Description:

Here it is -the first! Get a shirt, button front! Rob your husband's closet. Chances are it won't be missed if he's like mine. Go to a yard sale or thrift store if you can't find one bigger than a medium. You will need a bigger one even if it's just for tie length. Now you will make an apron from it. Whatever kind your heart desires. You should have it done before partners are assigned. Really don't worry about profiles, because you could look all day just to find one. You might anyway. DO NOT throw any pieces away as you'll need them later! Google this! Sewing Green. I bought the book and there's the pattern free to print. I feel so silly! Let's add pants because there are some really interesting ones for aprons. I googled "recycle pants apron pattern".

Some aprons have ruffles. This is strictly sender's choice as this is a kitchen apron.

Um can i make one from pants? that's how I usually do it?

knitmom7 08/ 6/2009 #

Can you wait for the pants one? Give me 3 days!

RyeRye 08/ 7/2009 #

google the words 'sewing green' right?

knitmom7 08/ 7/2009 #

Yes. You may not get all of the pattern but enough to figure out that they use the collar for a waistband.

I think we'll add pants because I just thought of something else to do!!

MommyKnows 08/ 9/2009 #

Ok... got the shirt ... made the apron... but did NOT use the pattern from "Sewing Green". Is that a requirement?

knitmom7 08/ 9/2009 #

Nope! The only requirement is recycle. I hope I get to see that apron!! And I hope you join us!

Deluxx 08/11/2009 #

I might join if y'all are beginner-friendly... I am only just learning to sew. Crooked seams are pretty much a given.

knitmom7 08/12/2009 #

Everyone started someplace! and This is really a fun project! Come on in!

MommyKnows 08/12/2009 #

beginners crooked seams? .. I've been sewing for as long as I can remember and my seams get crooked.... I'm by no means a seamstress, nor perfect.

If you're using the sew green pattern I would cut the ties from the shirt back or just try using the front bands. I really hate to say this but the sleeves as ties are not working for me.LOL>.

What a great idea, I´m definitely in :) I´ve sewn a lot of aprons from old jeans too.
