Character Development Resource Swap

Your characters can make or break your novel. A well-developed, believable character gives your readers someone to relate to, while those who are the opposite might cause your story to struggle.

For this swap, we will each send our partners some materials to assist with character development. These materials can help us while we're doing some advanced planning, or might just offer a bit of help along the way.

Suggestions for items to include might be:

• Character development surveys (designed by you or from other sources--please include proper credit)

• Writing prompts that encourage character development

• Lists of potential character traits/names/etc.

• Lists of helpful web sites

• Character development exercises

• Anything you think would assist your partners in creating fleshed-out characters

You will have two partners to send the materials to. You can send the same materials to both partners or not. Please include at least two different exercises/prompt sheets/materials (i.e. one list of prompts and a book about character personality traits, or a list of web sites and a character development survey) so your partners have plenty to work with when they start their character building. It is highly recommended that the items are typed (if appropriate) so your partners can use them easily and make copies if necessary.

It is certainly acceptable to include other items (books that might inspire them, journals that are designed especially for this purpose, examples, etc.) as long as they are specifically for character development purposes.

All group members are welcome (and encouraged!) to join. This gives us a chance to get some NaNo ideas brewing before November arrives.
