Description:

I love Halloween, but since I don't have children, and my nieces and nephews aren't "allowed" to celebrate it, :( I don't have much use for the small toys, party favors, pencils, etc. that often go into Halloween-themed swaps. I thought other swappers might be in the same boat, so I decided to create a swap for those who would like to send and receive packages of fun, artsy, GROWN-UP tricks and treats! (And by "grown-up", I don't mean "adult!" cough blush) These treats should be sort of Halloween/fall/spooky-themed, but with a sophisticated take. I'm thinking along the lines of:

-edible: roasted pumpkin seeds, "fancy" candy (truffles, artisan chocolates, that kind of thing), packets of cider mix, etc.

-sensory: candles or incense, soaps, lotions, etc. with "fall" scents or inclusions (pumpkin, cider, apple, spice...) Check profiles for allergies/aversions!)

-readable: a small book of Edgar Allan Poe's work, or other "haunting" poetry, or maybe a mystery or gothic novel?

-crafty: anything handmade-- jewelry, ornaments, mini-shrines, etc., with a fall/Halloween theme, or appropriate for this time of year (knitted socks, scarves, etc... depending on where your partner lives, of course!)

These are just a few ideas, I'm sure you can come up with tons of your own! Dia de los Muertos/Day of the Dead items might also be cool, IF your partner expresses such a liking in their profile.

Let's aim for around $10 total, and include at LEAST two items, going for quality over quantity... for example, two items that cost $5 each, or three items that cost $3-something each, rather than ten things from the dollar store. (Not that I have anything against the dollar store, and not that you CAN'T get your items there... just, you know... send things you'd love to receive!)

Package the items nicely, maybe in a handmade bag, wine bag, or something along those lines... leave the paper/cellophane bags for the kids! :) At the very least, doodle a few falling leaves or something on the box. Oh, and a little note or card to your partner is always nice. :)

The nitty gritty: must have at least ten package/craft swaps under your belt BEFORE signing up! The sign-up deadline is over a month away, that gives you plenty of time to rack up those fives! No unexplained ones or threes. I will ban anyone who seems flaky, fishy, or doesn't seem like they "get" what this swap is about. US/Canada only on this one, sorry, but feel free to start an int'l version.

Who's trick-or-treating with me?? :)

I am watching this till I see what swaps and $ I have. I have been doing book swapping lately and that is taking a bit of my time and a bit of money. But it is cheaper than some swaps here. I get a book not ewww what was that.... in a package... hee hee... This sounds fun I may join.

I think this sounds like a lot of fun! I just ask that my partner respect the fact that I'd prefer more autumn/fall related things than scary garish Halloween things!

i agree with steffany! autumn is my favorite time. but i as for "halloween" themed items i prefer zombies, leaves, pumpkins, or even autumn themed fabrics, or colors brown/mustard yellow/red/orange

I really love fall scented items (minus incense as I am allergic) long as they aren't too strong. I really love Halloween ornaments and good quality candy. I honestly will be happy with whatever nice things you find for me. Those are just my favs off the list <3

I like scary decorations! I like vintage-looking scary things, glitter, paper mache things, crepe paper, cobwebs, spooky Martha-Stewart is my style! I like pumpkins and gourds, black cats, bats, owls, and candy corn imagery. (I don't really like ghosts or witches.) I love Twizzlers, snickers bars, tootsie rolls, mary janes, peanut butter cups, my favorite to find in the pumpkin-shaped bucket! Candles smells- I like food smells like apple pie, sugar cookies or cinnamon rolls. Our house is mid-century modern (large floor to ceiling windows, flat roof, open plan) and we decorate with clean lines and 50's furniture. But for holidays I let the strict decorating go by the weighside so I put a little bit of anything out! I like vintage and vintage-looking items but will also put fun touches like fangs and eyes on the toilet or black glittery candelabras that complete clash with the rest of our house. :)

Partners are assigned! Have fun! :)

My own preferences-- Imagery-wise, I'm not a huge fan of witches, or anything with blood coming out of it, but love just about anything else-- skeletons, spiders, pumpkins/jack o'lanterns, etc. I think eyeballs are hilarious, for some reason. Dia de los muertos stuff, or retro anything would be great! Love any candy or munchies EXCEPT gummies/gels.

So excited about this - thought I'd throw in my faves as well! I'm not had to please, so I'm sure I'd love anything that my partner sends.

I love all things fall, leaves, pumpkins, indian corn, acorns, colors like red and orange. My halloween style is pretty mild - not into blood or gore. We do have some jack-o-lantern decorations, some cute spiders, things like that. We usally have lots of candles burning so I go through them pretty quickly and would love those! Candy is also super - but not a huge fan of caramel. Happy Halloween all!
