Description:

In a recent Nuts for Sewing thread, @Ellama1 alerted us to The Toy Society. The idea of The Toy Society is to hand make a toy; most of them are sewn or knitted and then stuffed. You package the toy according to the site rules and then secretly drop off the toy in a public place for someone to find and keep. What a wonderful way to bring a little joy and surprise to someone's day!

Let's give it a try! If you've never made a stuffie before, don't be shy! The idea is not perfection but rather a sweet surprise to brighten someone's day. Links to some tutorials are at the end of the swap description. Give it a try!

We will:

  • have one partner.

  • sign up on The Toy Society web page (quick & painless)

  • make one toy/stuffie and drop it according to the web site's rules

  • take pictures of your handmade toy (close up and at the drop), either email or snail mail them to your partner

  • write a letter to your partner telling about what you made and where you dropped it off (this must be mailed)

  • The Toy Society asks that you email pictures of your toy and the toy drop OR that you send them a link to the photos in your flickr. They will post your photos and drop details on their site. I will create a Nuts for Sewing thread for you to post the link to your drop on the Toy Society site so everyone in the group can see your handiwork!

  • Sending on time and rating your partner are expected.

  • Have a great time, and thank you for sharing a little bit of joy by participating in this swap!

Got my softie done - just waiting for partners to be assigned! Now I have to figure out where to drop it....

i'm dropping this swap for now, sorry! I've been trying to make stuffies and I'm just not comfortable enough with it to feel like I should participate in this swap. Maybe next time!

Does it matter how we make the stuffie? Can it be crocheted?

SweetClementine 08/ 3/2009 #

I think a crocheted stuffie would be wonderful. Please give it a try! :-)

Can we drop our stuffie before the swap begins? Saturday we have a big event in our town and I am sure it would find a home quickly if I dropped it somewhere that day.

I've got too much going on before the swap deadline to guarantee I'd get this all done on time. I hope you host it again!

SweetClementine 08/ 5/2009 #

Yes, Boupie! Feel free to make your stuffie now and drop it any time between the day you sign up and the swap date of September 1.

This swap doesn't require any profile personalization, so go for it whenever it's most convenient for you! Just be sure to take pictures to share later.

Mine was Drop #633. I'm already thinking about a better location for my second drop. ;-)
