Description:

This swap is for handmade handbags. There are a lot of patterns out there for these types of bags. I like the morsbags pattern and I tweak that to my tastes.

You can use whatever pattern you like, but if you do use the morsbags pattern, you should also sew on the morsbags.com logo. Make sure your bag is sturdy enough to hold large amounts of weight and to do that over and over again--This is why I like the morsbags pattern.

You will have one partner and you will send them one handmade grocery bag. It's okay if right now you don't use handmade grocery bags, but by using just one, you're eliminating possibly 100's of plastic bags being used.

Make sure you put some effort into the bag you make. You can use fabric/thread that you think your partner will like (from their profile info). It is senders choice for fabric. You can use repurposed fabrics (sheets, shirts, etc) but make sure it is not stained/dirty. When you sew the bag, make clean edges and put EFFORT in!!

Newbies welcome, as long as you have a VERY well filled out profile.

No no-sends EVER and no 1s allowed. No 3s in the last 4 months. If you have what you feel is an unfair rating, PM me to talk about it. You also need to have been signed into Swap-Bot two days before the swap sign up date. I will check profiles before I assign partners.

I have the right to ban anyone who seems fishy. I will angel this swap, but please do not sign up if you do not have the intention of sending. That's just rude!

If you have any questions, comment below or PM me.

love these swaps! I'm watching for now, but I'll for sure be in on this one!

Go Green! Of course I love a swap that will eliminate the need for more plastic bags. In keeping with the recycle, reuse, repurpose frame of mind... are we to use repurposed materials from say bedsheets, pillow cases, curtains, etc.?... or is this for only new fabric?

Love2Teach 06/16/2009 #

Repurposed fabric is a-okay. I think I am going to use an old pillow case for this one! New fabric is okay too. If you're like me, you have a lot of fabric already in your stash. There should be no reason to buy new fabric for this swap, but it's allowed if you want to.

I don't like the idea to receive a bag made of used bedsheets of other people. Can mine be made of new fabric? I really hope so, else I will drop from this swap. I have lots of left over fabrics that are still brandnew.

Love the handmade bag swaps and love any kind of fabric. If it is repurposed that means it stays out of the landfill. I use vintage sheets for lots of things and I wash them several times and soak them and dry them outside in the sunshine so they are clean and smell good. But, I will honor the wishes of my swap partner and use fabric from my stash if that is the case. I really need to use some of my fabric stash, that gives me an excuse to find more killer fabric!!!! Looking forward to a fun swap.

i'm watching until it gets closer and I finish some swaps! Love these!!

Velthemia--it's senders choice on what they'd make the bag from. Using bed sheets doesn't bother me at all and I can't imagine why it would bother you. You can find awesome patterened sheets in so many different thrift shops, and like annabel says, we wash them several times and make sure they're not stained and look pretty.

Does it have to be a fabric bag? I make a pretty sweet knitted market bag. I'll decorate it too...
