic, so it depends on what is sent. This would take time to check out thoroughly & I probably will, out of curiosity, but it won't help this time around. Sorry.

honeysucklescafe 06/30/2010 #

THank you ctyankee. That is helpful and not so scary. I can do those prices if need be, AND to everyone I am going to extend the signup day because we have a lot of watchers that need to join! pLease! Much love to you all and thank you all for being so patient and helpful to me!~

ctyankee 07/ 1/2010 #

Honeysucklescafe: If you extend the date, can you give me time to get to the post office & annoy the man behind the counter who has become by BFF? I won't get there until Tuesday, because this weekend is a busy one & Monday the post office is not open. If not, that's okay, I will check on Tuesday anyway & be ready for the next swap!

honeysucklescafe 07/ 1/2010 #

I will~no prob!

iLoveMail 07/ 2/2010 #

Just wanted to let you all know - TJ MAXX has some really cute printed ones (big too) for 99 cents!! I also saw/bought a 2-bag set (1 large, 1 small) for $2.99 yesterday. A party store I went to had a smaller bag & flip-flops on sale for $3.99 for the set!

kimmer 07/ 2/2010 #

oh im getting excited! maybe i will try to find something fun & funky instead? dunno - i rather like the pink ribbon for breat cancer - hmmm.... i think i love this swap!!!

arieslivinlife 07/ 4/2010 #

I love this idea, but see where it might go wrong. Before I join - are the bags just made of that one recycleable material (nylon-like)?? What if someone has a large shopping bag like from a popular store in NYC (made of heavy duty paper) and it was only used to bring home the item... would that be included as a recycled bag??

candigirl 07/ 6/2010 #

@Arieslivinlife I don't think that would work..

you can't use a paper bag over and over to carry groceries. I think for this swap, the idea is to give someone a set of bags that they can take to a store with them indefinitely instead of throwing away bags from the store when you get home.

ctyankee 07/ 6/2010 #

Okay, honeysucklescafe, I'm back with the info I promised.

I went to the post office on my way to work this a.m. I brought two different bags with me, each in bubblepacked brown mailers. The first is the typical reusable grocery bag made of indeterminate "fabric" with a large square bottom, but mine does not have an insert (anymore) for the bottom. The second is a large plastic-coated bag with a narrow bottom, more from a non-grocery store, but also reusable.

Okay, now, as for postage. Within the U.S., postage is $1.56 for the 1st one mentioned above, $1.90 for the 2nd. To France, $3.12 for the 1st, $4.80 for the 2nd type. To Canada, $1.75 & $2.27 respectively.

If anyone needs further information, contact me.

Enjoy your swap!

honeysucklescafe 07/ 6/2010 #

This is wonderful! I am soooo grateful to you for doing this for everyone. You are the best.. Thank you so much ctyankee!

Durable non paper bags please
