Description:

I participated in the mega swap, the whole lotta atcs and the monochromatic ATCs swap. I now have a huge collection of ATCs! Some are amazing works of themes I'm not attracted to.

This is a swap of ATCs that you already have in your collection and would like to trade for something more to your interests.

Start out with at least 5 ATCs from your collection to swap with your partner - YOU DO NOT HAVE TO MAKE ANY ATCS for this swap.

You can add and take as many as you want but it must be a minimum of 5 ATCs remaining.

I'm allowing the entire summer for these ATCs to move around. If you get 5 and don't like any, just pass them onto the next partner on your list. Easy. If you take 5 then you must replace them with 5. (You can always add more than the required minimal amount is 5.)

Newbies will be considered. Those with 'no sends' in their rating can email me to discuss. Sorry, but there are some scammers in this community that has made me wary of open swaps.

Can you explain this to me more clearly!

deedeenet 06/ 5/2007 #

AlwaysJoy,

If you have acquired a large collection of ATCs that you have received in other swaps, you can swap those that you are not attracted to in this swap.

You gather up at least 10 ATCs from your collection and send them to one of your partners. While you have 10 partners, you'll have 2 months to fulfill your swap requirements. Meanwhile, you will be receiving 10 ATCs from each of your partners so you'll be able to pick and choose from that before you send onto another partner.

I hope this helps.

Noell 06/ 5/2007 #

We won't get our partners until August 1st, and We have to send them to all 10 of our partners by September 12th? That's not 2 months. That's only 1 month and 12 days. The way the mail system works, you gotta figure at least 7 days for each person ... it'll take 3 or 4 days to travel through the mail, and then take into consideration Sundays when mail can't be sent off, and giving people 1 day to look through the ATCs and mail them the same day, or the very next day. So 7 days = 1 week per person. If you have 10 people, that equals 10 weeks, which is 2.5 months. So it'll take 2.5 months before the ATCs get to everybody.

Swap-bot isn't really set up to host these round-robin type swaps. I suggest using a site like www.nervousness.org You'll get better results that way. :-)

Noell 06/ 5/2007 #

PS: I would participate, however, holding sign-ups until August 1st, and only allowing people to have 1 month and 12 days to get things moving to everyone is just not enough time. I would join if the sign-ups ended on June 15th or something, and then we would have until September 12th to mail to everyone. I've participated in MANY of these round-robin ATC collection swapping things and they are fun, but you have to allow time, and you need to allow 1 week per person who signs up, to get the round-robin back to the original person OR to get the ATCs passed around to all 10 partners, and as I said, Swap-Bot isn't set up for that. Good luck with this! It's a great idea, it's just not set up correctly. :-)

Thanks Alohaswapper, I've changed the signup date to July 1. An oversight on my part.

Noell 06/ 6/2007 #

No problem.

Hey Guys,

Stuff from the mega swap, the monochromatic and the whole lotta atcs are still rolling in! I have a bag full of interesting ATCs that I'd like to share with someone. I find that I'm moving away from scrapbook style ATCs (that's all I used to know how to do) and I fancy more collage stuff. If I get any hand drawn or painted ATCs I feel really luck. Recently, I've begun getting digi prints and those are neat too. I just wish that they were mounted on card stock.

How many do you have to send along?

user5409 06/10/2007 #

I wonder how many of my ATC's will eventually come my way. Wouldn't that be funny. Bet it happens. This should be great though. Thanks for thinking of it and coordinating it Deborah

deedeenet 06/10/2007 #

You are welcomed CattyCat,

I try to be careful with that, I'd hate to offend someone. My interest changes with ATCs. One month I was into collage, another month digital... I don't like creepy ones at all, I'm not into horror so scary anything I don't care for.

user5409 06/17/2007 #

Let me get this straight in my head. Once we get our 10 partners we send the first one 10 ATCs we don't want in our collection. Then when we get 10 from someone else, we look them over, pick out what we want in our collection, replace those with cards we don't want in our collection and send that 10 to the 2nd partner we were assigned. Then we get another 10 from some one else and we do this again. Ultimately we do it 10 times???? Is this right?

deedeenet 06/19/2007 #

Yes, that was the idea CattyCat which is why I have allowed so much time. The swap also assumes that you already have a lot of ATCs you'd like to swap out.

We need a few more players to make this work, I may decrease the number of partners because we seem to be holding at 10 players.

user6923 06/20/2007 #

Well, I just have to say that I have swapped with at least half of the people signed up for this swap and I assure you...none of you will be seeing your ATC's again from me. I have loved your work and feel fortunate when I get your art in a swap.

deedeenet 06/24/2007 #

Hi All,

We are almost at the deadline for signups and since we only have 11 people, I think that I'm going to reduce the number of ATCs to 5 (you can send as many as you want but 5 would be the minimum) and reduce the number of partners to 4.

Anyone have any comments?

user5409 06/24/2007 #

Deborah, I think that sounds very sensible. I also think it would be really vital for everyone to get started with this right away, even with just 4 partners. i.e. no procrastinating to the last minute. It won't work if people put off doing any of the steps. Hopefully we are all "snappy" swappers and will receive, sort, decide, pack up and mail out each time in a couple days, not a couple weeks. Just my thoughts.

deedeenet 06/24/2007 #

Thanks Cattycat, great idea.

user7595 06/25/2007 #

I think 5 ATCs to 4 partners is a great idea. We should still get a good variety of cards and a chance to edit our collections to better fit our own tastes. Great idea!

LINBUR0100 06/26/2007 #

I'll sign up if you change it to 4 partners and 5 ATCs.

Thanks for a good idea.

deedeenet 06/26/2007 #

Ok, I'll change it to 4 partners, 5 ATCs.

It would also be a good idea to list what types of ATCs you are NOT interested in. Hopefully, your partner will oblige by not sending you more of the same ATCs you are trying to purge from your collection.

user5409 06/26/2007 #

I'm not into scrapbook looking ATCs. I am not into cutsy tootsy pink. Look at my profile it goes into likes and dislikes pretty much.

alleycat 06/28/2007 #

Ok, at 4 partners, 5 atc's it seems doable for me as well. I don't want the scrapbooky ones either, although I appreciate the work and thought that goes into them, I am attracted to more artsy atc's. I'm not into cutesy -tootsie either! I hope everyone will check profiles, send along quality cards that are simply not a fit for your own personal taste, not just the lamest things you've ever gotten.

user4831 07/ 1/2007 #

I love stamping, artsy, collage. Not into cutesy, bears or stickers. As I don't scrapbook not quite sure what scrapbooky beens ? Can somebody enlighten me??? This will be the very FIRST time I will ever have let and ATC go that was sent to me and I do kinda feel bad, but we all know don't we that it definately does NOT mean they are not good.

deedeenet 07/ 1/2007 #

CazR, thank you so much for reemphasizing that the ATCs we swap are not bad ATCs. I have many that are really nice but are just not my taste anymore. When I started doing ATCs I could only envision scrapbook style ATCs. Then I discovered collage and then painted and sketched and...

My technique and tastes evolve and change and I go through phases. Should I get back one of my own, I would enjoy that as well because many of the ATCs I've made were one of a kind and I'd like to see how I've changed.

Anke 07/ 1/2007 #

Just curious: What IS the difference between "scrapbooky" and "collage"?

deedeenet 07/ 1/2007 #

Anke, first just about everything is subjective so I'll try to explain my view. Scrapbooky style would involve some cardstock, a sticker or stamped impression.

Collage, to me, involves more textures and images than just a printed card stock with some embellishments or a stamp. There is nothing wrong with that, I still do it and enjoy receiving different ones. But a formula has been established in the scrapebook world and many times it all can look the same.

Collage art has also developed a formula - wings on everything, a crow, a crown... I still like this stuff though but it has become pretty predictable.

I don't think any of us are trying to be judgemental. We are all struggling to express what we are currently in to. I tried to categorize my ATCs at my flickr site and it was really difficult. Some overlapped into different categories while others, like fused paper ATCs don't have a category I can come up with. Go by and take a look if you like. See if you can guess which ones were my very first attempts at ATC. I think those are really sad!

Please no religious, nudes or cutesy. I like real things with wings, nature, flowers. Thanks, Janet
