Description:

This is my first swap, but I thought that it could be a fun swap, so here goes:

My parents have always provided my daughter with a new, different Christmas ornament every year. And every year, I cross-stitch the people I work the closest with a new Christmas ornament for their tree. HOWEVER, I'm bored with the Christmas tree cross-stitch patterns that I own. SO, I thought that while there was still extra time before Christmas to swap AND to make the ornaments, that it was time for a swap. I know I certainly need all the time I can get for planning and implementing anything!

Here's the scoop. Every person will have 3 swap partners. Each partner has to send AT LEAST 2 different cross-stitch, Christmas tree ornament patterns to each of the 3 partners.

3 (partners) X 2 (cross-stitch patterns) = 6 (patterns in all)
I don't care if you use the same 2 patterns for each of the 3 partners that are assigned to you.

You do NOT need to send color copies, black and white copies are acceptable. There are no further themes or restrictions, other than a the swap has to be a cross-stitch pattern for Christmas (so no size limitations, etc.).

I will be checking every participant for any no-swaps or low ratings. Anyone signing up that does have any no-swaps or low ratings will be banned unless I am contacted and the situation is explained (then I will consider each case on it's own merit).

If there are any questions or concerns that I may have left out, PLEASE feel free to point it out. Like I said, this is my first time as a swap coordinator, but I just couldn't pass this up!

Let's swap and get ready for Christmas!!

Awesome idea!

Do we have to design the pattern ourselves? If not, is this OK by copyright laws? Don't mean to be awkward, but I know that Yahoo groups have been closed down if people have been in breach of copyright....

No, you do not have to design the pattern yourself. I didn't think about the copyright laws, I just have gotten patterns from family members copying the patterns for me and guess I didn't think about that. The original patterns I have I don't even know what book they came from, as my mother had them as copies herself. Anyone have any good suggestions?

I don't know too much about that, but since we are not charging for the patterns, perhaps it is okay?

I have e-mailed the gal in charge of swap-bot, but have not gotten any response yet. I didn't think twice about it, due to the same thinking, it's not like there's any profit anywhere, but I'm not up on the laws, etc. I just thought it'd be fun to have something different.

I really hate to rain on the parade but you can't make copies of charts, whether they came from books, magazines or were just published on their own, and give them away. You can make a working copy to use as you stitch but that's it. There was an article about copyright laws in a recent Nordic Needle newsletter. You can read it at http://www.nordicneedle.com/newsletters/sales/_100/129.shtml

Scroll down a little bit to see where it says Copyright Laws for Stitchers.

Swapping an original chart should be fine though.
