Swap Coordinator:GoingTwinsane (contact)
Swap categories: Food
Number of people in swap:14

Type:Type 2: Flat mail
Last day to signup/drop:January 9, 2010

Number of swap partners:2
Description:

I love old recipes! The older-the better! Recipes from way back when women took pride in their culinary skills and everything was made with love no matter how long it took...and everything was made from scratch-no shortcuts here and there.

For this swap you will have 2 partners. You will send by snail mail 2 recipes preferably handwritten on 4x6 cards (If you have hand issues, such as arthritis or neuropathy, go ahead an type them if that is easier). The recipes should be at least 50 years old or older. It can be a tried & true family recipe that's been passed down for generations or a recipe you stumbled across in a rummage sale or even a recipe from an old cookbook.

If possible, put a date to the recipe. If you take it out of a cookbook, put the copyright date on there along with the name of the book (or include that info in a note if you wish).

Open to newbies with well filled profile. No 1's. I will angel if necessary but will carefully screen all participants before assigning partners.

Since this is not profile based, you can get started writing out your recipes now!

I don't have neither the time or money to be part of this swap this month but if someone is interested and not in a hurry, I could translate a few recipes from a book published the first time by 1890. The woman who selected the recipes is an interesting character on my country's history and that's why the book is still published. If you read Spanish you can get it here: http://www.biblioteca.clarin.com/pbda/miscelanea/cocinaeclectica/cocina00indice.htm

I'm a newbie but I'd love to join!

I have an Heirloom cookbook that is not too old, but the recipes in there are very old. I hope it's okay if I take my recipes from there.

That would be fine @linbur0100

after reading over this swap...I rummaged through my recipe box and find that I have a LOT of old recipes from my Grandmother. I will be most definitely signing up for this swap, but if my partner that I send to would like specific ones, let me know...because I'll be listing them out on here shortly.

Pumpkin Pie Cake Mahogany Chiffon Cake Bread Pudding Lemon Sauce for Bread Pudding Angel Food Cake Apple Cobbler Quick Tapioca Pudding Brown Sugar Pie Sugar cookies Old Fashioned Sugar Pie Walddry Astoria Red Cake (in my family it's known as Red Velvet Cake) Homemade Ice Cream Cornmeal Cheddar Biscuits Carmels Cheese Ball Turkey Pot Pie Peanut Brittle Carrot Cake Fluffy-Seven Minute Frosting Turtle Cake Oatmeal Cake Coffee Crumb Cake Strawberry Preserves Green Tomato Relish Vinegar Pie (I even cringe at the title of this recipe...and I love vinegar soaked cucumbers and onions) Homemade Noodles Long John Sweet Rolls Delicious Snack (oyster cracker snack...is really good by themselves or in soups!!) Meat in cabbage rolls

and yes, all of the recipes I just listed are atleast 50 years old, and were passed down to my mom and her parents/mother in law from my Great grandparents!
