Description:

This is a fun project and I hope you will think so too. Take a piece of cardstock (any color, roughly 5" x 7") and randomly adhere all sorts of different papers to it, overlapping the edges as you go (your papers can be decorative, printed with words, plain, sparkly, etc.). The idea here is not to worry about planning – just have fun with random papers. After you have completed this step, turn the cardstock over so you can't see the covered side. Draw a heart on it, roughly 3" high (see note below). Cut out the heart. Now, turn it over and see how pretty it looks with the collaged papers you chose. It's kind of like a surprise – you never know what you're going to get. Now, take this pretty heart and use it to make a card for your partner; not for them to send, but for them to receive and enjoy. You could even make it into a Valentine card; the choice is up to you. Please write a short (or long) message inside.

A few ideas are to attach your heart to another layer and cut that out in a heart shape too, and then adhere it to the front of a blank card. You could cut tiny slits all around the heart and wrap gold thread across it to give it some further pizzazz. I'm sure you will think of other ways too. Have fun and be creative. NOTE: You could even choose to cut out two smaller hearts and use those on the card.

You will be sending 1 card to 1 partner. It is sender's choice on the papers they use to make the heart and card.

Fun, Fun! I did my random collage and got enough hearts to make several cards and an ATC. I was worried that I didn't pick "good enough" pieces of paper, but when I flipped my hearts over after cutting them on the back side, I was thrilled with the results! I hope you all have as much fun as I did making your collaged hearts.

Neat idea Beth! I made my big heart and had room to cut several small hearts too:)

WOW...my heart looks great, too! I tried to use a nice focal point in the center and it looks super (if I do say so, myself!)....question: Can the heart be bigger than 3"? I cut mine larger in case I goofed I could cut it down (think trimming bangs) and I really like it this size. Is that ok? Will I be downgraded for leaving it larger?

I think we should do this on a regular basis for different holidays of themes....we could collage green papers in the shape of a four-leaf clover. We could also do something with an Olympic theme!

(btw, i'm decoupaging to get the edges to stay down. just an idea if anyone else has this problem).

I just got my sheet collaged. the edges are pulling up a bit. i tore the edges of my papers. i love the sheet itselt so much, i think i'm going to take it to a copy shop and have it color copied before cutting out the hearts from the original. then i'm going to stamp random images on the copies, and recopy, and use it as masterboard (something i saw in a somerset magazine) for other projects. i think we should do a masterboards swap in the future, so we all get some unique papers!
