Description:

I am new to FB's, so I have none to swap when I see swaps and that sucks. I want to get into it, but the swaps I find always require that I send 10 or more FB's, and that would be a lot to make for myself and send out.

So this will be a swap (and hopefully a series of swaps) for people to start out their FB collection. You are very welcome to join even if you are not new to FB's.

If you are new and have no FB's make 3 FB's for and by yourself. If you don't know what a FB is please look in the help section in the swapbot glosserary.

If you have established FB's lying around please feel free to send those instead.

The FB's should be about half the size of a postcard and have 3-6 pages (the less pages the faster you get it back)

Make sure you write your name name and adress on it. Also write if you are looking for penpals, private swap partners or both. Include your swapbot name also so people have the option of contacting you to ask about swapping with you. Decorate the page in your own style.

You will have 3 partners for this swap and you will send one FB to each partner.

Let's build up our collection at a nice and easy pace. I will be hosting more of these if they are a success.

Newbies welcome with well filled out profile. Everyone else please have at least a 4.8 rating and no recent no-sends.

If you are not new to FB's and have lots of them lying around you should certainly feel free to include more than one FB if you want to help new people build up their collection. You are not required to do this, but if this is something you want to do please PM your partners before sending and ask if they are new to FB's or not.

What do you do with the FB when your partner sends theirs to you? I want to get into FBs too but for some reason I can't get my head around it. What do you do to get them going on their travels?

Morgaine 02/27/2010 #

I plan to do more of these swaps and in the following swaps you can join and pass along the ones you've gotten in a previous swap to someone new instead of making new ones.

Katica 02/27/2010 #

As a seasoned FB swapper, can I say that the books you're describing are enormous for FBs? I feel like half the postcard size, and 3 - 5 pages is probably sufficient.

SwapFanatic 02/27/2010 #

Yes i agree with Katica i would like to join this swap but the fb's are way to big i usually fold a large index card in half and had like 2 - 3 pages for an fb. I have been doing it for about 7 years. Would love to join if fb size is adjusted.

SwapFanatic 02/27/2010 #

Also I have some established fb's I would like to use a couple of those too hope that would be ok?

Morgaine 02/27/2010 #

I know that they are supposed to be smaller, my problem is I just can't fit all my information on anything smaller. I just made a test one, wrote my name, adress and what kind of stuff I'm looking to swap. I took up one whole page (postcard size) with hardly any room to decorate it.

So how do you fit your information on something that small? I would be happy to adjust the size if you could give me some tips.

I have done tons of FB's, but that was like 15 years ago, so I'm out of practice.

Ditto critique on the too-large size (both dimensions and number of pages), and also note that the single staple makes it less sturdy than you would probably want. You might consider editing your info, not increasing the size of your writing space. I would not bother to read an entire FB page of that size.

Katica 02/27/2010 #

A lot of people who want to write a lot about themselves in their FBs use labels that they make on their computer - they'll write their address and interests or things they want to swap, and they'll shrink it down to a font between 8 pt and 11 pt, and maybe decorate that. I make a grid in microsoft word to put my address and info in, then i can cut a lot of them out easily using a paper-cutter. That way, if you make or swap a lot of FBs, it's easy to cut and paste one into the book, and you still have the option of handwriting in a personal message or adding a little decoration if you want to give it a personal touch.

I handwrite sometimes, but I don't have a whole lot of a personal ad to go with my addy - normally I just add my e-mail address or sometimes I'll write in "would like to trade postcards!' or something.

I make my own labels on the computer and put all the info on those i take the labels and shrink them down and make sure they are a readable size but not too large then print them and glue them to the fb

Thank you for all the advice. I have edited the swap information, please let me know if it's okay now or I need to edit more?

SwapFanatic 02/27/2010 #

so do we send 3 fb's to each partner for a total of 9? or is it 1 fb to each partner for a total of 3?

SwapFanatic 02/27/2010 #

Also are already made ones ok to send too?

Morgaine 02/27/2010 #

@SwapFanatic that information is already in the swap ;-) Yes I changed it so you can send established ones. But it's only 1 FB to each partner. It's meant to be user friendly for people who don't have a collection of FB's lying around. I for instance don't have a single one, so if it was 3 FB's for each partner I would have to make each of them 3 FB's all for and by me. That seems kind of silly. My whole reason for doing this is for new people to build up a collection so they at some point can join the larger FB swaps where you have to send a whole bunch.

NorthernBorder 02/27/2010 #

Good job editing; thank you for being so open to suggestions.

Katica 02/27/2010 #

Weeee. I might jump in dependent upon my finishing up some other things this weekend...we'll see :)

Morgaine 02/27/2010 #

@NorthernBorder If I'm not open to suggestions how will I learn? ;-)

I was just so fed up with all the FB swaps being for people who already have lots of them, with no chance for new people to jump in that I decided to do something about it. I was prepared for the fact that people would be "correcting my mistakes" and I am happy for all the help.

kayleena 03/ 1/2010 #

so let me see if I follow correctly cuz it has been a long day and I think I am a bit confused. We make 3 fb's and send one to each partner, then they put their info in and we get it back, or we get something totally new? I am just wondering how they become established if we don't get them back lol

Morgaine 03/ 2/2010 #

The idea is that you keep sending the FB to someone new until it is filled up. The last person to write/put their date in the FB will send it back to the person who made it or the person it was made for (if made as a gift). To kept the FB's going on it's way just sign up for more FB swaps after this. Simple as that. I will be hosting more swaps.

kayleena 03/ 3/2010 #

so again just to clarify, cuz I am only a little confused now lol, once we get the fbs in the swap we can send them on to people we know from swap bot or whatever so they can be filled in some more? Then the very last person to fill a page sends it back to the person that made it?

DragonWatcher 03/ 5/2010 #

Sounds fun :) Have done FB's years ago but I want to get into them again :)

DawnI5579 03/ 6/2010 #

Can someone send me a pic of a fb? Im new to this site as well as fb's. If you could send a pic of the cover and of the inside that would be great! I just want to make sure i am grasping this before i sign up. Thanks!!

Morgaine 03/ 9/2010 #

@kayleena yes, what you said is right, you've got it ;-)

@Dawnl5579 Sorry I don't have a picture, I am new myself and these will be the first I make. Hope someone else will send you a picture. Otherwise I'll be sure to take some pictures to include in the next one I do.
