I love Halloween, but since I don't have children, and my nieces and nephews aren't "allowed" to celebrate it, :( I don't have much use for the small toys, party favors, pencils, etc. that often go into Halloween-themed swaps. I thought other swappers might be in the same boat, so I decided to create a swap for those who would like to send and receive packages of fun, artsy, GROWN-UP tricks and treats! (And by "grown-up", I don't mean "adult!" cough blush) These treats should be sort of Halloween/fall/spooky-themed, but with a sophisticated take. I'm thinking along the lines of: -edible: roasted pumpkin seeds, "fancy" candy (truffles, artisan chocolates, that kind of thing), packets of cider mix, etc. -sensory: candles or incense, soaps, lotions, etc. with "fall" scents or inclusions (pumpkin, cider, apple, spice...) Check profiles for allergies/aversions!) -readable: a small book of Edgar Allan Poe's work, or other "haunting" poetry, or maybe a mystery or gothic novel? -crafty: anything handmade-- jewelry, ornaments, mini-shrines, etc., with a fall/Halloween theme, or appropriate for this time of year (knitted socks, scarves, etc... depending on where your partner lives, of course!) These are just a few ideas, I'm sure you can come up with tons of your own! Dia de los Muertos/Day of the Dead items might also be cool, IF your partner expresses such a liking in their profile. Let's aim for around $10 total, and include at LEAST two items, going for quality over quantity... for example, two items that cost $5 each, or three items that cost $3-something each, rather than ten things from the dollar store. (Not that I have anything against the dollar store, and not that you CAN'T get your items there... just, you know... send things you'd love to receive!) Package the items nicely, maybe in a handmade bag, wine bag, or something along those lines... leave the paper/cellophane bags for the kids! :) At the very least, doodle a few falling leaves or something on the box. Oh, and a little note or card to your partner is always nice. :) The nitty gritty: must have at least ten package/craft swaps under your belt BEFORE signing up! The sign-up deadline is over a month away, that gives you plenty of time to rack up those fives! No unexplained ones or threes. I will ban anyone who seems flaky, fishy, or doesn't seem like they "get" what this swap is about. US/Canada only on this one, sorry, but feel free to start an int'l version. Who's trick-or-treating with me?? :) |
