Are you a fan of Earth Day? Did you know that Jewish culture has a special birthday for trees, and there are rules about making sure trees are "old enough" before taking fruit from them? Yep, turns out, people's ancestors knew a lot about growing food. There's even rules about making sure people could harvest from the edges of your land if they couldn't afford food.

Tu B'shvat is a tree's birthday! This year, the day is Jan 24th-25th.

If you're wondering why sending flat mail over paperless e-mail, e-mail servers also require electricity and water to run. <3

Appreciate the paper that trees give us. An upcycled or recycled notecard and/or envelope is a great bonus here.

What is your favourite tree? If you don't have a favourite, maybe look some up and see what you like about them. Does one have pretty flowers, like cherrywood, or orange trees? Do you like the bark patterns of conifers?

Draw, paint, or collage a sketch of your favourite tree (or a part of it, like a flowering branch) that fits in a notecard. 3.5x2.5" is the smallest required. It doesn't have to "look professional"! We're just regular people!

On the back, let us know what kind of tree it is, and make sure to sign your art.

In the notecard, let us know what you like about that plant.

Most of us can't just plant a tree, but I have some potted plants. How about you? Do you do anything else, like donate $10/year to butterfly conservation, or take compost to a community garden? Talk about it in your notecard! MAKE SURE YOU PUT YOUR SB NAME AND SWAP NAME IN IT.
