Description:

In this swap you will make one hand carved stamp for your partner that is at least 1 inch x 1 inch in size (or 3/4 inch x 1.5 inch, in case you're using the staedtler erasers). This swap is sender's choice so you cannot rate down if you're not completely in love with the design you get.

Senders are more than welcome to make a stamp based on their partner's profile, if they'd like, but it's not required ... You may test your carved stamp by stamping it with some ink to see how it looks but (if you can) try using light/white or non-permanent stamp ink.

And when you mail your stamp out, you will need to make sure you have it padded well enough so that it doesn't break during the mailing. Writing "fragile" or "do not bend" on your package is suggested. Do not just mail these out in paper envelopes as it might not survive the entire shipment.

Ratings requirements:

  • Must have at least a 4.9 with NO 1's or unexplained 3's in the past 6 months.
  • Must have completed at least 7 package/type 3 swaps and must be rated for them.

  • You cannot have a bunch of recent late send ratings.

  • This swap is not for swap-bot newbies but it IS available to hand-carved stamp newbies with the understanding that you will try your VERY best in making a stamp for your partner.

Forgot to mention that when mailing your stamp out, you should make sure to pad it/protect it well so it doesn't break during the mailing.

I love this concept and would like to try my hand at carving a stamp. I wonder if using a wood burner would work? Watching...

LadyStephanie -- Wood burner + rubber eraser-like material doesn't sound like a good combination! Carving tools/knives are best in this case. :)

Just curious why pink eraser isn't good? Is it just the size? I've made several nicely detailed stamps from them.

Has anyone ever used the Sculpey Eraser Clay for making a stamp? It seems like it might work. Just curious if anyone has any experience with it.

twobluecrows, In my experience, pink erasers crumble sometimes and are harder to carve than white erasers.

It's not that they aren't good to use as a stamp base, I'm just opting for stamps made from softer to carve materials or material meant specifically for stamp-making.

Dang it, I love handmade stamps but I've never done one before!!! Even with the tutorials I'm wondering if I could manage to make a good one. I think I'll try to make one before joining a swap based on one. Thanks for the links!

I'd like to get a stamp with my name on it, as it's hard to get personalized stuff, though my name is pretty common (at least for people my age, it's not THAT popular anymore nowadays)

lavenderlulu, Please keep in mind that while you may ask to receive a personalized stamp, this swap is senders choice, so your partner isn't required to send you one. =x

And some clarification: When I mention not using pink erasers, I'm not referring to the pink carving blocks Speedball makes (SPEEDBALL Speedy Stamp Blocks) - These are okay to use for this swap. :)
